Ask the Community - Foothills Bank

    1st Bank Yuma

    1st Bank Yuma

ZERO STARS. I used to interview banks before doing business with them. Really. I had a list of…read morequestions I would ask. 1st Bank failed my interview process. A past bank board chair was a client of mine and asked me to try them out anyway. I told him they failed my interview, so he had a past bank president call me and try to jolly me over. That was a very long time ago. I was never as happy with them as I was with Yuma Community (best bank I ever worked with), but they were okay-ish. My opinions based on my experience follow. I may not remember every detail, but I can remember every time they made me feel like they thought I was trash. Everything just kept getting harder, but a ran a fair amount of money through them for years. Big checks they would put holds on, then they would put holds on smaller checks, and then they increased the length of time they would put holds on, even for local checks drawn on local banks. Even on modest size bank drafts. I never had one of those financial instruments bounce. In my opinion they were just deliberately stringing customer money to make their deposit look bigger. It made it hard to do business when I customer wrote me a deposit check and the minimum time before I could use that money was nine days. They said seven business days, but you always had at least one weekend added on. Sometimes two depending on what day you made your deposit. 13 days sometimes. 14 if one of them was a holiday weekend. Then they started demanding to know where every little bit of money I deposited came from. 1st Bank was locally owned, and I really wasn't comfortable sharing inside company data with potential competitors or bankers who might invest in competing businesses. I looked it up. It was their "bank policy" to DEMAND AT THREAT OF DEBANKING that information. It was not the law. I know some of it is the federal government and their "know your customer" big brother spycraft, but some of it is banks leaning into the sh!t. 1st Bank leaned into it. I pretty much quit doing business with them. They weren't easy to deal with, and they weren't nice about it either. I use two other banks, and currently, and while neither is a shiny example of customer service they are both easily better than 1st Bank. When I saw the OneAz was taking over 1st Bank I hoped some of it would be better and some of it would run down hill. That has not been my experience. They are leaning into treating customers like mushrooms even harder in my opinion. A couple days ago I needed a cashier's check. I was going to stop by one of my other banks, but they had long lines, so I drove on up to OneAz/1st bank. There were only a couple vehicles in the parking lot, and there was no line at all inside. What followed made me realize why. Next time I will go to one of my other banks and wait in line. I emptied two of my accounts using online tools as soon as I got back to my office, and I'll close the third when I get automatic payments and deposits set up on an account at a different bank. These are my opinions, but they are based on my experiences. ZERO STARS.

I just saw were they won some big banking award as a top five in the country. I have to ask who…read morevotes on those things? Did they make up their own banking organization so they could vote themselves an award for PR purposes. I also see some community involvement projects they supposedly support. That's awesome for PR purposes I guess, but I think it would be better PR to just provide better service and not have sketchy practices. Earlier this year I deposited a check from a local business drawn on a local bank, and AFTER processing the deposit the told me it would have a nine day hold. Nine days? Well seven business days, so yes. Nine calendar days. I've been in business in Yuma for 30 years give or take and I have never ever had a nine day hold on a check. 3 days on large checks sometimes, but this wasn't even that big. I asked for my deposit back and went down the street where I deposited the same check in another bank where I do business. Funds were available the same day. A few weeks ago I helped my mom sell some trucks from my dad's estate. Old not running beaters, but we got some cash. I stopped by 1st Bank to deposit that money in a joint account I have with my mom and they told me it was "bank policy" if I deposited more than 3000 dollars I had to tell them where I got the money. This was a single cash transaction for less than the mandatory IRS reporting amount, and I can't remember the last time I deposited cash in a bank, so there obviously was no hint of illegal structuring. They just wanted to know pry into my business. They had no business knowing. It was my mom's money so I went ahead and completed the transaction, but I was a bit offended. Last weekend I sold one of my vehicles to a dealer. Monday I stopped to deposit the BANK DRAFT (supposedly a more secure instrument than a check) from an Arizona business drawn on an Arizona Bank and I asked first since I knew they wouldn't tell me if I did... so are you going to put a hold on this? Yep. Seven business days. Nine calendar days. I walked out with my bank draft and deposited it down the street where funds were available the same day. Something is seriously broken at 1st Bank and they don't seem to care. I'm a small customer, but I certainly would have deposited a lot more money with them if they didn't force me into giving them an interest free short term loan anytime anybody pays me more than a couple bucks and I want to deposit it. I don't wish any of their employees ill, but this sort of policy makes me concerned about their financial health and question who voted for that banking award they supposedly won. I cleared the last couple bucks out of my business and personal account there online earlier today (it will take a few days to clear), and I am seriously (very seriously) considering moving my mom's account to another bank. I just don't trust a bank with questionable practices. Maybe they are not as bad in my opinion as AEA/Avenir (The bank who is in my opinion whitewashing their name), but it doesn't look good either.
