Came mid evening on a Thursday night. The bar downstairs was packed. Upstairs in the restaurant, the two of us were able to be seated quickly, although it was pretty full. The scotch egg was good. The potato and leek soup was ok. It was bland. The pie of the day was pretty good. I wanted the fish and chips, but the portion looked huge for one person. Never thought I would be giving a pub a five star review on yelp but here we are. The coach makers arms is a little bit more upscale than your average pub but it's still definitely a pub. The deviled eggs were amazing, and the fish and chips hit the spot perfectly. There is an upstairs with a little bit more of a formal dining set up, but we ate in the bar area and service was quick and comfortable. Love this spot! read more

How fun! In America, pubs usually aren't very aesthetic or cute, so I was surprised how fun and vibey this place was! We went mid day on a Friday and had to wait a few min for a table but could order right away. This pub was full of happy people and great vibes. The exterior was classic and lovely and the inside featured all kinds of art and beautiful design. We went to the bar and were able to order immediately. The staff is very efficient and kind. I am gluten free but wanted the true pub feel, so I got a cider. They have a decent selection of gluten free ciders and beers, I was impressed! My cider was lovely. They have a clean restroom, some great food options, and are just a cool lively place to spend some time. read more

Started off very promising. Nice pub downstairs, cute restaurant upstairs. When we made our booking a few days prior, they hold a £20 per person charge in your card to secure your table. More on that later. When we came for dinner a few days later, we were promptly seated. Our first waitress was very friendly, but apparently gave us two wine lists instead of a wine list and drink list. When we asked another waitress, she abruptly said it's in the second list. All four of our group looked and said it was the same wine list. She wouldn't believe us and grumpily said "it's the 2nd one" and walked off. Our first waitress came back, looked, and apologized for the mistake and brought us a drink list. Sheesh. We ordered our pints, and fish and chips all around. The fish was quite good, not as good as some other places we tried, but we enjoyed it. Pints were well poured, and the treacle tarts we had were nice. Now back to the booking hold on our cards. One would have presumed that charge would be reversed or take. Out of our final bill. None of that happened. When we checked our CC charges after getting back from the trip, Coach Makers had a random £35 charge on our card from the day we made the booking. I'm honestly getting tired of having to verify every single thing when we go out in London. This was one of three times we dined out (diff restaurants) and had random charges or extra dishes out on our bill with the onus on us to make sure it's right. Also, they have a 15% gratuity charge and a Tree Farm charge added to the bill automatically. They say it's discretionary, but again, onus on the patron to say something. What a great little find. When my hotel concierge booked me here and after checking the Yelp reviews I called the concierge back and asked to rebook me to another spot. Any spot. Help. But he assured me the food was very very good and that I'd love the atmosphere. Well. He was spot on. Candidly when I arrived I was a little disappointed because I was told I could only get a seat at the bar for dinner. No tables left. But was assured it wasn't like sitting at a bar bar. I arrived and walked through a regular pub setting. Nothing wrong w that but I quickly grew worried about where they were going to seat me. Everything changed (like when Dorothy wakes up in Oz and everything goes from black and white to color......minus the Wicked witch part). I was told to go upstairs and I discovered a charming and elegant cozy dining room. The kind of spot that only the locals know about. I sat at the elegant bar and had some wine,....ate my yummy dinner....and enjoyed a quiet evening with delicious food. The staff was so kind and caring. I have no idea why their Yelp status is so low. Not commensurate with the restaurant, the food or the staff. Maybe just really tough graders? Trust me. The 3 stars is to thank the maitre'd for seating us without a reservation on a Thursday evening. The sausage rolls were decent and the side salads were very fresh and bright tasting. However, the French Onion Soup was inedible. The broth was the color of diluted chicken stock and had a flavor that hinted of seafood. Yea, that is what I wrote - a seafood aftertaste. The bread was cleverly cut to a round that fit exactly into the soup tureen. However, the cheese on the bread was a cheese spread that was not melted and instead had been absorbed as a paste into the bread. It looked as though the kitchen ran out of cheese and took the cheese mixture (unseasoned) from a Welsh rarebit and spread it on the bread. We are still debating whether the worst bite of food was the stock or the bread cheese mess. Perhaps if one orders anything but the French onion soup their meal will be more appealing as the other diners seemed to be enjoying their meals. read more

The Sunday roast was fantastic. The order was the Wellington in Veg and the flavour was amazing and even better then the actual beef roast! It can make you forget about meat for a long while. The wine list was a bit down as the wine collection was not good and too pricy. The worst I have to say was the service. The waitress was not bothered to speak a single word with a poker face... I would still go through for the food, but with that kind of service and drink menu, I'm not sure how long it can keep me going there... read more

This is my first time going to this pub and I did not know what to expect. The pub has rustic wooden chairs, massive windows and relaxed environment. The waiting staff were very inattentive. I had to wait for 20 minutes in order to get served (only for drinks!). I can tell that the waitress was very stressed as she was the only one serving the second floor. We ordered the Sunday roast (Roasted beef and veggie). They were mediocre. I would recommend the veggie over the beef without a doubt. The wine list was also mediocre. We have ordered Rioja. The waitress told us the wine we wanted wasn't available, without even a hint of apology or making any alternative suggestions. I (may?) return for the nice comfy decor, but definitely not the service and wine.. read more

Nice place in a very nice and safe neighborhood. More suits here than tourists or locals, but a very clean and formal atmosphere for a pub. The interior area is quite big, and had no problem making our way to the bar. I like the fact that they offer smaller half pints at around $3 pounds. Prompt service with 3 bartenders during rush hour, so you never have to wait too long for your drink. Overall a decent spot if moving from place to place in the neighborhood. read more

A mixed experience. Both rooms the one on the ground floor and the one on the first floor a really beautiful. On the ground floor with an exposed brick wall and windows all around towards the streets. The chandeliers and candles create a really warm atmosphere. I've been there on Wednesday evening and is was not really crowded (went there because as always Le Relais de Venise was packed). When saying "mixed experience" then only because some things are just not fitting, so it is not a restaurant, but a Gastro Pub with a waiter - I ordered Merlot and got Sauvignon Blanc, usually I don't care, because no one is paying attention anyway, but this time stressed that in case the burger comes with onions I need to have them without as I am allergic, guess what, the bottom bun was covered in onions. I asked for Mayonnaise and after my chips were finally cold I was told there are out of it - so service, friendly, but... don't know perhaps should do something else for a living. The burger was good and the mushroom toast that my friend had, was delicious comfort food on a cold evening like this. 3 out of 5 - definitely will come back when in the area as it is a really nice place, but probably only for a glass of wine. read more

I was hoping to find good, old-fashioned English eats; as it turned out, if I were looking for mediocre eats, it proved adequate. The pork scotch egg with pickled shallots and watercress mayonnaise was fine, salty, and satisfying. The beer battered haddock with triple-cooked chips, crushed peas, and tartare sauce was fine, dull, with no malt vinegar (just lemon). The portion of haddock was small, but it was adequate because the dish did not motivate the ravenous within. The thrice cooked chips needed the three cooks because they were thick and dense sticks of potato. The day's house pie - chicken - was thickly crusted and small, with a side of sauteed broccoli rabe and a side of gravy. Everything was dull and in dire need of salt. The service was fine. But 2 pounds for tap water? Yikes. Not a great meal. 2.6 rounded up. read more

"Homely" is definitely a good descriptor for Coach Makers. Because it's literally in a house, you see. I only stopped through for a drink, but the intimate atmosphere was great and they had a pretty significant local tap selection. They also appeared to have an extensively awesome menu, which - while I didn't partake - appeared to be a theme for most of the classier pubs I visited during my time in London. Americans spent all of this time crafting an image of "British pubs" that are usually little more than hanging a couple of flags and showing some football in the corner - why couldn't they have spent a little more time exporting some of the cooking talent, too? read more

A gem of a gastropub hidden off of Marylebone High Street. We went to Coach Makers for a private party in what is usually the upstairs dining room. They pushed the tables to the side to make room for 50 people. It's a great place for a party - high ceilings, huge windows, separate toilets, its own bar... but all that aside, it's the food that makes Coach Makers so special. They have an amazing menu - everything from crab cakes to roast - and literally every morsel was devoured by the crowd within moments of being dropped off. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a tasty meal in Marylebone. read more

I love a pub with table service! Just back from lunch. Three portions of posh fish and chips (with the best mushy peas ever) and three alcoholic drinks came to less than £40. The service tends to be a little sketchy in the evenings as the place gets totally rammed - don't expect to be able to get a seat. I can think of better evening watering holes but for a quick lunch in a nice gastro-pub setting, Coach Makers does the job. read more

A nice pub with 3 levels not far off Oxford Street. What makes this place attractive is that there is plenty of space so I have never found it packed to the gills as with many other places in central London. In fact I can usually find a seat at the bar or even a table, and I don't have to shout to carry on a conversation. The tap beer selection could be a little better (esp. if they could keep all the kegs flowing) so I subtract a star. read more

This is one of my favourite pubs, especially for lunch. I've always had good service and the food is always very nice. The staff are nice enough and a lunch order won't take forever to arrive, which is good if you have to get back to the office. The chips are really nice, and when they have a curry special I always go for that. The menu changes quite often too whice is nice. read more

We moved to Marylebone in November and have been to the Coach Maker's Arms several times, for supper. Each time better than the last, cannot recommend this terrific pub enough. This is a perfectly fine pub for the area. Nothing special really. There is a downstairs bar which the staff usually encourage you to use and there are signs hinting to an upstairs area too, however I have never ventured that way. The prices are pretty high for what you get especially given that after work you are very unlikely to find a place to sit. I don't touch the stuff but I have been told the Gin options here are awful and a couple of times we have been given a Gin and soda rather than a G&T all in all not great for a place with signs advertising their "Gin Palace". The atmosphere is good, the bar service slow. read more

Found The72 quite by accident. Walked into the Coach Makers Arms and upstairs was somewhat crowded. We asked about downstairs, the upstairs doorman said they had a private party but went to check to see if it was over, which it was, so down we went. Glad we did. This downstairs area is small and has a very speakeasy vibe to it, I mean, a very speakeasy vibe. Only about 4 seats at the bar, but were all empty since the party was pretty much finishing up and nobody else had come down yet. We were treated to some of the best old fashioneds we had in London period (arguably even here at home in Chicago). I totally forgot or missed her name, but the blonde bartender was extremely personable, nice, and quite the mixologist. The next night we went we inquired about the downstairs and again, were told a party was just finishing up. Missed another name, but a very cute red head went down to check, and came back and said to head on down. Now, I am not sure how this was known we wanted to sit at the bar (again, only about 4 seats), but as we got down there, the blonde bartender from the previous night was pulling out two barstools from the back room behind the bar for us, and of course recognized us from the night before. Again, we had a great time, excellent service, even better drinks. They also have lemoncello if that is your thing (we enjoy it as we start to wrap up our evenings). The food quality and overall experience has never missed.
