There's a stay of artists which is nice because it's perspective that leads you to find the piece meant for you. Of course I adored the Wyland 'Starry night " and Sea of Cortez. These pieces are spectacular. No pressure, just kind sharing of artist information. Recommend.

They don't allow photos so it's kind of ridiculous for me to describe what I saw but I'll give it a try. Best you go there yourself. Wyland himself is best known for his Whaling Wall murals and sea life conservation efforts. There was a thick glass coffee table supported by what seemed like a dolphin or whale base which I believe was by Wyland. There were two other types of animal sculptures that I found to be delightful: a large, almost life-sized metal dog with extra long legs and many smaller, very colorful animal pieces made with various found objects. One looked like it had a body part made using part of an ice cream cone. Art is meant to be seen and my descriptions can't possibly do them justice. Another artist, Oryan, does something called liquid fusion. It's quite a complicated process. I did take a picture of a poster about him, just not the actual art. Even if these works of art are out of your price range as they are mine, it's still fun to admire the talent of these artists.

Located next to Starbucks and…read moreacross from Base Camp Pizza, it's one of those places that's worth walking through even if you don't plan on buying anything. Think of it as an art gallery mixed with a modern gift shop, filled with thoughtfully curated home décor, unique keepsakes, and Tahoe-inspired finds. We were welcomed as we walked in, which was a nice touch considering how busy the store was. The candles are always my favorite, and I make it a point to check out their beautiful wood-carved Lake Tahoe maps and canvas artwork every year. They have a great selection of pieces that can add a little Tahoe charm and sophistication to your home. Everything feels intentionally selected, and despite fitting so much into the space, the store never feels cluttered or overwhelming. One of my favorite surprises this visit was their expanded hat selection. They had trendy designs, Smokey Bear hats, and national park-inspired apparel that stood out from the typical souvenir shop offerings. It felt like they had something for just about everyone while still staying true to the Tahoe vibe. I'll definitely be back for another candle, sticker, or hat. And one of these days, when the budget and wall space allow, I may finally bring home one of those wood-carved maps. If you're looking for a unique Tahoe gift--or something for yourself--this is absolutely a store worth stopping into.

A must see shop and my favorite souvenir from our trip. Everyone in the shop was very helpful and knowledgeable about the product. Prices are on the higher end but you absolutely get what you pay for. The only exception is the stickers and other mass produced products, those seemed to match the price of the art unnecessarily and frustrated the teen shopping with us.

November 22, 2014…read more Locals and folks driving by on HWY 395 need to stop and check this spot out. If you're like me you've been driving by for months and you've been wondering what is actually going on in there. Heck, the location has been a local coffee shop, and it's also been a flower shop more recently, so what is this year's offering in this space. It's art, it's local, and it's staffed by the artists. They're not paying anybody to staff the store, and so when you walk in you're going to meet one of the people that has created the work in the store. I really enjoyed it. For me, it was like talking to the wine maker about the wine he was making. Today I got to talk to Nancy Raven, and she was very easy to talk to, proud of the group of artists that were showing their work, and proud of her own work. As I walked in Nancy was sweeping the floor, and the shop was clean, organized and easy to walk through, not cluttered and dangerous. There is pottery in the store, mixed media, photographic work, wood work, and color pencil drawings. There is a lot of items that focus on the western experience, and so you'll see cowboys, horses, rusted cars, and wooden bowls. How are the prices? I thought they were very reasonable, and there was a wide range of price points. There were some consignment items, but I didn't look at them and can't comment on them. To conclude, this is a great spot to shop local, and well worth the stop.
