I just did a makeup trial for my wedding with Stephanie and ended up having to find a different…read moreartist. She works out of a dermatologist's office, and I got a distinct sense that she is there to sell their products. Throughout the trial, she pointed out various things that were "wrong" with my face -- according to her I'm pale, have hollow, sunken eyes, ugly freckles, and am covered in wrinkles. She was also unable to articulate what various makeup looks might be like, and ended up giving me a total clown look with way too much dark eyeshadow up to my eyebrows and a bright purple lip color that clashed with my skin tone. The kicker was when she called the next day to tell me she didn't feel that the trial had gone well and that we should redo it, which would have been very nice of her except that she then told me it was all my fault for having told her I didn't like how it looked midway through. She charges a fee to do makeup on-site and would have required that I make all my bridesmaids do their makeup as well. She also said she couldn't give me lip color on the wedding day to take with me -- but she told me that the $17 lipsticks sold through the dermatology clinic were "very affordable." All told, I didn't feel she was competent or reasonably priced, and would strongly advise against booking her for weddings.
