The George Hotel would be the ideal hotel for the standard long weekend in the country. With its' Tudor interior and restaurant style lay out I imagine a lavish full blooded country dinner at the end of a day spent traversing the South Downs would be the perfect way to get the most out of this place. I visited it recently in its' capacity as a pub and wasn't all that impressed. While the service was helpful and friendly enough they seem to have mistaken orange squash for orange juice and a paved yard with some tables for a patio garden. I'm quite willing to concede that I may have visited The George in the wrong way and that had I stayed there in its' doubtlessly lavish rooms I might have a very different take on things but the fact remains that as a pub this place doesn't really do anything to stand out. read more
...sadly, not a reflection of more glorious days gone by!! Used to frequent this place regularly some years ago, as it had the best Steak and Kidney puddings I've ever had. so many happy memories of The George. On a reflective return visit I found it no longer the establishment it used to be. The interior has been changed slightly, and the menu. massively..and not for the better....only my opinion. No more pudding!! Prices could be seen as a little high by some. Lunch menu indicates Starters from £6.50, Fish burger and chips = £15.00 and desserts £6 - £8.50. 'Tis true ...all things change.....!! Nice to see that the lovely fireplace has been retained....a highlight of the restaurant. That cheered me up.... Don't let this review put a visit ff.....go, see and review... read more
