What many people don't know is that if you're looking for cheap laptops, monitors, cameras, computer parts and accessories, the first place you look shouldn't be in JB Hi-fi or God forbid, Myer??? It should be in places like PC DIY or MSY where you can get things for up to 20 to 30 percent cheaper, depending on what you buy. The last time I was there I was looking for a HDMI converter cable which I managed to get one for a significantly cheaper price compared to if I had gone to the likes of Officeworks, which is another store I do love but for different reasons. If you're looking for custom solutions, you can talk to the people in the shop and they will help you design a computer that suits your needs and price tag. Walking in, you'll be greeted by a large front desk where there is usually at least one shop assistant. They may not seem super friendly to some people who come in for the first time, but they are helpful and straightforward. Most of the people who go into the shop usually know what it is they are looking for and they tend to expect those kinds of customers that walk up to the desk and simply ask them for the component or tech that they are looking for. Whenever I'm looking for cheap good quality tech, the two places I will think of are PC DIY and MSY.

Ian's reminded me that it needs to be emphasised that you should never, ever go to places like Harvey Norman or Dick Smith's for HDMI cables. Not that long ago, a metre of HDMI cable at those places sold for over fifty bucks. Now they're down to around thirty bucks. At the same time that they were fifty bucks at other places, I bought a three metre HDMI cable here for about fifteen bucks. Good shop. Like it. Prefer MSY, but this place is good too.

I purchased an expensive set of headphones:- * Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless Noise Cancelling Over-Ear cost $400.99 Purchase date was 8 May 2022. Today is 22 October 2022. The headphones suddenly stopped connecting via Bluetooth. I tried all the troubleshooting advice online and received an email stating that I should visit my nearest store for a replacement or refund. Hence - I went to West Lakes. The manager Jordan was called because I wanted a replacement. He checked the headphones himself and they wouldn't connect. Jordan stated that they needed to be sent off to Sony (manufacturer) to be checked. I stated this was unacceptable - they had a major fault (didn't work) and I am entitled to a refund or replacement under consumer law. ACCC states: "Businesses can't take away a consumer's right to a refund or replacement for faulty products or services. It's illegal for businesses to rely on store policies or terms and conditions which deny these rights." Jordan refused to refund or replace. He relied upon 'store policy' and denied my rights. Jordan was happy for his photo to be taken - a kind gesture. I advised that I would be giving the store a bad review. Jordan was okay with this. Photo evidence is included. Jordan could have just replaced the headphones. They had a spare set. Poor show - breach of consumer law JB Hi-Fi. Photos included are evidence. I reserve all rights and will be taking this matter further with JB Hi-Fi. But honestly... Just avoid this store - go somewhere else.

Plenty of staff, plenty of customers, loud music, huge discounts and security guards (who happen to know me very well by now). The store is pretty brilliant. I've purchased computers and cameras from here with no problems whatsoever. The staff are happy to help and actually know what they're talking about. Of course my favourite thing about JB is the music and DVD section. Oh TV box sets, you are the reason I never have any money. The range is pretty incredible. A huge stock of Disney DVDs, classics, live concerts, action, romance, comedy, musicals, they really have it all! 9 out of 10 times that you're in search of a movie or music cd, JB will have it. If on the odd chance they don't have it, they are more than happy to order it in for you. The only thing I wish I could change about JB Hi-Fi is to make sure they allow a lay-by system. It sucks when the store has 20% off everything but you can't afford it. Especially at Christmas time. A lay-by system would come in handy that's for sure!

Basically most Harvey Norman stores are set up the same. Huge entrances to the furniture department. Usually entrances are in the middle of lounges, if you go one way you will ge tmore furniture then curve round to televisions and the likes, go the other way and get beds and bedding. I have managed to grab some fantastic bargains on some great pillows here actually. Heaps better quality than at department stores and they lasted heaps longer. The Electrical and Computers are usually in a separate section at the rear or one side of the store, with electrical left of the spearate entrance to this area and computer, mobiles phones, camera's, PC software, etc to the right of the registers. I have never purchased nay major electrical items from this store but have bought some really good computer equipment here. Including a fantastic Acer laptop. It was already out so cheap and had a cah back offer making it even cheaper in the end. I have always received good service here and been given some great advice from people who obviously know their products. Getting the service is the hardest part - they are usually really busy, more so in computers and electrical departments, and it may take a little wait before someone is available to help you. However once you have someone their service is usually very good, I have never had an issue with a staff member at any Harvey Norman store.

You'll get exactly the same thing and pay less than half the cost in many situations. I haven't ever bought furniture at Hardly Normal's, just because if I'm paying that much, it'll be from a premium store, not this place, or any of the others. I do feel a bit sorry for those that have to buy their computers here. Seriously, go to MSY, buy the parts, and learn to do it yourself. I ordered a new PC case, which arrived as expected, but turned out to have a manufacturing defect…read moreand thus was DOA. I emailed their support pictures of it, and followed up twice more in the coming days but never heard back. Eventually I had to call them, and they said that they could not just replace the part that was damaged - which was considered a spare part - but that I would have to return the whole thing, and it would take two to four weeks to be assessed and replaced. I told them this was not not be suitable, so instead would like a refund, but was then told that they could not guarantee a refund. Having looked into it, I found I was within my rights to receive a refund, so called them back and arranged the return. At first even though it was an online order, they wanted me to drive (3 hours) to the nearest store to return it, but I made it clear I was not going to do that, and they seemingly begrudgingly agreed to generate a return label. Whilst I was thanking them for their help, they were monotone and unenthused the entire time. They also said that they can put a request in for the refund, but it may still take a number of weeks. This also does not align with Australian Consumer Law. I won't be buying from MSY / Umart again, and would encourage others to note how poor their online reviews are now. I didn't check, as I know previously they were a good company, but I did not notice Umart had acquired them.

I just find that the location hasn't often been convenient for me to shop at, as when I'm in Adelaide, I'll usually be in the city, and when I'm at home, well, that's not anywhere near Adelaide, full stop. I bought a new box in here a few months ago. I think it was an Antec 300. A power supply too, a fairly good one. Both had been going really well. I think since I went in there, they've reorganised the shop, if they're anything like the other MSYs I've been too. Now, you don't go to the counter and ask the staff to get the parts you're after, you need to walk through the store, pick up what you want (which is tricky if you don't know what the packaging looks like), and walk to the queue at the counter. MSY really aren't about service. They're about being very cheap. If you've got a faulty product, then they won't be exchanging it, they'll be sending it off to the manufacturer, and you'll be lucky if you see it again in the next month, usually more. But that's part of the chance you take when shopping somewhere so cheap.

I completely understand that not every store can carry everything -- that's fair enough -- but the way it was handled left a bad taste. Instead of a polite "sorry, we don't have that," I was spoken to quite rudely, as if I was a nuisance for even asking. I've been to plenty of hobby shops where staff are friendly and happy to point you in the right direction, even if they don't have what you need. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. I get that people have off days, but when customers come in excited about their hobby, a little courtesy goes a long way. Definitely not the experience I was hoping for especially from an amazing hobby store.

And all items from the factory outlet carry a full warranty. The majority of the items here are either scratch and dent, demos or simply the previous model, not that there's anything wrong with that, check where the marks are on the item and if they're not going to be visible, then why not. With these particular items it just means the store cannot sell items which are not in peak cosmetic condition. As an example which is two years old but none the less, I done some research on which TV was going to be the best for us, good quality and had the features we wanted...so we settled on a Toshiba Regza 46". I can't remember the exact amounts paid but I can tell you the difference between buying it new from a department store and new from HV outlet was $1000, as it was the model just finished and HV was making room for the next in coming model that's the reason it was at their factory outlet. That's it...we saved $1000, got full warranty, wasn't a scratch n dent and it's still going strong, best investment. It also had alot to do with being in the right place at the right time, all the stars aligned and all that jazz. Hint: Do you research online, read blogs, get specs, etc and then look for where it is for viewing, how much it costs, take into account a small portion of what the sales people tell you as they get brownie points for sales, then add it all up in the end, because it's your money and your decision not theirs. The Harvey Norman clearance outlet is a little shop on south road, where not so perfect electronic…read moregoods go to be sold. It's kind of like an animal shelter for whitegoods. You go in there and tell the guys what you need and they show you items that might be a bit less than perfect. The great thing is that quite often, there's the tiniest of dents or scratches which is stopping them from being sold in the normal shops. The way to shop here is to go to the regular HN stores, find something you want, look at where it is going in your house and know which surfaces are not important. For example, our fridge will be against a wall on its left side, so I could have bought one with a huge scratch on that side. I ended up getting a brand new Fisher and Paykel fridge and washing machine with a hefty discount. Also, they offer an extended warranty and delivery. The fridge has a tiny dent on the front which you can barely see and the washing machine has a scratch on the side, but as it's being built in, it won't be seen. They also have TV's, coffee machines, washing machines, cooktops and ovens, heaters, air conditioners and more. Definitely worth checking out. Also, all the items are tested to check that they still work fine.
