The sentence that goes round and round in my head every time I'm in this place is "wow, they must be raking it in".
The grounds are huge. Inside there is a lot of room for seating, several rooms,. Outside there's a terrace and large front and back gardens. I've never seen it empty. Most of all though, the prices border on extortionate.
It is really a nice play to spend time, particularly on a sunny day, whether you are in doors or out. The food is also of a fairly high standard. But it just isn't that high. A very small burger and chips is probably the cheapest thing you can get, and that will set you back about £13. You will be hungry afterward. For about the same price they have excellent deli boards. Fish, Cheese and meat. These really are delicious: but again there is simply not enough of it. They have a nice range of steaks at around £20 or more, and these are all just 'OK'. But by far the biggest disappointment was the time I got the most expensive thing I could - the rack of lamb with chorizo sausages. It was £40 and you share it with another. As expected, there wasn't enough of it, but most disappointing, was that the lamb was poorly cooked and utterly flavourless.
I can't decide quite what to say about the service. I've had good experiences, but on my last visit they seemed to have hired an arm of attractive young girls. I'm not against this on principle, but without having assigned them to specific areas you could find yourself telling several different waitresses that you've already ordered. read more
