I like me some Fresh Market; we've been friends for years and years. Back in the day, we'd do a fun monthly shop every so often here but with Pubix charging 38% more than Walmart these days, ask me how I know, there's not as much sticker shock anymore. It's actually cheaper to shop Aldi on Instacart and get it delivered to the house than go to Publix. And RIP Kroger. Meats are just better and often cheaper here. Bakery's fantastic. Sushilicious! lol Don't even ask me about the rotisserie chicken. Worlds better. You don't want that Pubix pigeon. Jyeah, you could totally upgrade yourself into bankruptcy shopping interesting and unusual things but you don't have to. Stick to the script and you'll be better off for it. Well this was an experience! I knew it had a lot of vegan, good for you options. I usually shop big box but because my wife gets cash back on an app and fresh market was listed as one of the participating locations.thought i would try them out. Employees were not friendly, and checkouts you have no way to know who was open, their checkout space is narrow . I have a detailed list of what i needed for our daycare, i was only able to buy 3 items on that list. What do families buy here that have children??Ended up going back and finishing up my shopping list elsewhere. I don't shop here often, mostly because it's on the pricier side, but every time I do, it feels like a little treat-yourself moment. I keep coming back for their salmon salad with dill and cucumber. It's so fresh, flavorful, and honestly one of the best grab-and-go meals I've had. I always end up picking up a croissant box & something from their baked goods section. They're buttery, flaky perfection. The ambiance is warm and I always feel relaxed once I come in. Lighting is perfect because it makes you want to stay longer and they might be on to something there. I find myself taking my sweet time going from aisle to aisle with no rush. While I'm there, I like to explore their drink section, they always have something interesting, whether it's a unique juice, botanical soda, or a fancy iced tea I haven't seen before. They have a great range of high-quality products, and it's fun to venture off and splurge on 3-4 special items every few months. This was a spontaneous and last minute visit. We had visited Uppercrust next door and I decided to stop in since Ocala does not have a Fresh Market or Whole Foods. The last time I was in a Fresh Market was probably 4-5 years ago in Broward. Hubs joined me and we roamed the store, with no plans on purchasing anything specific. First was the produce section. They had Cindy's Bleu Cheese dressing, which is one of my faves so I picked that up. Then we discovered some veggie patties that were loaded with so many yums! I started to get irritated because there were several rude people who came and stood right in front of me without moving. Ugh. Next was the bakery section. It was kind of hectic in this area because it was in between the deli and seafood area. I did find these garlic toasts that I used to buy at an Italian market in SoFL so I was so friggin excited! We saw other goodies but decided not to purchase because of the prices. Some items were just insanely overpriced! We walked through the rest of the store and picked up random items that were unique. I found apricot juice so I had to spend $8 on it lol. I was disappointed in the cheese section. I would have expected way more variety and more of it. Same with the bakery section. I wound up spending $100 on 1 bag of groceries, which is crazy but we do not get this opportunity often. The cashier was not friendly or personable but not rude either. Meat Dept serveral trips to store have not had advertised steaks instocks claim supply issue. I asked then why not just take the signs down. Showing whats on sale. Today ran out to certain Filets asked butcher to cut some his response was well we still have plenty of the other Filets left in the case ( $10-$13.99) higher price is this a bait and switch ? A lot of people are quick to dismiss the fresh market as some sort of high-end supermarket with outlandish prices. Wall in some respects and with some products this is 100% true oh, you can also find some pretty good deals at The Fresh Market. Service is good here and I like how when you are checking out your products, it is almost like a small town, local business type feel. Of course, this is an illusion. The Fresh Market is at least a national chain, if not an international chain. But still, it is a nice experience overall. Aliya at checkout was fantastic. Again, this place can be expensive. However, keep an eye out for the deals and you can find some good deals and the quality of the items in here are usually very good. I am a big fan of their meat and their sausage is pretty good, as well. All in all, I would give this location of The Fresh Market five stars. read more

Mmmmmm I love The Fresh Market. It smells wonderful inside. In the autumn the foyer smells like cinnamon but the store always smells good. It reminds me of the markets we would go to when I lived in Germany. I can't not give TFM five stars. I would love to only give them two because the store is filled with food I can't eat. All the pastries. All the European chocolate. At Christmas it is the worst because of all the German Christmas food (or at least all the treats I remember getting in Germany). Tonight we came in an hour before closing. It was blissfully quiet and I could just walk about sniffing the air like the weirdo I am. We have always had really wonderful experiences with the associates in the shop. People seem to enjoy their jobs and enjoy working with you. I have been going to this store for over 2 months now and I absolutely fell in love with this European style store. The atmosphere and the environment of this market is amazing here. I love going grocery shopping here. This place has fresh produce from meat to vegetables to blossoming fresh flowers. I had a chance to buy their aloe plant and also had chance to get a closer look at their products. Their coffee collection is just woow [idk how to put it in words]. The smell of that particular area just makes you wanna drink the coffee right then and there..lol. I bought their vanilla creme brulee coffee anndd lemme tell you from a coffee lover's perspective, you can get a sense of how this coffee tastes just by its aromatic smell when you open the package, I fell in lovvve with this coffee. Next up, their lobster mac n cheese. Im not a fan of mac n cheese but oh my gawdd im in love with their lobster thingy. Another amazing product is Texas Caviar, this shit is just fabulous. I eat this caviar with their garlic and parsley italian Bruschetta toast. It is a mind blowing party in my mouth. :D Each time I visit this store, its a totally different experience. On top of all this, they have an amazing and beautiful staff who is always ready to help you. Also, you get a 10% discount if you show your UF ID at the register each visit, who doesn't want that. Terrible service. I ordered a turkey and standing rib roast on Saturday before Thanksgiving. I went to the market on Monday and asked if I needed to bring a cooler, since I live an hour away. The lady that was in charge of the pre-orders said no , they put them in coolers. So... I left and did my other shopping, and did not buy a cooler since she said it was going to be provided. I showed up later and did all my grocery shopping at fresh market which is more expensive than other places, but at least it was all in one place and my last stop. I made the turkey and roast pick up the last stop in the market and... SURPRISE!!!! They did not come in a cooler. It was a different lady that was working, and It took a long time for them to "find" my items. When I asked about the cooler she said the premade meals come in coolers but not the pre ordered meats. She asked who told me that and I told her the clerk that was working an hour ago. She came back with someone who looked like a manager, and they apologize but refused to give me any kind of cooler in which to take the meat home. He stated he could give me 2 bags of ice and that was it. When I went to check out I grabbed one of their expensive cooler bags and the "manager" showed back up and offered me a FM grocery bag. I told him I was putting the meat in the $10 cooler bag, and he could comp that since I was misled about the meat cooler situation. He stated "I can't do that" and said he was sorry. REALLY???? I went there and spent $350.00 and he couldn't even comp a $10 cooler bag. I easily could have picked one up on my previous stop since I had checked with them earlier to see if I needed one. Fresh market wasn't so fresh. I bought wings from the hot counter for lunch they were dried out and salty. I also got Fresh squeezed orange juice it was unfortunately sour. I love the fresh market! It's a ~fancier~ grocery store experience (but not as pretentious as Whole Foods) where everyone is extremely nice and helpful. The prices are shocking sometimes and can definitely be $2-$3 higher per ITEM compared to Whole Foods and Publix. But when there's a sale on certain items, you can usually find a decent deal. I come to fresh market for 3 things mainly-the bulk flavored coffee, sourdough bread, and the pastries (scones and cheesecakes are exceptionally delicious). read more

The Fresh Market is everything you would expect from an upscale grocery store. Organic selections, fresh food, and higher prices. It is a good Whole Foods replacement for the Millhopper area. Given that we have a Trader Joe's opening soon out on Archer Road I have expected Fresh Market to step up their game, but alas, that's failed to happen yet. Fresh Market could be wonderful but they are really lacking in a few areas: 1) They have the nasty habit of getting a product in, say tea for example, having it a few weeks, then it's gone. I guess they're trying different things to see what sells, but it's vexing that once you find something you like it is quickly discontinued. Also, I've been told that they have little say in what comes in as headquarters makes those calls. 2) The meat/poultry/seafood counter, despite being massive, at times has only two people working at it--at least once I saw only one poor kid working behind it. None of the staff seem to know a lot about meat or seafood. I've asked in example for a Kansas City strip steak and the dude had no clue what I meant. I've also been given turkey instead of chicken once! Seriously. I had requested a special cut and apparently the kid got the wrong bird in the back. 3) The deli offerings are unimpressive by Whole Foods' standards. Also, they often have cheese for sale very close to its sell-by date. 4) The bakery . . . oh, the poor bakery. They bake very little on-site, a friend who used to work there told me. Only the lemon bars and a couple other things are made from scratch at that location. The rest is trucked in, either totally finished and ready to sell or as frozen dough to bake and then sell. So . . . Fresh Market? Well, not really: more like baked goods from the frozen foods section. There is some good here: they do have good produce overall and they carry some hard-to-find canned and bottled products. The wine selection is in fact impressive. The store is kept neat and clean, as Adriann J. claims, and the environment is exactly what all the soccer moms who shop there expect--although this may be what allows the quality and service to slide in places and get away with it. There's also one kid at the deli who is super nice and tries really hard. I'd love to see them let him run the store because it seems those in command are perfectly happy with the store's--and chain's--flaws. read more

4 stars, even though I sincerely believe in my rotten lil' heart that it's an over-rating. Still though, 3 stars is unfairly low and 3.5 might give you the idea that the store is grubby or something. Believe me, this place is CLEAN. Not a foul smell to be smelled or a smudge mark anywhere in sight. So why am I begrudging them 4 stars? Because their pastries are stale (the cranberry-orange scone I bought fell apart in my mouth--in the BAD way), the sushi, for all its pomp and show, is the same stuff that Publix serves, and actually, most of their offerings can be found at Publix for significantly less. Fresh Market is very fortunate that they have some exclusive items to sell. If I could find Fage yougurt somewhere else in town, I'd probably never shop here. Uppercrust and Wards have nothing to fear from this place. They can't even come close to Uppercrust's quality in baking, and there's room for Fresh Market and Ward's to co-exist. After all, there's more than ten Publix stores throughout Gainesville with more to come, and even Winn Dixie is still hanging in there. (Now I'm suddenly jonesing for a little 4 oz. cup of their coffee with organic creamer and turbinado. Accursed description!) EDIT: Okay, so now I'm back with foot-in-mouth and hat in hand. I went here today, bought two cups of Fage and went back to work ... and klutz that I am, I dropped one and burst it. It is an overall very good shopping experience, but it does lack some of the more cost conscientious shopping experience. A 3 star rating is too low, but 4 is too high, I need a 3.7 option. I will go 4 because as far as Gainesville goes, this is better than other alternatives. It's a nice store as far as cleanliness & customer service goes. It is certainly WAY better than the Gainesville Trader Joe's which consists of some fruit and the rest is frozen or boxed food...gross. Fresh Market has a decent selection of fruits and veggies, as well as meats/seafood. They also have a deli with pre-made food if you're in a hurry, good sushi, and a small salad bar. I do also get my biodegradable sponges here. Other than that, there's a pretty big pre-made sugar area (unnecessary in size compared to the size of the store being that it's a "health food store"). There are also 2 aisles of boxed food, a bunch of frozen food and a large way overpriced wine section. I get my wine else where in town, this store tags an extra $5+ on retail cost which is bs in my opinion. So, overall it's just OK...me personally, I want a Whole Foods in Gainesville, it's a MUCH BETTER store!!! read more

This is a must go place for BBQ. I always get steaks, bacon, and seafood over there. They are fresh and good quality. However, their chicken has a wired texture, it is like rubber(did not over cook/ under). They also have pretty good coleslaw and potato salad. read more

It is $19.99 for a standard round cake that will feed about 8-10 people. Our favorite is the Chantilly that is topped with an assortment of colorful fruit. The outside is whipped cream (as opposed to gross butter cream), and the inside is very fluffy. It's a great, lighter cake option. I originally wanted to try Upper Crust next door, but they weren't open on a Sunday. I'm now glad they weren't! read more

This place is super expensive. They have some cool specialty items, like chocolates, wine, ready made bakery items and butcher items. The regular groceries are a complete rip off! If you just need a normal loaf of bread or a jar of mayo, go across the street to publix!! That being said, they do have this amazing sale every Tuesday. It's called $2.99 Tuesday... ground beef and ground chicken on sale for $2.99 per pound. It gets super busy on these days, so be prepared to wait... but I think it's worth it! Been going here for a solid year or so. We have now ventured into the hot/cold cases and have discovered a new way to picnic. Sometimes in the "salads" and "hot food" you dont get quality tasty eats, you get bland fakery that is there for lazy people to pass off as their own at office parties or as a fast way to get dinner on the table. There is many a child with a leg quarter from a rotisserie, and a dab of potato salad that wishes their mum had just taken an hour to cook real food. Fresh Market isnt that type of disappointment. They have cold salmon with dill, Sesame noodles, greek salad (with huge hunks of artichoke and feta), fresh sandwiches with tons of fillings, and about a dozen other cold salads and gourmet delights. The "hot" foods you can get are rotisserie chickens (white wine herb, lemon rosemary, butter garlic, Barbecue, Teriyaki ginger, and Thyme or Honey) Salmon (bourbon, teriyaki, or white wine), Baby Back Ribs, Wings (Buffalo, Chipotle Bacon BBQ, Honey Roasted Garlic, Natural Flavor, Smokey BBQ, Sweet Red Chili, Teriyaki or Hot Sauce) They also have deli meats, cheeses, Sushi (made there), packaged salads, dumplings, soup, knishes, sandwiches and wraps. Our Personal Favorites. The Seafood Salad, The fried chicken (in a bucket!), The Thai Chicken salad (chunks of breaded chicken with a sweet ginger chili sauce), and The Sesame Teriyaki Wings. We get a few containers and have a car picnic...they also have individual cold bottles of every kind of root beer, ginger ale, and cream soda. It pains me to give this place 4 stars and not 5, but I'll explain why. First off, I love Fresh Market and do most of my shopping here. Several of their employees know me by name (they should, I'm there practically every other day), and one of my friends works there. That said, I love the layout, I love how fresh and appetizing everything looks (Publix seems bland and old school compared to your store), I love the cleanliness, and I love (for the most part) the customer service (with the rare exception of one or two employees you hope don't get to you first to "help" you). Here's what I wish Fresh Market did better: 1. Rotate the stuff in the prepared foods section. Why always the same stuff? I remember Whole Foods would constantly have new stuff in their prepared foods section. Always always always the same here. Maybe one thing changes every week or two. Boring. 2. Appeal more to the intellectual side. Bring in some technology, some knowledge. We're a smart community, how about you tickle our brains a bit? 3. Do something to liven up the wine experience. I know you have girls who try and sell customers specific wines, but you've got a decent selection of wine but no one to offer me help like they do next door at Dorn's. 4. Bring in more items that cater to the athletes among us. You carry the Clif protein bars and stuff, but how about more sports drinks? Electrolyte stuff? Things for cyclists? Please? Only draw back is USDA Choice beef-- no place to buy Prime at all. However still a much better option than going to Ward's. Just opened up on November 29, 2006!!! So when you first arrive, Fresh Market is not as big as it looks. I liked that they had a very large selection of fruits and vegetables. They also have some very nice seafoods and meats, along with some prepared items (pre-made chicken pot pie, other pastries, burger, etc) I ordered some of their Chicken sausage and it is pretty darn good :-) Then they have a good selection of prepared foods (cheese tortellini salad, wild rice salad, various paninis, chicken tender, various BBQ'd meats, Rotisserie Chicken, Sushi and the list goes on and on). So far everyone from the prepared foods sections turned out to be very tasty. Fresh Market also has a selection of cheese, wine and beer, and dry goods. They do have a little section that has various types of nuts and trail mixes, which is interesting and a section for sweets. The other thing that I thought was great was you can make fresh peanut or almond butter! For those of you who have never had it fresh, you need to try it. YUM! So far I don't really have any complaints and I haven't heard any from the people around town, it is definently a welcome addition to Gainesville! Ok I lied. I went back for their rotisserie dinner. Whole chicken and two sides with corn bread. The sides they offered with the deal were either not available, or at the end of the line, if not past the end. I asked if I could pick from their other sides and was told yes, but instead of a pound I could get 3/4 of a pound. Fine, whatever. The lady helping me wasn't nice but wasn't rude. However, the gentleman who was helping my girlfriend pick the sides was rude. He showed clear irritation with her from the beginning. She asked to sample the succotash but I guess he wasn't listening because he started to fill a container. When she stopped him and said she just wanted to try it he didn't say anything, gave her a look, and handed her a sample cup. What is with these people? If you don't like your job or dealing with the public, quit! The food was fine, not great, and the service was terrible. I guess I should expect this going forward. read more

While I don't shop here all the time (I would be broke) They do have amazingly fresh and excellent looking produce. They also do have some good sales from time to time. Tuesday is $2.99/lb ground chuck day. While we love Lucky's. Fresh Market is by far the best ambiance food store in Gainesville. They have a great meat department, deli, huge cheese selection (not as big as Lucky's but very good) and an excellent bakery. Probably the best food store backery in Gainesville. read more

I've given Fresh Market a plethora of chances and remain pretty unimpressed. This is place you shop at for convenience because you're either near by or because they have a specialty item you can't acquire elsewhere in town. But as a mostly vegetarian who loves good, fresh food, I would rather go to a farmer's market or Ward's or Trader Joe's or Publix. Their deli macaroni salad was drowning in sour cream, their olive bar leaves much to be desired, and I'm indifferent to most of their "fresh" sandwiches. Most of the things that are good there, I can simply get for cheaper - and sometimes better quality - elsewhere, so it just doesn't make sense for me to stop in. Moreover, their sales and specials don't exactly wow the cheapskate within me. However, everyone that works there is super nice! I love me some Fresh Market! Despite what people may think you can get out of here without spending alot of money. If you want to shop at a store that isn't loaded with processed crap it's totally worth it. The meat case is just that; an actual meat case (not cuts of meat Saran wrapped for god knows how long). They carry alot of items you can't find at publix so if you like to cook, even just a little, it's worth the occasional stop. I find the smaller sized store less overwhelming and a way to avoid sifting through a bunch of junk food to get to the real stuff. Don't buy household items here and save food items like frozen dinners, eggs, and milk for publix. I also like their prepared snacks and meal items. The Fresh Market has been one of my favorite grocers in the Gainesville area since they first opened their doors. The company does advertise and seem to take pride in being a more upscale specialty store rather than your everyday one-stop shop for the typical everyday pantry and kitchen needs and TFM products and prices definitely reflect this. TFM excels in a variety of areas/departments that I rarely find all in one place and that is what keeps me coming back. CONDENSED REVIEW PROS- the produce is fresh, the sushi never smells fishy (and i am picky!), great kombucha selection as far as brands and great wine selection CONS- some items come and go quickly never to be restocked as part of their reg inventory which makes me sad when i find a tea or something I really like. Certain items that are more common could stand to be cheaper.. but convince has a price. Also they close earlier than some other grocers in town but I think just about everything in TFM plaza closes pretty early.. EXTENDED- A large portion of the right side of the store is dedicated to their produce which always looks amazing, stays fresh long, taste great, some is even local. Sometimes they will have specials but for the most part you are going to pay for the great quality. Also by the produce are the floral arrangements and plants, neither have ever let me down when I need something last minute :) The backwall is the meat and seafood department. Pretty much everything is in display cases, well labeled, not prepackage. The center of the store is a "floating" deli counter (best way to put it..) This area has a lot of prepared foods to order as well as deli meats, sushi and a Large selection of cheeses. The sushi here is always fresh. Maybe I'm really lucky here and not always elsewhere but I honestly prefer grabbing an easy Fresh sushi roll or bowl togo at TFM than risk getting smelly fish like I seem to end up with far too often at local Gainesville sushi places. Also its worth noting that the sushi chefs here at so accomodating and very pleasent to customers!! The rest of the store has a wine nook corner (usually has tasting going on to promote a few bottles), a sweets counter (not my thing but the carrrot cake isn't bad), a huge variety of specialty drinks such as teas, fizzy fruit sodas, a whole separate cooler with different brands and flavora of kombucha--love it, several isles with specialty pantry items, and then pay by the pound bins of candies, nuts, snacks etc. The vibe of the store is usually very relaxed and the lighting is dimmer than a supermarket so great enviroment for those who are migraine prone! The only thing that prevents me from giving this 5 stars is simply for the store hours and the general higher cost of items. It's worth the extra trip from your usual grocery store visit. This is NOT your average grocery shopping trip - you don't buy paper towels here. You do buy the best sushi, the best chicken wings and great pastries and meats however! I frequent this place for lunch and their build your own salad bar (weighed at register during checkout). Their deli is to die for. Paninis are a favorite! Ask for half the size - they're huge! Flowers are so fresh and last much, much longer than Publix or other grocery store flowers. My boyfriend loves getting me roses/flowers from here for me. Hehe, : ) Sushi rolls can be custom made - just ASK! Wings are amazing, but buy earlier in the day to avoid the caramelized wing sauce getting too thick. Meat counter guys are great and knowledgeable. Ask them anything! All pre-made items come with instructions of how to cook. Check-out staff is nice and speedy. Not your one-stop shop but wanting to impress guests or splurge on dinner, this is the place to go. read more

Let's start with the produce, shall we? Pretty good selection, lots of organic choices, not too unreasonably priced. Found a good deal on berries. Ok, now let's move onto breads. Wow... jalapeno cheese rolls? I'll take it. Sourdough garlic bread? Toss that in the cart too. Raisin bread? Yum, but we're not made of money. So many choices and everything looks fresh and delicious!! A tad on the pricey side, but I'm a bread lover so I'll cave. Ok... now let's move onto....Wow, where'd the store go? It just disappeared. Fruit, bread... now we are left with two aisles of boxed food and one small row of freezers. Whose idea was it to make the first half of the store a bunch of bins with candy? How many varieties of chocolate M&M's does one store need? They need to give the bulk candy the boot and put in some FOOD. I'd rather have more than one choice in spaghetti sauce than 18 choices in licorice. I'll go back for those jalapeno cheese rolls though. You got me there. read more
