Had an awesome first experience selling. Brought about 12 older-ish DVDs in and they took about 5 or 6 I believe. I didn't expect them to take the ones they took. This is THE place for retro gaming. Reasonably priced games. Of course, the more popular titles cost a bit more. They got games, vinyl, dvds, blu-rays, cassettes, etc. A place for nostalgia. I took off two stars because I returned a game that wasn't working on my console. No problem --- they gave me a refund. Which is great. However, I found the same cartridge a week later back on the shelf lol. To me, it looks like they're trying to get another sucker to buy it, which is not cool. I don't like that. Came here solely for vinyl, the selection was tiny....but organized alphabetically. They had a mix of old classics and new vinyl, I noticed a lot more new hip stuff though. What's super awesome is that I found The Dresden Dolls 2014 RSD colored vinyl for 15 bucks!! This was REDUCED! I've been searching all record stores in my area (in LA) and never find it...saw on eBay people were selling it for $70 or more. I don't know what this fantastic piece was doing being neglected, but I'm more than happy to give it a good home :) it's like stumbling upon buried treasure, so this place was totally worth checking out in my book! read more

Wow, this place is a gem! Most people go here for DVDs or video games, and their selection was great. I bought two DVDs for under $10. There were a lot more that I didn't have time to look at otherwise I would've probably bought lots more. But, what I don't think people talk about a lot was their record collection. I love Reckless Records, but I have been disappointed by their selection recently. The Exchange didn't let me down. There was a good mix of classics and new, as well as vinyl from the past few years. There were so many albums that I wanted, but my big purchase was a $6 Ryan Adam's 1984 7 inch album. Next time I'm in Chicago, I'm coming back to the Exchange. read more

I'm a big fan of used CD shops and I came across this place a few months back. I'm into metal music and they have a really NICE metal section. Only problem is everything is really overpriced, including video game and their DVD selection. Still, I've picked up couple albums there and I will continue to go there since people are dropping off quality metal albums every now and then, lol. read more

The store is definitely a candy land for gamers. From the newest release to older nostalgic games like games on the NES or Atari 2600, the collection was nothing short of impressive. Paul, the staff there was quite willing to accommodate us in finding the cult classic Katamari Damacy, and in addition, pulled out a PS2 from their display case to check if the CD still works. The other staff members were also responsive and hilarious and gave great recommendations. Would definitely come back largely due to the staff and collection. read more

Went here twice spent $100 on PS2 games each time I was shopping for myself happy experience. A bit daunting have a person stand next to you while you make your stack tho. Also I was told they only sell used games with books and cases-80% of the time it's true. Went there a 3rd time to buy my little brother $100 of PSP games. There was a guy behind the counter very smug couldn't give me a quote on what he would give me for a N64 game (I have 4 of-I laughed when seeing there price) yet he selling it for 60$ used... He couldn't even ballpark the price you would give?!? 1/2 of $60, 1/3 of $60, a dollar??? I bought them for $10 at play&trade... Then my brother wanted a game that had no case I ask if they could cut $2-3 bucks off (how would I store it/know it that game without it's case???), I was going to tell my bro he could get a few more the stack was about $75 at the time I still wanting to grab more to add up to my $100 bill in my pocket-and the man behind the counter said smugly "no price is the price". I push the games towards them said no thanks, good bye. You can get RETO GAMES CHEAPER used or new on EBAY with cases & books. Without cases even CHEAPER then air. (They even have custom aftermarket plastic cases to protect any old cartridge games for $8, laser printed logo looking as official as a PS4 cases) I only went here to support local businesses and get the game the same day. But paying a meter or taking a CTA is not worth there shotty customer service, over priced goods, & the fact there no real reason to go here. Save your time & money eBay from the comfort of you couch for less money & no stress. Seriously who goes here buying $100 worth of old games? If each person does then more power to these snobs. I really love this place. As a huge movie buff, I could literally spend hours here just browsing their selection. This place has an awesome selection- Everything from mainstream Hollywood hits to hard to find gems. What is really cool is that most titles have multiple copies (some even with 5-6 of the same title). This is awesome because it ensures that you can find a copy of the movie you want AND the prices will generally be lower due to the availability of the title. They also have a great selection of video games, gaming consoles, action figures (yeah, it's happening!), and other great items. Oftentimes they have very new releases already for sale. I saw Identity Thief there last weekend and it had just came out a week or two ago. A great way to get new releases at a much lower price than the big box stores and even Amazon. I have never sold any items here, so I can't comment on that aspect of the store. Though I can imagine they are pretty fair considering the excellent way they run their store. They sold me a used playstation 3 without a remote in the box (as advertised) that did not work with an hdmi cord. I brought it back, and they told me that the console did in fact work and that it's my fault there is no controller in the box. Finally, they NEVER accept returns for game consoles that are functioning. I pointed to their return policy, posted prominently near the cash register, which states "Returns require a receipt" and that "There may be a restocking fee." I asked how there could ever be a restocking fee or the need for a receipt if they never accept returns. He said it doesn't matter what the sign says, no returns is store policy. I left the equipment there, despite his protests. They can fight this one with Chase bank; the charge is already off of my credit card, so no sweat off my back. But I wonder: how many of their customers return once they've been treated this way? read more

Sure they have a lot of options when it comes to games, dvds and music. However, don't expect to get much money back for turning in your merchandise. I turned in 2 Blu Ray DVDs and 3 Playstation 3 games and only got $20 in store credit. I also had to wait 30 minutes for said transaction (the time before I attempted to sell my items they quoted me a hour wait). So if you don't mind waiting around for 30-60 minutes to have them rip you off, then you will love this store... read more

the store have quite some nice used stuff that you can get for cheap, but this is my experience i went there and bought a console and games for a total of $326 when i went home i noticed some of the games were in bad cheap and i just decided to return them just couple of hours later in the same day. the lady JB wasn't friendly as she was when i came to buy, she wasn't nice to me at all and didn't wanna give me my money back, but instead she proposed me to buy back the merchandise from me and she proposed me $15 for games i have bought just few hours earlier $50 and ended up by giving me a store credit of value of $30, she didn't wanna take two games because they did not have a price tag because the never put it in those items. so i end up with a $30 store credit that i will never use it because i'm just a tourist, i will not advice this place for people if you want cheap stuff go on craigslist or eBay this place wont appreciate your business and all the want is money not costumer satisfaction i would have spent more money if they were nice to me and give me money back but no, money is more important for them you definitely need to check items before taking them Most CD/DVD are scratched they tell they give you warranty but they will find the way to come up with stories very bad costumer service, no appreciation read more

This is my favorite place to DVDs and VHS tapes. Yes VHS Tapes! (I still own a VCR built into my TV) They have a huge choice of $1 DVDs and tapes in the back. Their regular priced DVDs are always cheaper than everywhere else. Everyone who works there is nice and helpful. They also sell CDs, electronics and video games but I come for the movies. I have also sold my Playstation 2 to them and the process was easy. I have also sold them DVDs and they give a good amount of money for your used DVDs. read more

Been here plenty of times and always finds something that sparks my interests. Everything is very well and clearly organized. And the prices are usually better than GameStop. The only issue I have is there isn't easy parking and sometimes I have left because I can't park. :/ I'll always try them first before any other place for video games or unique toys. read more

I remember these guys from Pittsburgh and was THRILLED to see them open a store in Chicago. Whats not to love. Finally a place in Chicago to find music, movies and games at a great price. Oh, and you can trade stuff in too. Did I mention how easy they are to work with on trades. Plus, the staff at this location is simply outstanding. They know their stuff and deliver some of the best customer service in the city! I didn't even mind fighting the traffic and searching for parking in this hip, trendy neighborhood to get there. Although most people can just ride the Blue LIne to the Damen stop - from there it is a short walk to the store. You'll pass that "other" music store on your way, but keep walking. The Exchange is a great addition to this neighborhood. They also have another location on Belmont -steps from the Red Line. read more

Why did it take me so long to find this store?? Well, it's probably a good thing it did, because I would be even more broke than I am now. This store is every video game and movie lover's dream. They have games (and RARE ones) for all systems and thousands of used DVDs for sale. They're all in good condition, very well organized, and the prices are great! The store is clean and the staff was very nice. This will be the main reason I ever return to Wicker Park and its worth visiting, but set aside some time and money to do so. (on selected titles) Cd's in the same price range. In a world that is using all of it's natural resources, the Exchange has something for all your entertainment needs! This place has all things electronics, Video Games & CDs. I was impressed by the selection and the prices. I went original for a trade, and although they do not offer high rates for trade in or exchange, they do buy old games, dvd, gaming systems etc that are hard to find buyers for.
