They focus on learning through play and also have additional enrichments like guest readers, a dentist that visits to talk about oral health, fire station trip, etc. My son is learning to write upper and lower case letters and numbers this year and is doing so well! They have a lovely outdoor playground and an indoor gym so the kids can run and play even in inclement weather. They really make learning fun and engaging for the kids and my son is so happy and excited to go to school each day. I would absolutely (and have!) recommended CFCNS to anyone with a preschool or pre-k aged child. I can't wait until my younger child can attend here as well!

Even now, I still see that many of the recent valedictorians of our Suffolk private high school are Christopher Academy alumni (our high school sends us the graduation mailer every year). Long story short- the curriculum, class size, and amazing teachers here laid a foundation for us all that put us ahead of our peers at our Suffolk private school, college & beyond. My parents STILL donate to this school 18 years later & do not donate a nickel to the previously mentioned school that we went to for middle/high school. My daughter is almost 8 months and started daycare this week. She came home with a raspy voice on…read moreMonday (was there from 9am-12pm) and it sounded like she's been screaming or crying but her day sheet said she did great. Tuesday, her voice got worse and I'm starting to worry. Keep in mind that I have been calling multiple times a day to see how she is doing and I'm always told she is doing great but what they tell me over the phone does not match her day sheet, activity wise. I have also been stoping by at least once a day and she's either already napping or about to go down for a nap (always in her crib). I gave them her daily schedule and they weren't following it but I figured, it's her first week and she's trying to adjust. Wednesday.. the drop off was so tough with her clinching onto me and just crying. I walked away and had this feeling that the daycare workers were not bothered by my little girls screams. I called an hr later and spoke to her teacher who said, everything was fine. I explained to her that I know my daughter has been crying and I just want to keep the communication open and honest so I need to know when she cries the most and how long does it take her to settle down after I leave. She agreed, however I got another "great day" sheet. Also, her feeding and sleeping were off, she was eating 1/4 of what she would have had at home and sleeping twice as much. Thursday.. I drop her off, she's screaming and crying like everyday. I walked out but decided to wait outside the room to see how they calm her down and long it takes (she can't see me). 10 min in, she is still crying and they are doing nothing other than telling her "it's ok". Finally her teacher picks her up which calms her down a little and takes her into another room where I can't see her so I left. I waited 45 min and went back in. I saw my little girl hyperventilating from crying all by herself in the foam pit while her teacher sat 2 feet away with the other 2 babies who are quiet, doing paperwork, like she can't hear my daughter. I waited a minute and nothing! I ran in to grab my baby and asked the teacher if this is what she does all day, her response "yes". I was livid! They had been lying to me from day one! Instead of helping her adjust to a new setting, they just let her cry until she can't cry anymore and put her in her crib to pass out. When I asked why I wasn't informed that my baby was crying all day, she responded with an attitude, "isn't this what she does at home". I don't know how someone so cold and disconnected ended up in childcare. I wish I was informed of the difficulties my baby was having so maybe I could do something to help with the transition. Needless to say, we are done with Kindercare!

This is a remarkable place for you little to grow, learn and socialize. I went here back in 1989 when I was18 months old and graduated kindergarten here. I can tell you I was well prepared for first grade and was able to make the transition smoothly. My child now is attending JKCC after having to sped her infant time in a local franchise school and it is a world of difference here than it was there. The growth and friendships she has formed in just a few short months is due to the amazing staff present at this school. It is a school not just a place to put your child. As a teacher this school was an easy choice to make knowing the curriculum was aligned with Edison's curriculum too. This means the students here will be ready and have the proper documentation of their levels when they attend public schools. This school is so amazing that I've had cousins attend and my nieces and nephews as well. Your child and family will be in great hands here. And I am so excited they are opening an infant room to so that I can expand my family without worry to find another school. I was surprised that everywhere on the internet, there were good reviews (this last one on Yelp wasn't there at the time). In addition to the messy situation in handling the health crisis, there are more important things to me. Maybe other small schools with substandard facilities (similar to Bamboo Shoots) also are facing similar problems with COVID19 --- although I am not sure how much you should try to get an admin person as confused as the poor Sylvia. However, not all schools are academically like this one. First of all, nothing too terrifying is going on. This is an average school providing mediocre education. I guess that other schools in the area (especially some underrated public schools) are on par with this one. The problem is that when I was taking my child to this school, I was expecting something better than the level of a bad public school. For instance, if it were comparable to a good public school, we would not be regretting our school choice. I thought this was an environment where my child would be academically challenged; provide the students with something stimulating at least some non-trivial level. That is, a place where 3,4,5-year-old children are treated with the appropriate attention (without exaggeration) and, importantly, not with indifference. These are the educational values that, in my view, should be embraced by a school for this age level. Unfortunately, Bamboo Shoots operates far away from any of these foundational education values. Importantly, all of the above are directly reflected in the child's happiness, intellectual and physical development, and overall growth. Thus, in this sense, Bamboo Shoots is not just academically mediocre, but rather a wrong choice a parent can make. I'm disappointed with this choice because, like every other, my child attends each class at school once (no second try, same as in other important things in life). When we made the school decision, we could have chosen another one from several other schools with a good reputation, such as the Genius Academy in Springfield. In retrospect, I regret not taking my kid somewhere else. You can't do much when it's too late.

The teachers and staff were constantly friendly and reassuring to this nagging first time mother who had a million questions and worries. I felt good leaving my baby with them and knew that she was happy and thriving. She was always happy to go to school and was happy when picked up . I was updated and kept informed about my child's progress in many different forms. I received a daily information sheet when she was young as well as a verbal update about daily life at pick up . As she got older there was a back to school night, organized social events(pre covid) and holiday events for me to be able to be involved as a parent. I was given opportunity's to speak with her teachers with parents teacher conferences twice a year to see how she was doing in more depth also . Everyone was always so nice . Once my child entered public school teachers complemented me on how ready and prepared she was for 1st grade with the knowledge of all the concepts she should have been introduced to. Those comments are what is prompting this review . I couldn't have done it without Bamboo Shoots ! While I did find some teachers to be nice, I found many to be fake nice. Smile at you but scream at the kids. Mind you the children are 3-5 years old. I believe they use times excessively for this age group, they use write ups excessively for this age group, they do not provide enough activities, and I felt they were always treating black boys harshly when I was around. They have one teacher I believe her name is Mary who was terrible to toddlers screamed at them from drop off to pick up. I stayed and caught marry yelling at my son as soon as she thought I left . Chastising babies as if they understand her logic. I heard her berating children. She also has a bluelivematters sticker (mind you I have never seen a Blue human) in a place with many black children and teachers which to me directly says black lives do not matter. I spoke to the director about the teachers and the use of 10 minute or more time outs on 3 year olds. Terrible way to treat little ppl. Pay more and go somewhere else.
