We are new to the area and popped into this pub (Sunday afternoon) to check out what the local pubs had to offer. From the outside, this pub looks decent. As you walk through the door, "The Summerhouse" is pretty dingy with 90's decor and not many smiley faces. I ordered a pint of Bass, my partner order a cider. The barman seemed friendly. In our search for light, we opted to walk upstairs where we were greeted by an enormous empty restaurant. When we asked the waitress if we could sit in the light and airy restaurant, she refused us. They must have been expecting a party of 150 people for roast dinners.... Back downstairs, we sat in the lounge. I supped my pint, it didn't taste great. Dirty lines perhaps? I like my beer, I didn't like this pint of Bass. Although me and my partner enjoy each others company, we couldn't finish our drinks quick enough. Leaving us feeling that "The Summerhouse" was more "Outhouse". We won't be back.

Although there is also the tv screen which does play sports too along with dart board and standard fruit machines. She took us to a nice spacious table, offered to get high chair right away. She was consistently friendly and inviting. The food was wonderful. My hisband had gammon and chips. He thoroughly enjoyed all of it! He said the chips were PERFECT! My daughter had cheese and leek soup with hot fresh bread- she thoroughly enjoyed her meal too. Some of the other reviews talked about noise at night but let's face it You're over a pub but the rooms are really nice they're very clean they're super comfortable there's a fireplace in the rooms in the atmosphere is very familial and everybody here seems to have a good attitude and is having a good time. The food is great The price of the room and everything was super reasonable. We spent some time talking with some of the folks here Mark behind the bar served this breakfast and Sally came down and chatted with us for a while and it was just not the type of experience that you'd find at a chain hotel it was very real very comfortable and one that we'd certainly want to return to.

Being a Bath Ales managed pub, it sort of reflects the qualities of similar Bath Ale run pubs, insofar as it has good character and is in a good location. Unlike some of the others (in Bristol anyway) it's actually quite large and being quite close to the Memorial Ground it attracts a large group of lager swilling Gas Heads on a Saturday afternoon. The food they serve is of the brasserie or ponced up British variety, but is fairly inexpensive for what you get (which is good). The other thing of note is the large garden which plays host to an annual music festival there and live music on Sunday evenings. With not a juke box, fruit machine or pool table in sight, it's an odd mix at times but a pretty decent boozer in my book.

Racks is a high end wine bar, on St Pauls road, between the heart of Clifton Village and the bottom…read moreof Whiteladies Road. It's quite a posh place - expect the real, clichéd Bristol Uni and general Cliftonite crowd in here. I'm probably a fan though - the outside seating area is a really nice place to have a drink, even in the evening as it's serviced by a good amount of patio heaters. You've got to come prepared for Clifton prices though, as a drink is going to be quite far the wrong side of £3. They do a good range of shooters - last time I was here I tried the more lethal concoction of Jagermeister, Goldschlagger and Midori, which went down surprisingly well, and at £3.50 was an adequate, but not cheap, price for a shooter like that. They do have a table service, even if you're just drinking, which is quite helpful and surprising, you really don't expect that in Bristol. Also the staff here seem to be unfailingly attractive - I'm sure the management must have some sort of ploy going on, but I'm sure there's not too many complaints. As well as a main menu of good pub type food, they do a range of set menus, including buffets, BBQs and a more gormet set menu. The food is an excellent quality, and I actually think fairly priced for the standard. The only drawback the menus other than the main are only available to large groups, but the main one is pretty wide ranging. Maybe a bit boring, but I advise the burger, a beer, a bit of sunshine and have a chill in the patio area - it'll do your soul good.
