What most people need to realize, is the importance of building a relationship with the staff caring for your loved one. It is a team effort. This is a care facility. They cannot and should not be expected to give private duty nursing services. It is unrealistic for any facility to be expected to do this. You have to be willing to reach out to the staff and work with them. Come to them with concerns, but also realize a thank you goes a long way when you do this very hard work. I can't begin to thank the staff for the care dad received especially during his final days. I stayed with my dad to care for him and make sure he knew he was not alone. I believe that was my honor and duty, but this staff cared for me as well as my dad. The concern for my well being touched me to my core. I will not forget the compassion my father and I received by all the staff. The flower arrangement that was sent to the funeral home was so beautiful and very appreciated. Staff who became friends were there at the funeral home to support me and my family. Their concern did not stop as dad was taken from the facility. If you are looking for a facility to "team care" for your loved one, stop looking, the Lakes of Sylvania should be strongly considered. I will only refer folks to this facility.

The director, the nurses, the physical therapists, the chef, the cleaning department and various departments ALL provided the best of care possible. The communication which existed between Lakes of Sylvania and her family was also tremendous. Each day an updated Covid report was to be found in my email and a weekly video was posted to inform all families members of the events of the week. I was able the connect in person with the staff whenever I so desired. My dear one got the BEST of care and compassion from everyone within the walls of Lakes of Sylvania. I would give this campus my highest recomendation. I owe them my deepest gratitude.

There were some very caring…read morestaff, but they were stretched too thin trying to provide care for the patients needing rehabilitation and completing admissions and reviews. No one should Have to wait two hours for a pain pill or have to argue with staff to get their medications. No one attempted to engage my Dad in activities and left him In bed most of the time unless my sister or I was there to get him up. There were frequent mistakes with food orders and many times staff didn't know where to Find orders for the food or the wrong food, which my Father wouldn't eat, would be brought to him. We were only invited to one treatment team, and my sister and I have DPOAHC. My father was seen by physician at admission, but not while there after that. NP was contacted for orders, but didn't have physical contact with my Father. We were the advocates for our Father. We worry about those who don't have advocates. It was a pretty facility but we don't feel it warranted the 5 star quality service indicated by others.

I have worked at the facility for almost 3-1/2 years, and to say that I enjoy coming to work everyday is an understatement. When you have co-workers that are always there to help, lend a hand, someone to confide in, and treat you like a part of your family, it makes coming to work enjoyable. The best part of my job is the wonderful families that come through our doors. We get to understand all of the great times they have had together with all of the close interaction we have with them. It doesn't take long when we feel like part of their family. I interact with as many residents as possible everyday. I love listening to stories about the "good old days", their families, holidays, etc. I cannot say enough about Perrysburg Commons. A place where work doesn't seem like work, and you feel like you are a part of family.....

From the wide variety of social activities, to the nice layout of the apartments, to the dining room and food, they were happy there. It was hard for them to make this move after being so independent all their lives, but WPP allowed them to retain that sense of independence while benefitting from no longer needing to worry about cooking and being on their own. Once my grandma died, my grandpa lived four more years and seemed to feel like he was part of a caring community.

Staff turnover is VERY low which gives my parents a sense of stability and friendship. My blind father is not always the easiest man to get along with and the WPP staff interacts with him in a patient and understanding manner. It is not a huge establishment which makes it easy for an elderly person to navigate. Being only "assistant living", one never sees medical carts in the hallway which is nice. My sisters and I feel like we can call the front desk at anytime and be greeted with recognition and they are eager to answer questions or concerns we have. The staff is incredibly friendly. The dinning room's ambiance is one of an upscale restaurant. The waitstaff is wonderful. They have a nice variety of food. I 100% recommend WPP. If you are struggling finding a place for your parents I would consider touring. It is never easy moving a parent from their home to assistant living. There will ALWAYS be an uncomfortable period where they are sad or complain about the food or other residents wherever you go. Time spent there and relationships established change those unsettled feelings. The WPP staff work very hard to make that transition go smoothly. Remember a low turnover in staff is IMPORTANT! You want your parents surrounded by employees who like their job. Good luck and don't forget to stop by the kitchen and ask for a chocolate chip cookie!
