The Shirt Shop, I always thought was named Shirtz or something because that's what's on the label. Came here years ago after noticing their unique line of dress shirts/party shirts/unique patterned shirts right in front of the window. The shirts are everything from fancy to cool to hip. I got one! Woohoo. I got a Shirtz. Depending on your choice each shirt can cost 100-300+ Euros. Sizing can be limited at times. Meaning Men's 42+ (when I visited, I recalled the sizing for smaller than Men's size 40 was very limited). The boutique store is small in itself, literally just an aisle downstairs. Dressing room is upstairs, the other aisle spaced section, with some more but limited options like shorts, t-shirts, bags, etc... I thought the staff to be quite helpful, answered my questions on refund policy (not that I used it, but nothing wrong with inquiring), stock in sizing and customizing. All in all not a bad experience just to look.

Their stuff is not cheap for a student but is affordable if you have a normal job or if you save up a bit. And their sales are the best! While we have a few of Scotch & Soda's collection available in Vancouver, the selection is nothing compared to what's here in their home country and city. The main floor is the men's collection and the women's is upstairs, but on both floors, helpful staff are there to bring out sizes and get you a fitting room started. Very nice fall clothing, stuff that I could wear in Vancouver. Picked out a wool toggle jacket and a hoodie for myself.

I think the pricing is very fair, and the stepped built-in discounts definitely worked on me. I knocked my review down to stars because of how snobbish and rude the lady was that seemed to be the manager, or if she's not the manager, she was the one that seemed to be calling all the shots. Among other examples how rude she was throughout our time there, after placing 8 garments on the table to purchase and asking a few other questions, she seemed to be annoyed and impatiently asked "Do you want to buy these shirts or not?" The other two ladies were, in contrast, exceptional. We almost didn't make the purchase right at the end because of her. The entrepreneurs of joemerino should really replace her with someone that has more talent with customer service, especially if she's in a management position. Ask for customer satisfaction feedback with service to gather this data from customers. Other than, I love the shirts and infinite color options, and would only make one other recommendation. Since all the shirts are solid, lose the orange stripe that goes around one of the wrists. It's a gimmick, and no wearer is going to be proud of it. I was hesitant to make the purchase because of it. Stick with the pure and simple angle of simple, quality shirts with a wide range of colors.

So one day I just browse the nice stores in 'de negen straatjes' area in Amsterdam and enter the Carhartt Store. First off, the staff was super friendly, non of that typical standoffish behaviour like 'I am better than you' or 'you probably not going to buy anything so I don't think I'll bother'. So that was a nice start. The store is laid out very openly and it's easy to have a complete overview of the range of products they have. After a walk around I noticed a bag that I liked and took it of the shelve and walked around with it a bit to see how it felt carrying it. The sales assistant was very friendly and asked if he could help, perhaps remove the filling from the bag or show me a different colour. I explained that I was browsing around and wasn't ready to make a decision about buying anything that day. No problem. About two weeks later I came back for the bag. Same happy greeting and happy chitchat with the guy on taking care of the store that morning. I told him I had come back for the bag. He had to smile and said something like that once you have had it in your hands, your mind has been made up.... Again very helpful service with a smile and a joke, I love it when people have a sense of humour and dare to use it at their jobs! Again he offered to show me different colours and even pulled out a catalogue to show me models they didn't have in the store but were no trouble to order so I could have a look. My mind, like he had said had been made up the first time I saw the bag, so I opted no to all his offers and proceeded to payment. As a nice surprise the bag turned out to be 10 Euros cheaper than advertised. Though Carhartt is certainly not a cheap store, I believe the workmanship on their products is very nice and quite importantly the sales person made it a joy to part with my money.... Would certainly go back for other stuff (saw this really nice sweater, which I'm sure is out of season by now lol). Also if you find yourself in the 'negen straatjes' area, have take your time to look around, you'll find very nice shops there away from all the huge H&M's and Zara's....
