I've actually gotten a few private messages from people asking me for additional information on how…read moremy IJL experience is going, so I thought I would post an update now that I'm 3 months in. The good: I am really pleased with the matches as they are all clearly looking for a relationship. Part of why I joined IJL was serious annoyance with the flakiness, difficulty actually meeting people in real life, and obvious focus of hooking up versus actually dating that I was finding in the online dating world. The staff is always upbeat and helpful. They have set me up on quite a few dates, more than I was expecting given that they told me the membership only guaranteed at least 16 dates. I've probably been on 8 dates so far. I get the impression there are a lot more men who sign up for this service than woman, so for me, that's a plus! The not so good: Sometimes I'm not sure the personal touch on the match making is really there and despite calling to give feedback after every date, I still don't feel like we are getting any closer to finding the right matches. 3 of the guys I was set up with were quite a bit younger than what I identified in my desired age range (which spans 12 years so it's not really narrow to start), which was fine in theory but became apparent quickly that we were in different stages of life and interests. A couple times I wondered if they had to set the guy or me up with someone for a date, more than that they really thought we were a good match. A number of them also seem to live kind of far out. I like doing things in the city and being active and social; I'm just not interested in being 45+ minutes from the city nor commuting 45 mins to an hour to see the person I'm dating on a routine basis (that one might be too picky, but it's what I'm feeling right now). IJL sets the dates, locations, and makes the reservations. 3 of my 8 experiences the restaurant said they didn't have a reservation for me when I showed up. This creates some panic as I don't have my date's contact info or even know what they look like, so it leaves me in the awkward position of trying to figure out who my date is or admitting to the staff that I'm meeting someone from a dating service and to help me find him. It's embarrassing and really frustrating given how much money I paid. Furthermore, the office closes at 6pm, so you can't get a hold of anyone to help if your date is after that time, and the emergency number listed doesn't work (or didn't at least the last time I tried to use it). The staff calls me multiple times to remind me of my upcoming dates; I wonder why they also don't confirm with the restaurant the day of on the reservation. I get that it happens, but so far it's almost a 40% fail rate. If I had to do it over again, I'd pass. I love the concept, but for the price I paid it's not working out the way I had hoped. I'm actually back online because I haven't been wow-ed by the results. Lastly, I wanted to add that I have never had a feedback session. I give feedback, but I haven't gotten feedback. I mention that because Jen R mentioned it in her review, and I wanted to confirm I've had a similar experience. I'm kind of ok with it--it sounds scary to get feedback!, but it is one of the items they list as part of the higher cost package. I'll be sure to give another update in a couple months!
