First and foremost, the teachers and staff are absolutely exceptional. My son was born with a complex medical condition that resulted in some challenges during the first year of his life, and I was very intentional about finding a childcare provider that could provide him with the level of personal attention, care, and understanding I was seeking. My concerns were quelled after my very first tour of The Britleys with Ms. Britney. After touring several other childcare centers in the area, it was immediately clear that The Britleys was in a class of its own. My son began at age one and just "graduated" at age five, while my daughter started at five months and attended until she was two. Throughout our years at The Britleys, there was very little teacher turnover, which allowed my children to develop deep and lasting bonds with their teachers. These teachers were not simply childcare providers, they became like family and played an integral role in my children's formative years. They took the time to truly know each of my children as individuals. They recognized their strengths, noticed the areas where they needed additional support, and worked alongside us to help them grow into confident, capable, and kind little people. As a parent, there is no greater gift than knowing that when you drop your children off each morning, they are not only safe, but genuinely loved and cared for. Second, the quality and breadth of the curriculum at The Britleys is truly unparalleled for this age group. My children have been exposed to an incredible range of subjects and experiences, and I have watched them develop a level of curiosity, knowledge, and confidence that is remarkable for their ages. Spanish and Mandarin are not simply occasional "special classes," instead language learning is thoughtfully integrated into their everyday activities and routines. They have weekly music and movement classes, art, and outdoor education, along with daily opportunities to get outside and explore the world around them. They take daily walks throughout the city to museums, parks, libraries, splash pads, and even the cherry blossoms during peak bloom. I also love the emphasis on practical life skills including learning to fold clothes, clean, cook, and participate in activities that teach them independence and responsibility in ways that feel natural and fun. My children have genuinely enjoyed all of it, and as a parent, I have absolutely reaped the benefits at home :) It has been so rewarding to watch them come home excited to tell me what they learned, try something new on their own, or proudly show me a skill they practiced at school. Lastly, what makes The Britleys so special is that they understand that educating a child is about so much more than academics. They focus on developing the whole child. From etiquette and cultural education to brain health, character formation, kindness, and emotional regulation, the children are taught how to navigate the world with confidence, compassion, and respect. They celebrate different cultures and holidays and help children develop an appreciation for the world and people around them. Most importantly, the focus is not simply on raising children who are academically prepared, but on helping shape responsible, thoughtful, kind human beings. That emphasis has meant so much to our family and is something I will always be grateful for. I wholeheartedly recommend The Britleys School and am so thankful for everything they have done for my children and our family. On paper, The Britleys School seems like a great environment for children to learn, grow and…read morethrive. In reality, my family's brief experience with the school was disheartening, reinforcing our greatest fears about raising a Black son in America. Shortly after our son began at The Britleys School, he started exhibiting challenges with hitting his peers and teachers. As his parents, we recognize this behavior is not ideal, and we worked with him at home to address, redirect, and correct it. While we were diligently working to help him navigate this behavior, we also recognized that it is developmentally appropriate and, in many cases, typical for a 21-month-old. Both can be correct. Despite having several conversations over the course of a few weeks at pick-up with my husband about additional strategies to address this behavior, the administration believed it was important to have a virtual meeting to discuss additional resolutions. As soon as the conversation began, Ms. Britney mentioned how my son, at a mere 21 months, a young boy who is considered small for his age, was "dangerous" to his peers and teachers. She then went on to berate us with an interrogation about "what's going on at home?" and we were subsequently criticized for how we were addressing the behavior at home. The insinuations were clear, and they were insulting and highly disrespectful. Instead of seeking a collaborative solution, we were being lectured on basic "Parenting 101" practices for raising children (with the implied assumption that he was witnessing physical abuse at home). If this is how leadership was talking to me and my husband in our faces, I can only imagine how they were treating my "dangerous" child while we weren't present. In a society where Black children are constantly vilified for simply existing and developing appropriately, this approach did nothing but reinforce the ideology that Black children require more significant discipline measures compared to their peers. THIS is how the school-to-prison pipeline begins. Research shows that Black children are 4 times more likely to be suspended from preschool because of "behavioral issues." That statistic increases by 2.5 if that Black child is a boy. Knowing this and witnessing firsthand how Black boys are punished more harshly than their peers and criminalized for typical development behavior in our society, this description, this extreme language to describe a 21-month-old, did not seem like a place that would create an environment where he was nurtured and appreciated. We ultimately decided to remove him after his 2.5-month stint at The Britleys School because we will not let this institution, or any institution for that matter, steal our son's joy. The Britleys School did not recognize my son's essence and brilliance, and because they didn't, they will not have the privilege of watching him grow into an amazing young man bound to positively impact those around him. Zero stars--would not recommend.

On April 15, 2025, my son called me in tears after another student threw a shoe at him, causing him…read moreto fall. I asked where the teacher was, and he told me she was in the classroom, not paying attention--talking with another staff member. When I asked if she helped him right away, he said no. I had to call the daycare myself because no one from your center contacted me about the incident. No one could explain what happened. I was told repeatedly that no one even knew about it until his father brought it to the staff's attention. Why? Because management was apparently in a meeting dealing with another situation. Is my child not a priority? I'm sorry your staff wasn't supported well enough to do their jobs properly, but that's not my problem--it's yours. Not only did no one offer care, but my son wasn't even sent home with so much as an ice pack. Completely unacceptable. The next day, I brought Trent in so staff could see the physical damage for themselves. I remained calm the entire time--no yelling, no raised voice--but I made it clear I expected answers and accountability. I asked to view the camera footage and was told none existed, despite the video monitor clearly visible in the office. I was told an investigation would be done and I'd receive a call by noon. When I was contacted, I was told my son was lying. That he was playing leapfrog and tripped over another student. No. What we're not going to do is gaslight my child to avoid responsibility. Now it's turned into a "he said, she said," and it's giving full-on cover-up energy--overcrowded, understaffed, and trying to sweep it under the rug. My son's story hasn't changed once. I believe him, and I will always stand behind him. Tell me--what does a child gain by lying about being hurt? I also made it very clear: if anything else happens to either of my children while in your care, I will not hesitate to file a police report. Then--after all of this--you send me a disrespectful, accusatory email full of lies and decide to remove both of my children from your center? Because I advocated for my son? Cool. I was two steps ahead of y'all anyway. I handled this situation peacefully. You will not call my son a liar, and you will not lie on me. I never left a voicemail, so that accusation is completely false. Like I said--and I'll say it again--I BELIEVE MY CHILD. I've already filed a complaint with the Office of Child Care. Next step: a police report.

I can vouch for before/aftercare and Summer Camp! The center went as far as taking my son to…read morefootball practice. You just need to pick them up. (Can you say more "you" time?). Also, for the before/aftercare, they do provide you child with breakfast, snacks and dinner. I mean....home cooked dinner! They offer free tutoring (in addition to homework assistance), dance classes, mime, drama and they always have big production performances. Let's not even get started on the Summer Camp! Pay your tuition on time and you shouldn't have any issues.
