If you love needlepoint, this shop is a must. Stopped by to check it out because I was off this day. Wide variety of canvases, thread, and notions. Staff were friendly, informative, and helpful. Everything was extremely organized and well displayed! They have open stitch nights but check their Instagram or website for dates. Only wish is they were open later at least one night a week for those of us that work an 8-4 job. read more

Took 2 old canvases in with lots of questions! Jennifer was there, she is there every Wednesday and Thursday. They have a needle work stitching group working on their own as well . Jennifer knew exactly what I wanted and needed immediately. Great advice, with reasons why something was preferable to something else. She sorted out threads, answered my many questions and never acted like I was bothering her. I had purchased another canvas online and will be bringing that in for her hints and to mount it on the wooden frames. So glad I met her, I feel like I met a friend! I have been shopping here whenever i am visiting. I am amazed now at the amount of selections available! i received a canvas for my birthday from another store and went in today to pick threads to us. The staff in the store was so kind and helpful. They had endless patience directing me to the different kinds of threads available and took time to explain why certain ones were better to use. They helped me make great selections. The owner was extremely knowledgable and super friendly. Even the other needle pointers in the store were friendly!! A must for any needle pointer to stop in and visit ! read more

Tables in the back for those who want to come in and stitch with friends lends to a high-spirited atmosphere, full of joy! The Flying Needles is a wonderful shop. They have a great selection for fibers and threads. The service is terrific everyone is always smiling and helpful. It is a fantastic shop to go to stitch and meet new friends. They are willing to help you with your projects whether you want to just basketweave or learn new stitches or embellishments. I have several NEEDLEPOINT stores within the same distance from me that I have to travel to and my top choice has always been the FLYING NEEDLES for their service and knowledge. The drive is worth it because of their patience and helpful ideas when I get stumped on a project. The FLYING NEEDLES also has a generous rewards program and my points accumulate quickly. What a resource for our community! If you want to feel good, go into this shop! The "Wow" factor is there. They have a great array of canvases...traditional, whimsical, religious. The Flying Needles has been my go to shop for over 2 years. They always have fun canvases in stock and their thread collection is amazing. They also always seem to have one or two trunk shows happening. The shop owner has placed many special orders for me and they arrive faster than any of the other Needlepoint shops I've worked. They keep their website updated which helps as I'm not local and many Needlepoint shops don't do this. Couldn't recommend it more!! read more

When I lived in Largo, I enjoyed going into Flying Needles because they had such beautiful and exciting model garments. I also liked looking at the things that women sitting around were making. It doesn't make any difference to me whether staff is friendly. I was disappointed to learn that the shop is now needlepoint only and has moved. read more

Snarky service, inordinately high prices, and a limited selection in a small shop. When we visited, there was a sit-n-knit in progress - as soon as we stepped into the shop, all conversation stopped. Holy awkward, Batman. The shop was too small for the size of the group, and we had to shimmy around their chairs to see the stock. No one smiled or offered to move. There were two clerks on duty who pretty much ignored us until we lingered too long in one place - then they showed up to make certain we weren't shoplifting. Because we hadn't discovered Knit-Pics at the time, we bought some sock yarn - a brand we later found online for considerably less and with the full colour line available. Like some other established brick and mortar stores, Flying Needles seems to be relying on having been "the only place in town" and forgotten how far a smile or two goes. Won't be crashing their party again. Edit: After posting this , I was contacted by the shop's management/owner to tell me we didn't know where we had been or what we had bought. Nice. On the off-chance that I've grown dotty in my old age, I double checked the location on G****e maps.. Same striped awning, same little black lamppost... How kind of them to validate our perception of their attitude toward customers not part of their little tribe. read more

Store sells both needlepoint and knitting supplies, with heavy emphasis on needlepoint. Since I don't do needlepoint any more, I will only comment on the knitting part of the store. The yarn selection is quite meager and overpriced, and I found the clerks to be less than helpful. The clerk was bordering on rude, and anxious for me to make my selection and get checked out so she could get back to her friends. Every time I have been to the store, there has been a group of needlepointers sitting around a table having a grand time. That's all good, but I have always been treated as though I'm breaking up their gab fest. It's quite a 'private club' atmosphere and not welcoming at all to new customers. But, because the knitting yarn selection is so poor, I probably won't go back anymore It's easier to buy on the internet. That said, Flying Needles has an opportunity to serve the growing local knitting community, as my go-to store (Knit 'n Knibble in Tampa) has recently closed. I was so sorry to see that store close, as the selection was fabulous, the clerks were knowledgeable, and the prices were easy on the wallet. But perhaps Flying Needles does not want to expand their knitting section, and only wants to concentrate on the needlepoint. The store does seem to have lovely needlepoint canvases, yarns, accessories. read more
