I venture into any Good Guys store with a little trepidation - I know I'll pay less for cash - and that apparently Eftpos IS cash as far as they're concerned, just not credit cards, but I'm also aware that the price I'm going to end up paying is going to be as a result of my negotiation skills. Don't get me wrong, I'm good at the haggling game, friends and family will drag me along to these kinds of places, and for car purchases, etc, just to make sure they get their best price, but the other side of that is that instead of going and getting the best price, paying it and leaving, there's an element of getting ready to go into a hostage situation now... I'm expected to get the better of the professional haglee on the other end.
This particular Good Guys has only recently opened, and is definitely huge - it dwarfs the store over at Keswick Home Maker centre, which I thought was big to start with. Staff here are friendly, I think they're working hard to get a good footing in the local area, and definitely aren't as pushy as many I've experienced in similar stores. We picked up an LCD TV just before Christmas, after dutiful shopping around, and managed to get a small percentage off the tag price - annoyingly now, a few weeks later, the same set is being advertised fifty bucks cheaper, but that's always the way with that kind of purchase.
Range of product here is good - in fact, if it wasn't for my inherent distrust of simply going to one store for an electrical purchase, we could have probably 'shopped around' simply by visiting here. Purchases are handled well, entered in at one of a number of points around the store, then when you get to the front you can pay for the purchase and leave - all the paperwork is ready when you get there and the waiting in line is minimised, even a week before Christmas.
The centre here has plenty to offer, too - neighbours include a huge furniture store (Freedom Furniture, from memory) and a Super Cheap Car Accessories store - parking for these three big mega stores is abundant, which is appreciated off the busy Glynburn Road. read more
