I live just down the road from the friendship and have frequently gone in there since moving to the area. however today while walking tother shop with my girlfriend a group of students in the beer garden started spraying us with water guns. My girlfriend has a sprained ankle and move quickly so despite us telling them to stop, they carried on. we went inside to complain and were told they couldn't do anything as nobody had seen it and they wouldn't have done it on purpose (how you spray someone with a water gun for that long unintentionally ill never know). After going to the shops, so annoyed at this point didn't even buy anything and just wanted to go home, they began to spray us and followed us home spraying us and shouting insults at us, again, my girlfriend can't walk fast as she has a sprained ankle, so we had to deal with it until I snatched the gun off the idiot. I went in to explain the situation to the manager again, but at this point it was made abundantly clear they couldn't care less. "well it is warm, just deal with it" "its not a big deal" were the replies from the staff. we won't be returning again and will be making a point to tell everybody we know who frequents it about how little the staff care about customer complaints. don't go unless you like drunken, idiotic students who don't care about ruining your day, or staff who clearly couldn't care less either. read more

This one is a really popular pub located in the student area in Manchester. Here you will find a mix of students and locals, the Friendship has a relaxed atmosphere. Has a big range of beers and excellent ales. Prices are really reasonable for the area. Food is nothing to write home about but not bad . There are loads of places to sit and staff are really friendly and accommodating. There is a large outside seating area for the summer, and in the winter they have heaters to keep your little mits warm! read more

I'm reviewing this as a non student/never been a student in Manchester. This place holds a lot of favour with people but I'm just not having it. I hear a lot of fuss about their malaysian food but I thought it was a tad rubbish. Not only did it hover over the 8 quid mark..it tasted and looked like weatherspoons. Now that's ok for 5 quid with a pint...but not at these prices. It cost 26 quid for two mains and two drinks last night.... in a scruffy pub!! Not impressed. I love pub food but it has to be priced correctly. The only reason it gets three stars is for the garden and screens. Best Features: Lots of screens for footy, including behind the bar. My first visit to this pub was towards the end of my first year at university. I was shocked and surprised to see 'real people' in this pub after a year spent drinking in pubs down the Oxford Road and clubbing at 5th Ave and 42s. I'd kind of forgotten what old men looked like. However, as Rob points out, it does feel quite segregated. I always get the impression that the old Hydes-supping men are thinking, "why don't those horrible students go and drink in a Scream bar and leave us with the only real pub we've got left in Fallowfield?" Aside from this, the atmosphere is good, there are plenty of seats including numerous wooden picnic tables which fill up quickly on a summer's day. However, I'm dubious about the Chinese/Japanese food they advertised on huge banners outside. I'd be more likely to pop over for a pint after eating at the noodle bar fusion across the road. read more

In all my days of Withington and Fallowfield livin', there was one place to watch the football: the Friendship. Its a big ol' pub with a load of seating, aranged so you can sit in a group and everyone can see the screen. It's a match--day destination for everyone around, meaning the atmosphere is really great, though when Man U won something big once, the place went mental and there was a lot of broken glass around (from excited people jumping, not from angry people throwing) The drinks here are bog standard pub fae. Don't be expecting a margarita or a posh Sancerre. Get a pint of Harp, £1.90, and watch the game. One awesome thing about the Friendship is the Chinese food offered here, namely the salt and pepper chips. They are the perfect accompaniment to a lager and the game, and when I run a pub, I'll serve s&p chips allll day long. Occasionally in the Summer, they have BBQs here on the decking, which are always fun. The decking is a great place to sit in the sun, as you can watch the (student) world go by. One of my fave Fallowfield drinkeries, I still make the bus-journey out if it's mooted for a meet-up. read more

Oh Friendship, how I love thee. I was once warned that when the sun started to come out, I would start spending all my days and nights in the beer garden of this pub. Thankfully the sun doesn't seem to be coming out that much these days, else I could definitely see that prophecy becoming realised! The beer garden of this place is just brilliant. It's huge for starters, extending from the front of the pub right round to the back with big round wooden tables. My favourite afternoon so far this Summer was spent sipping Crabbie's ginger beer (schwing!) whilst basking in the sunshine with some friends - afternoon delight indeed. I've enjoyed the Friendship for all sorts of occasions, from sitting quietly in the corner doing some uni work to taking my mum out to lunch. Which reminds me - great food selection. There are two menus, which I find quite exciting: one for traditional pub food, and one with scrummy Thai/Malaysian alternatives. All at super prices too, for example you can enjoy a brie and cranberry tortilla wrap with chips AND onion rings for under a fiver, amazing right? I haven't quite got my head around the drink pricing yet though. Some beverages seem really reasonable, such as the aforementioned £2 lager, whilst others seem strangely overpriced, having to pay £1.50 for a pint of lime and soda compared to the 40p I would pay at Weatherspoon's for example. There is a good selection of drinks however. They sell Crabbie's, which obviously gets my thumbs up from the word go, but there are also a number of lagers I'd never heard of before, which I can't wait to try. The Friendship does get very popular when there are football matches on, and for this reason I tend to avoid it at this time, and leave the flocking masses of footie fans to themselves. I'd rather enjoy my drink without someone screaming down my earhole, if you'll excuse the pessimism. This place gets 5* because it has everything I would expect from a decent English pub, plus a bit more. read more

Situated on the edge of Fallowfield, The Friendship Inn is extremely hard to miss. Tall and imposing, and popular with both students and locals, this pub offers an experience that has more in common with the traditional English pub than most of its rivals in the area; you would be hard pressed to find a loyalty or yellow card here, and a distinct lack of music works wonders when all I want is a quiet pint with friends. The atmosphere is warm and the imitation leather plentiful, with a large outdoor seating area for when it gets too busy inside. I think one reason for its popularity is that whoever owns the pub has hit upon the rather excellent idea of showing two different football matches at once. It may be that they are not the only pub to offer this type of ingenious media saturation but it is certainly the first pub in which I have been that does so, making it a better option than the neighbouring pubs for watching sport in. To tell you the truth, I can't for the life of me remember how much the prices are. When I last went in on New Year's Eve it was either just over or just under a fiver for two pints of Harp (please don't judge me on my choice of lager). Anyway, you get the point. It is not extortionate. I also have no idea whether or not they serve food seeing as there is a kebab shop over the road. I do however remember being rather struck by their offer of, "Buy two glasses of house wine and get the rest of the bottle free". A symbol of binge drink Britain or a brilliant advertising strategy; make of it what you will. This is Manchester after all. There are, however, a few stairs to navigate up to the front door which, for the very lazy like me, is a nuisance. They do, however, lend the pub an impressive air when looked at head on. In all honesty,The Friendship is a pretty standard pub, with decent prices and a decent atmosphere. It is what it is. If you're after Baa Bar or Font then you would find this place infinitely boring but as a pub and a place to have a quiet pint then the Friendship really is fine. read more

This is one of the only real British pubs in the area, well equipped with the perfectly poured Guinness and screening of football matches, It really is heartwarming to find a real old fashioned pub in amongst the student bars and clubs. The real locals (born & bred types) hang on to their dear faithful hangout by indulging the students a share of this classic purveyor of yeasty pots to guzzle! The space inside is large enough to welcome all ages (legally) and class of drinkers - although if you are not used to the British vigour expressed when watching a football match, the I would steer clear on in-season screening days at the weekend! Hydes is the main brewer here, but they have a fully stocked bar that nicely covers the wine & spirit lovers too! All in all a nice place to settle in for the night with a group of mates - especially if most of them are lads! read more

The Friendship is the only good old traditional pub in Fallow. It is an actual 'local' so attracts a mix of customers - students and normal people alike. I tend to avoid it when there's football on because it's crammed full of crazy boys/men enjoying the game and they don't appreciate casual watchers much but at other times, it's great for a quiet drink. The Sunday lunch is pretty good and the bottle of house wine goes down a treat. The outside seating is great as the weather starts to improve but get there relatively early to secure a table - it seems to go from empty to busy within about 5 minutes. Great atmosphere when it's full and there's usually a couple of odd local men wandering around which is entertaining. In Winter, it's warm and inviting, especially when they get the fire going. Plus there's even heaters outside so the smokers are taken care of. read more

One of Fallowfields finest establishments is a traditional style yet modern and up-to-date public house called The Freindship Inn. Its got all the characteristics of a classic pub, including locals, ales, football and peanuts. But its also got some classy modern touches such as posh crisps, european beers and a Chinese menu. One of my favourite aspects of The Freindship is that it shows two football matches simultaneously if there are two on. This is good if you want to keep an eye on both, or if you support a different team to your freinds. Its also got a great quiz, though the quiz master is a grumpy sod, but this kind of adds to the experience in an unusual way. The beers are cheap, with a Kalt lager available for £2, and ales even cheaper. The ales are mainly Hydes, a local brewer, which is another nice touch. On the whole, a great pub. read more

The Friendship is one of my favourite pubs in Manchester. I have many hazy memories of summer days spent sitting in the beer garden, drinking pints of ice cold cider. It's one of the best places I've found to watch football although it can get a bit lairy if there are opposing fans watching the same match. It's a huge pub but on match days it can be very difficult to get a seat. My advice is to get there early, set up camp and don't relinquish your seat to anyone! Prices are fairly reasonable for the location and they have a great selection of lagers, ciders and real ales. It could do with a bit of a facelift but, to be honest, that's part of the charm! read more

Does this pub have the best beer garden in Fallowfield? Well, I think so, and plenty of others must do too, as it's always packed on a hot day! The reason for this particular garden's brilliance, other than the sheer size of it, is that it offers drinkers a great view of Wilmslow Road. So it's perfect for people watching! The pub itself is pretty good, too! Although located in the heart of studentville, The Friendship is beloved by drinkers of all ages. It's a pretty big place with TVs showing all the big matches, a great selection of Hydes and guest ales to choose from and really friendly bar staff. The prices are great, too. I used to be fond of this place many moons ago. True it is the only pub in Fallowfield where the locals can and do tend to drink and the Hydes Bitter is quality...but it's not the best place to be when the football is on, which in this day-and-age seems to be all the time. For me it gets far too tense when there's supporters of opposing teams watching the same match; I've seen a few nasty arguments develop. The Friendship has been an important part of my life as a student, and that's because its a great student stomping ground but that doesn't mean it alienates the locals either. There is always a great atmosphere on match day and good outdoor areas for smoking/relaxing on sunny days and the bar staff have never been anything short of pleasant. Feels like a typical local pub when u first walk in, with the older locals hanging round the bar, but turn the corner to find a wide open space with large tables and plently large flatscreens for watching sport! Good place to go if meeting with a large group of friends or wanting to watch a match with a good pub atmosphere. Didnt try any food but it looked like decent enough pub food and there seemed to be a few good combo food and drink deals on. Plenty of space, inside and out, the Friendship is a great place for a cosy beer in the winter or a summer's evening on the benches outside. The staff are great and welcoming of students, the clientele is more mixed than you'd expect and you get lots of locals in especially around the football. The bar serves a good mix of beers and wines but there isn't a wide selection of anything in particular and they don't sell any good ciders. Perfect for an early evening drink or a quick pub lunch. I like this pub. There are lots of tables and chairs but it's still always busy because it's in the centre of the student village. There is a good selection of tasty ales. My only niggle is the massive TVs all over the place. This smacks more of a sports bar than a pub. (admittedly I don't like playing, watching, or even hearing about sports but I'm not against showing the big matches or whatever... just annoying having 5 big TVs on all the time distracting your friends while you're telling them amusing anecdotes about clowns) read more

The Friendship Inn is one pub in Fallowfield where local folk, and no I do not mean students, can drink and feel at ease. The drinks on offer are your normal options but the difference is that they are all done very well. I can't think of another pub that does Guinness quite so well. The décor is comfortable and relaxing, and the atmosphere welcoming. A good place to watch the footie if you happen to be in the area, though you should respect the local colours. Just up the road from me but worth the extra excursion for the big matches they show - the atmosphere can be pretty electric, if a little edgy at times. I take my father-in-law here when he makes the trip up from rural Norfolk: he loves it! The banter and ever so slight, swaggering atmosphere is a million miles away from his local with it's one occasional customer, old fish tank and warm ale. The landlord helped sort us out a table for a big game (which shall remain nameless) as he didn't really want to be standing throughout the game given his age - top marks for the help here. Good selection of Beer, Hydes being the main brewer here. They recently added an extension onto the pub almost doubling the sizeand it was already a pretty sizeable boozer. Similar in shape to Hardy's Well a mile or so up Wilmslow Road, this is a heavy chunk of a pub - not your mini bar A3 retail unit carved into the ground floor of an office block. Busy throughout the year as populated by both locals (rare for Fallowfield) and students who seemingly get on like a house on fire. read more
