I live 90 mins away, but I have always gone to MSJ when in the Stroudsburg area visiting relatives…read more I started going in the 90s when the store was in a slightly different location on Main Street. It's a great store, with a very nice longtime owner, a helpful and friendly staff, and it has a relaxed atmosphere. MSJ is in a good neighborhood for lunch. They avoid all the mistakes that many other record stores make. I am speaking, of course of snotty, snobby, easily triggered owners/salespeople, or racks of lps too jammed or unpriced "bring to the counter for price"albums, etc. The records here are priced clearly and fairly, in my opinion*. *If you haven't shopped for records in recent years.. the demand for records has gone up drastically in recent years, and prices have gone up accordingly everywhere. You will not find 2008 (or 1974) prices on records in 2025. Especially on original pressings of the big classic rock albums by the top bands still played on the radio. I feel these guys are pretty fair, especially if you compare shopping at a store vs. shopping online, where you have to pay extra for shipping and really have nothing more than a vague hope that the LP will arrive in the stated condition. That aside. and back to the review... The more expensive items have sealed flaps, but you can open and inspect the vinyl at the counter. Less expensive records can be inspected at the rack if you do so carefully (i.e., not accidentally flinging the record across the store or getting yer greasy fingerprints 'em). Note: Record swapping will get you banned, you delinquents ;) - so don't be that person. Also, drinks are a no-no for understandable reasons. MSJ has tons of great vinyl in vg'+ or better condish. Rock is broken down alphabetically in various sections by price: $10 and up, $5, etc. There are boxes underneath these lp racks, but they request you get an employees help to access them. I never have time to crate dig, but I aspire to one day. I pick up a lot of records each visit, with very few exceptions (over 30 yrs) the albums and cds I've purchased have always been in VG+ or better, clean, etc. I have often traded in albums for store credit, and they are reasonable if you bring in decent records in nice condition that are not super common. I can't speak to how well they cover other genres since I mostly concentrate on rock - but there's a good amount of other stuff to peruse. If you go, I hope you find that gem you are looking for!

I appreciate the fact that they are adapting to stay in business, but I don't think they are going to be around for much longer. With the adapting they have morphed into something akin to Spencer's or Hot Topic. Catering to the entertainment portion in the name. Anything you can think of that can hold a picture or logo for a brand of a movie, tv show, or musical act, they most likely have it. They seem to put a huge emphasis on anime. I came in to browse the vinyl. However, there really wasn't a lot of them to go through. After a few minutes of browsing, I got tired of looking at things and decided it was time to leave.

Another member of our family walked in only to purchase something he can't find anywhere else. He's under 18 and was confronted by this worker and thrown out. Never approached Kim. Was only minding his own. Not only did she kick him out she called security to have the member she has an issue with tossed out of the mall completely. He wasn't even near her. He was somewhere else shopping. She then took it a step further and called the local police! My kids are now terrified to even go to that mall period not knowing if security will be called on them too. Thanks fye for not stepping in when Kim wasn't approached threatened or even spoken to. No one should have to worry if she's on shift and decide who is and isn't allowed to shop

There are times when streaming music is great or being able to travel with thousands of songs is the best choice. But there is a lost joy of putting on a record and listening first song to last song. It is the way that music was made to be heard. It's how that artist or band wanted you to hear it. Just listening, reading the liner notes, and looking at album art, it can be an activity all to itself. Gallery of Sound has a great selection of new, used, records and CDs. They have plenty of other music merch- rock t-shirts, stickers, posters, wall art, books and other music related stuff. Walking into the store is trip back to my youth. Now I will hop back into my car, plug in my phone and shuffle through my 2000+ songs on the ride home, thinking of which new-old album I will put on the turntable when I get home. There is a good time for all the different ways to listen to music.

This place is bigger than I expected. I didn't get to explore much because I was there mainly to see Mr. Batio perform and speak, but I was impressed by the size of the place, the selection of Dean Guitars, the CD/record section, and owner Wayne's "endless layway" plan (20% down and at least five bucks a week will hold your dream guitar indefinitely). I'll definitely be down here again when it's time to get my next Dean (or the Ron Asheton Signature Reverend) - which may be sometime in early 2011!

We came back a couple weeks later asked if he remembered us, he said yes and I said well you told us 250. he said I don't remember that, than proceed to text the owner having us wait an additional 30mins for him to offer us 225. So not only do you have to wait forever to be seen, they also take back their word and try to swindle you for lower prices. Also have their stuff is over priced.
