This traditional and historic Young's pub has just had a refurbishment which, while retaining all the original features, has nevertheless given it a much-needed cleaner and fresher feel. Built in 1874, the pub has two bars, separated by a glass and panel partition, which has been thoroughly restored - on the Saloon bar side are panels painted by the (appropriately named!) Flemish artist Jan van Beers. The rear of the saloon, which is sub-divided into smaller cosy seating areas, is weirdly carpeted with what looks like a huge brown wool travel rug. Most peculiar. There's also a new conservatory-style dining area. The pub is tucked away in a lane of the same name, just a few paces from the underground station. The beers are standard Young's fare, with the odd guest ale, and seemed decently kept on my last visit. Service seemed OK, although they weren't terribly busy. The biggest change is the new gastro-pub style menu. I haven't eaten there, but the prices seem pretty standard for this sort of grub - about £8-£15 for a main course, although there were cheaper daily specials available, as well as 'platters for sharing' and a range of oysters. But then, we are in Hampstead... Altogether, it's not a bad watering hole for a quiet pint, although I personally prefer the Hollybush, up the hill, which has more character.

The Flask is a throw back to another era and yet is entirely in our century. In looks, you will feel like you are in a pub from 'back when'. They offer good beer (though not as large a selection of craft beer as I'd like) and food. Lovely staff and interesting people.

Friendly pub. Lots of groups meeting. Young's pub. Special bitter is nice. Lovely Victoriana etched glass and wood interior. Shows rugby. Swanky looking restaurant in the back (as yet untried).

Service was impeccable (shout out to Deborah and Jacob) and the food was phenomenal! Some of the best fish and chips we've ever had.

My wife and I came here for a quick dinner out while staying in Hampstead and then decided to come back again a second time because it was just a great experience overall. First, We sat out outside on the patio, which was fantastic because of the weather and it's on a quieter street with large trees around. Second, we each had a nice pint. I've long ago stopped hoping for British pubs to actually have a particularly good selection of craft beer, but this was well above average with a few decently hoppy (and one hazy) IPA on tap. I won't be coming back for the beer, but it's definitely drinkable. The food stood out more. This is well-above normal pub grub and might actually be worth seeking the place out for the food alone. I had sweet potato dumplings with lentils which were deliciously differently textured with crispy outsides of the dumplings giving way to creamy insides over slightly firm lentils. My wife got the lamb with tzatziki and when it came out with tzatziki substituted for another sauce, they actually made her a small side of tzatziki since she was excited about it. We wrapped up with chocolate basque cheesecake with cherries that was maybe the best thing of the night. The cheesecake was good, but the tart cherries balanced things out and made the meal.

Mussel in cream sauce £18 - it is very good but it is sold out very quickly so get your hands on it if you are thinking about ordering it. The mussels are fat and the quantity is just about right. I'd add more salt but everything is perfect. They even give you lemon water to wash away the fishy smell on your fingers. Chicken schnitzel £24 - large portion with plenty of capers. Personally not a big fan of capers but I quite like it with the anchovies they put on top. Very warm inside of the restaurant even on a freezing day! We had a good time!

Prices are reasonable, the vibe is unbeatable, the garden is gorgeous and the food is great. You should absolutely stop by for Saturday barbecue if you have the chance. It's a big pub, with lots of seating, and some cute little dark corners around the other side of the bar, great for a date! Huge beer garden which is great for Summer-afternoon drinks (it's coming, Summer, it's coming!). Oh and another large area upstairs that holds regular comedy/music/gig nights. Check the blackboard out the front for details. The staff are so rock and cute that it's hard not to fall in love at least once (or twice) during a visit, that is, if you haven't already fallen in love with another punter.... The pubs serves Thai Food which is fabulously tasty - restaurant quality - and all meals less than a tenner.
