I'm a Central Islip high school school teacher that has been going to this establishment since 2016!!! Why has it taken me this long to write a review for this place has certainly been a lapse in judgment because, I gotta tell you, this is the kind of establishment that makes you feel absolutely welcomed and well-treated, and deserving of a great review. I'm greeted with a smile and even when they are hustling, they are never rude. What's more, in exactly ZERO places have I've been, from to time, met with the owner coming around with warm cookies as treat to their costumers just because! I mean, dude... that's master; I can't imagine walking away thinking, "gosh, I'll never come here again." Quite the contrary. All of my colleagues have them as a default "Go-To" establishment and I think you should too. Their food is the Bomb Diggity (and yes, that's a technical and professional description). Very tasty and just packed with goodness. Please support them by showing up. They are the place I can't wait to go to during those annoying days I gotta proctor for hours. Each time I have been here has been nothing less than wonderful experience.. The garage is a seriously hopping food establishment "old world cafeteria style" that offers a variety of just about everything. It's big, bright, spacious, (plenty of tables for in house eating) and comes with a very friendly and helpful staff. From the Tuna salad to the egg sandwich to the salads, they were perfect. Well stuffed sandwiches, always fresh. You can get anything here, Pizza, hot foods, colds foods and salads, fresh soups, and... they cater for the office. You can order one of their 'named' sandwiches or there is enough of a selection of meats, and salads to design your own. You step up to a counter where one of 25 people offer to help you. They defiantly get you in and out. You pick up your own beverage (hot or cold) and proceed to the cashier. Today, while I was having my egg sandwich they came by with a tray of cookies for dessert. In all my times at dinners and delicatessens, no one has ever offered my a cookie, and it was a really good oatmeal raisin cookie. I really need to come here more often... Brief update 7-7-2016: Today I finally purchased a "non-egg" sandwich. The chicken salad is outstanding.... Big chucks of chicken with some celery. I feel that the place is still a bit pricy for the food options there, however I'll reiterate that it's delicious. The manager and the staff were welcoming and made personal recommendations for the food. Called after 1 hr 15 minutes and was told the driver had left (no apology or other helpful information). He showed up another hour after that. Fries and slices of pizza were ice cold. Roast beef sandwich had only meat on it, no toppings (note to garage: if your menu selections include choices for extra cheese, extra lettuce, and extra tomatoes...that implies that the regular sandwich comes with them in the first place). I do not recommend ordering from this place, especially if you get delivery and don't have all day to wait for lunch. Horrible experience. read more

And if you think for one second your going to walk out of there with only one thing, guess again. No one would serve me soup. The place is generally divided into two sections: ready made food and made to order. The soup, however is in the made to order section, which works off slips submitted for sandwiches and wraps. Because of this, the employees in that section didn't pay any attention to the customers waiting there and only look at the submitted slips. After waiting there for 10 minutes and unable to get anyone's attention I went over to the ready made section. The employee there told me I needed to order soup in the other section, however. So after waiting a few more minutes I left without any food. If you want anything from the made to order section, be prepared to wait a long time. read more

The whole is less than the sum of the parts. Just discovered this place and have now tried it for two days in a row. Both times the service was exceedingly slow considering the number of staff and time of day (2 PM). Yesterday I had a hot pastrami with swiss on rye. This is a basic sandwich that any deli should nail every single time. Toss the rye in a toaster or on the grill, slice a pile of pastrami, top it with the cheese, drop it on the grill and cover for a few minutes. Stack it out, slap the brown deli mustard on and call it done. The best versions should have at least an inch of meat. This sandwich wasn't even close. It had maybe 5 slices of meat. Perhaps in North Dakota it would pass. Untoasted bread, unmelted swiss, good pastrami but skimpy and cold. A $6.00 Subway sandwich at best. All of this took about 10 minutes too. No records broken here. Today I chose a "Signature Sandwich" listed on their board. "The Continental" was hot roast beef with "melted" cheddar, and onions on a roll. $8.50. While waiting, I decided to add a Berry Protein smoothy for $4.95. Berries, yogurt, protein powder. The sandwich took so long I actually struck up a conversation with another patron. When it finally arrived and Iasked for the smoothy, surprise was not the reaction I was expecting. Apparently, smoothies are made by someone special. The person that delivered the shake shouted out the price to the staffer at the register. Payment is sort of like a cafeteria setup. The price, of course, was wrong at $5.95 "because of the added protein powder." Obviously, the staff had no clue what their menu stated. The signature sandwich was a major let down as well. Skimpy meat, no flavor, lousy bread. Today, I dined in. Everything in this place is sticky...seats, tables, countertops. I watched the staff "clean" a few tables while here. One guy used a dirty paper towel to wipe at select parts of selected tables. The next cleaner was a bit better but still cleaned only most of the visible crumbs. All in all, this place was disappointing. The only reason this place does well is because there is little or no competition and the bar is set pretty low. read more

I've had The Corvette with a chicken cutlet, ham, cheese and substitute honey mustard for the Russian dressing. It is consistently a great choice and the ingredients are of high quality. There are also great selections of hot food like the macaroni and cheese, sausage and peppers or kielbasa and sauerkraut. My business gets a catering order from the Garage every so often. This past week, we ordered a fairly large lunch catering order from the Garage. I just want to say that everything was handled perfectly. The food came at the predetermined time, the person who delivered the food helped set it all up, and the food itself was absolutely delicious. We had an assortment of sandwiches that were all very good, even the veggie eggplant sandwich was super tasty. We also got some fruit that tasted incredibly fresh.
