The chips as side gave me something to munch on as I contemplated how best to tackle the mammoth stack of pulled corned beef and slaw. A firm squash down and centre cut worked well. Friendly atmosphere, live music, good beer and food made for a fun afternoon. Good selection of tasty beers brewed onsite! You can get a paddle of beer (four large tasters) for $15. These were not the small tasters I've had in the states. Live music the entire time we were there. Seemed there were a bunch of locals sitting around the table playing different instruments. I don't think they ever took a break. Food was great and reasonably priced. I had a T-bone with a tasty pepper gravy, along with salad and chips. It was very tasty. We were thing about getting dessert but the kitchen was closed by the time we were done. (They close for a little while between lunch and dinner) It was busy the entire time we were there. Fun atmosphere and good drinks and food makes the Commercial Hotel a great place to stop.

However, being vegetarian and not liking the sound of the vegetarian choice on the set menu (strawberry kebab?) I decided to opt for a dish from the a-la-carte. The dish was well presented but incredibly salty, like the lid had come off the salt or something. I had to drink several glasses of water to quench my thirst after eating the meal. The second problem is that I opted for a pudding from the set menu list as this was the only pudding menu presented to us. On receiving the bill the pudding I ate had been marked down at 5.99, although this price was not listed on the menu we received. Surely not listing prices on the menu is an issue for trading standards? I did not expect to receive the pudding at the set menu price as I did not opt for the set menu. However, I thought that 5.99 was very steep for sticky toffee pudding bringing my total 2 course lunch to over 17 pound. All in all not good value for money and I will not be returning.
