I inherited a nearly 70-year-old hutch, built by my grandfather from scrap lumber and painted by his artist friend, from my parents. When we moved from LA to Spokane it was badly damaged by the careless moving company.(see my review). For months it remained in our garage in three pieces. Then I found the Furniture Doctors next door in Idaho. I took the hutch to them and after examining it, they assured me it could be completely restored. Some 6 months later they delivered it to our house in pristine condition. The top of the hutch had been broken off and they restored it seamlessly, including a missing chunk that I defy anyone to pick out now. The care and craftmanship of the work was amazing. My wife rescued her family icebox from storage out in an old shop building. I had intended to do a restoration myself but because of the family history (It was bought new, most likely in the early 1900s) I felt it needed some expert attention. We had spotted The Furniture Doctors on a local TV add and visited them to discuss the project. They showed excitement about tackling the project and it was easy to see their passion for this specialized kind of work. My wife requested an antiqued crackle finish and color that would highlight the way she and her siblings remembered it as opposed to a natural wood stain and finish. The staff handled it with loving care and even reproduced one of the decorative pieces that was missing. It turned out wonderfully and is on display in our dining room and is a great conversation piece. We are so thankful to the great staff for their intricate surgery on this special patient! read more

I'm kind of surprised no one else has reviewed this business. They specialize in repairing, refinishing and restoring furniture, especially antiques, including that which is damaged by moving, water and fire. They even do upholstery and re-caning, and yes, they do handle insurance claims. I bought a jewelry box from an inexperienced seller on eBay. It was collectible prior to being shipped, but the seller basically dropped it into a box, no padding, no protection, and mailed it to me. I'm kind of surprised the box didn't break, but it was heavily scratched, dented and just blech. Worst part is, it's a black box with a specific lacquer, and lacquer is painfully difficult to match. They spent far longer on this box than they should have, probably putting in more work than I actually paid for. And wouldn't take more money for their services. They did a fabulous job, far better than I had expected. Knowledgable, experienced, and very trustworthy. read more

They did some light touch up work on the rest of the dresser and mirror and everything came out matching and looks brand new. A few days ago I called to find out what a chair would cost to have repaired, I just needed a ballpark. Most places that do hand canning will charge per the hole. Then possibly add-on material cost, or whatever extras are needed.They told me they had to look at it first. This is ludicrous that they could not give me a ballpark per hole price that they charge. I would have to drive two hours over there and then if it was too expensive turn around and drive home and not have my estimate. I guess they expect people that drive a long way just to leave it so they don't have to have that inconvenience. The girl on the phone was quite rude and didn't even want to discuss it. Seems to me that this is no way to do business. read more

I moved into our family's home and the kitchen dining set was in good shape except for the seat cushions, they were over 30 years old and needed to be redone. I took them into the Furniture Doctor and found they had a piece of fabric on hand that was large enough for all the chairs and was even better looking than I had imagined. I was quoted 3 weeks which was surprisingly a much shorter lead time than I had received from other companies. Most were 2 to 3 months out. I was delighted when I received a call that the cushions were completed after 2 weeks and they turned out beautiful. We brought the chairs in to have the cushions put on and they didn't charge extra which they certainly could have and I did expect it. This company's customer service rates an A+ all around. They are very friendly, knowledgeable and provide premium workmanship. read more

I highly recommend The Furniture Doctors. I'm so happy with their work; you can't event tell a repair has been made! Both arms on a dining room chair were broken off during our move. Jackie, the owner of the company, met with me to review the damage and explained what needed to be done. We had most of the parts, but a small piece was missing and they would need to fabricate a section of the arm. The work is seamless, and they matched the color and grain of the wood perfectly. The whole team was professional and helpful, from scheduling the appointment to delivery. They even delivered the chair a week earlier than the original estimated delivery date! This happened to us a while back when we had to get an estimate for our insurance company from the flood that ruined some of our furniture. We took furniture doctor at their word that they would look at our furniture after we took the time to load up 6 pieces of furniture for their FREE estimate. They looked at our furniture and gave us an estimate to repair the furniture. When the insurance company said the estimate was too high they wanted us to get another estimate. When we went to pick up our furniture they charged $600 for the estimate that was supposed to be free. The insurance company paid the $600 for the estimate to release our furniture. Not happy with this company at all if they treat all their customers this way it's a shame they're still in business. read more
