A lovely country village pub with a roaring fire and a lot of people enjoying good food and great service (and dog friendly). The starters were go good the three of us couldn't choose which one we wanted, so a surprised staff member delivered their first (I'm sure) four starters for three people (there's nothing wrong with one for the table right!?). There was quite a strange silence fallen over the table as we devoured our starters. The creamy garlic mushrooms were amazing, the goats cheese peignet with pickled beetroot (for sharing) was delicious, and the pork spring rolls and pâté were met with equal delight. The mains of slow cooked pork belly (with roasts not mash), the steak & ale pie with chips and corn fed chicken supreme were all very well presented and more importantly, tasted amazing. The pork with LOTS of crackling was only let down let down by the lack of Yorkshire pudding (I know, not meant to have it with Pork dinner but I wanted one and it wasn't allowed due to exact numbers being made). The food was washed down with two bottles of white Rioja and followed by some beautiful desserts of chocolate brownie and Baileys Creme Brûlée with cookie. All in all, a perfect Sunday roast and for £122, was pretty impressive. Note: the staff were young but were absolutely honest and professional. It was great to see and they brought the food out promptly and couldn't have been nicer. A great find.

It really was a pleasure to hang around here, despite being ever so slightly chilly (I'm used to the balmy climate of London). The views are awesome, there's wildlife everywhere and plenty of dogs around if you're a dog person. The lunch was in the cruck barn and this is really an. Exceptional building, it looks old despite being only 10 years old! The decor is perfect. Except maybe the projection of the menu, not the biggest fan if that (it was hard to read). The food was impeccable, I had the pigeon and venison and it was perfect, the table generally seemed very pleased with their food so I think everything else was good too! The roast looked incredibly, serious food envy there. The drink selection, as you would expect in a decent traditional Yorkshire pub, was local and very very good. If you're in the area (or even just in the north east) then I would definitely recommend coming here for some food. Beware the roads however, super difficult to drive around.

I know…read morethat makes me sound like I have issues (and quite frankly I do but I won't go into them), but I just like some liquid refreshment. Quick then get me into the Ilkley Moor Vaults. This is a cracking pub. It's nicely done out and has a very warm friendly atmosphere. It's laid back and chilled all the way. Now onto the important bit and the drinks. Well I love it. Simple as that. The wine list has some excellent tipples on and it isn't ridiculously expensive either. The ale is finely kept and there is a nice selection as well. My only problem is deciding my beverage of choice. As for the food, it's real served pub grub of the highest order. This place deserves a good old pat on the back. They are also super relaxed about dogs and walkers too, which is good to know if you want a walking stop off point to refuel.

Just down the A65 in Ilkley, this food-focused walkers' haunt is one of the best. With low lighting, dark wood and cosy seating to compliment the all-important open fire, this is prime date territory, and the restaurant-quality food and extensive wine list (plus a good soft drink selection for the driver) will ensure an evening to remember. On my visit I enjoyed a spinach, squash and goat's cheese lasagne - a deliciously fresh-tasting use of seasonal, local produce - and a melt-in-the-mouth cheeseboard accompanied by a tart quince jelly. I can heartily recommend both. Although food is clearly the main event here, a decent selection of house and guest ales means its also worth just popping in for a drink, and with the pub's position just five minutes from the centre of Ilkley, a quaint, up-market spa town, and at the start of the Dales Way, there are plenty of opportunities to walk off any excesses.

This next one is purely for those flush moments, it's the Devonshire Arms. Let me put this into context for it. It is a hotel and restaurant in the exceptional Bolton Abbey area with money can't buy views. What is more it even has a Helipad. Yes I find that most useful when I tell Jeeves to pick me up after a few cheeky snifters of 1000 year aged malt. This place oozes class and elegance. The Burlington Restaurant is highly regarded throughout the country and the set menu will set you back £60. Think Foie Gras and lots of things I can't pronounce properly. Also think food that looks too good to eat and wouldn't be out of place in the Tate Modern. This is one dashing affair and has four AA-rosettes and a Michelin Star to prove it. However, if that is a bit out of sight for your finances then the Brassiere may be a better bet. You'll find it much more informal and easier to swallow when the end of the night bill comes in. here you can pick up a main course for under £12 and we are still looking at excellent quality food and more than your average pub grub. For me the cheese board is quite superb with locally sourced ones of the highest flavour and textures. Scrumptious. The hotel itself is out of this world and they do occasionally have special offers, bringing the price down a tad. If not you are looking at well over a £100 but it is so idyllic it's hard to argue against that cost. Sometimes you pay for what you get and that is simply the case here. The Devonshire Arms has the reputation and stature it does because it delivers on all fronts. Leave any thoughts of a cheap weekend away behind though and get the gold card at the ready.

It took almost 30 mins to get our drinks and I further 15 for anyone to ask what we wanted to eat. That trend continued throughout the sitting. Very disappointing. I'm not sure what they were going for with the bread? Bits of over cooked potato sludge dotted throughout was extremely off putting. The butter, sorry cold yellow concrete that accompanied it was not getting spread on anything! Unfortunately my hopes of the butter making the bread palatable were dashed. God forbid when the mains arrive and our drinks are empty anyone asks us if we would like another! Pfff, just add it to the pile of events the Is establishment has failed deliver. I had the sausage with bubble and squeak, my girlfriend the "Dev" Burger. Now firmly in the mindset of not expecting much the mains were actually horrific. The sausages were as over hooked and charred and the burger looked like it was from Iceland. It was the toughest piece of leather ever passed as edible matter. I wish the potato sludge from the bread had stuck around in my mouth long enough to cover the taste of whatever I just ate. This was 100% the worst £50 ever spent.

We spent the remainder of our holidays here, every evening. Nestling by a brook full of eels. The pubs dog, Jasper, loved to just stand in the cooling water on the hot evenings that we experienced this July. Sufficient room to sit outside with plenty of tables. Service is second to none. Professional, efficient and, more to the point, friendly. Great selection of real ales, my favourite was the Cromwell. Now to the reason for frequenting this hostelry, the food. A reasonable menu taking into account the position of this pub. A good varied choice of fresh seafood, burgers, curries and steaks. We tried most of them and they all were extremely tasty. All cooked to order. Great mussels in white wine. Behind the bar is a blackboard describing their Naga 'Viper' curry made with, 'officially', the hottest chilli pepper. Underneath is written 'Curries ordered 528, curries eaten 400' LOL. I love hot curries but, even I, would not attempt it. We hope to make a return visit next year. Many thanks to the 'guvner', his wife, the staff (especially the chef and kitchen staff) for making our short holiday break a total delight. See you again.

When I first moved up into West Yorkshire territory I hadn't really heard anything about Ilkley, and when my flatmates decided we would go for a visit, all the people local to the area shouted out in unison On Ilkley Moor Bar T'at. Excuse you? Apparently it derives from the little ditty about being on Ilkley Moor and your hat blowing away and thus being left on the moor Bar T'at. Funny Yorkshire folk. Anyhoo, Ilkley is not without it's fair share of nice places for a glass of wine or a swift pint and some food to enjoy, and Bar T'at comes under that umbrella. The feeling from the bar is definitely intimate, with dark wood and wooden bench/booths, low lighting and narrow walkways, but it's not too intrusive. Descend the spiral staircase and there's another space to enjoy, primarily used for people indulging in Bar T'at pub lunches, but for me I prefer the patio area outside, especially in days of a more appealing temperature. The menu is nice and concise, not too much on it, but plenty enough to choose from, and the prices, well they're a bit on the expensive side of pub food, but it is really nice food, nice portions, and feeling of being full stays with you longer than you'd think. On cold days, I would say check out the homemade Shepherd's Pie, complete with vegetables, tasty and part of your five a day. Main courses £7, sandwiches between £5 and £6, sides £2, and starters about the same. Really nice! Thumbs up!

Now, usually, I'm a cappuccino kind of girl. But every so often I like to have something just a bit stronger! I'm not suggesting anything too heavy, like, but you know what I mean. One happy Saturday I was feeling this way inclined and so I nipped into Bar T'at. Yey! What a lovely atmosphere. Having nipped into many a countryside pub solo before I feared the odd looks which are often donated to myself, a single young female, as if to suggest that I must be strange for coming in alone to drink. None of those looks, so first impressions were good. I had a very delectable gin and tonic, served with lime, and had a good chill on one of their comfy seats. The best bit? They're situated in the huge car park courtyard right near some of the best shops. Perfect!
