Walking in, you have a beautiful bar flanked by a wood burning fireplace surrounded by chairs/ couches. Open the adjacent door and you have the other side of the bar and entrance to the back bar. The back bar is just amazing, complete with a replica of The Titanic! Trust me, you won't see anything like this anywhere... back in the day this bar commissioned folks to go on the ship, they said. What makes the place is the Locals... here they will talk to you, spark up a conversation unlike Dublin & Cork City. Spent 3-4 nights in here and the people you meet and conversations/ gibberish really make it authentic! The bartenders are also all good, dealt with 3 different ones and all of them had plenty of info on the area/ recommendations, etc. The Guinness is amazing and they DO NOT serve food during the off season... have a bag of salted peanuts! It was packed, everyone was having fun signing and drinking ... one big party. I met and had so many great conversations with both locals and people from all over the world. There are real cooks here who know how to cook. The surprising thing for us was we didn't even know the harbour existed let alone the Towers restaurant. We only learned this in the local town hall when we went in on Monday to buy tickets for their swing night on the Friday. The staffer originally from Belfast was a great tourism ambassador. On our first night at this place I opted for linguine. I kept it light and vegetarian. My wife opted for cod & chips with mushy peas & tartare sauce. Boyso, the biggest piece of fried fish we've ever been served. It was delicious and I got a piece. The mushy peas were excellent too. There were two problems that need some re work though; the fish batter was a good beer batter. It was crispy thin delicious on serving, but sadly it didn't stay crisp for the time it took to eat the cod. The skin on chips should also have been cooked a bit longer. On another night, my wife opted for their chicken tikka masala, which she liked (good 3 star). I had seafood chowder with a dense delightful brown bread, served with butter and 6 Clew Bay oysters served with a raspberry vinaigrette. I do prefer plain fresh lemon, white pepper and red Tabasco. I'd put the chowder 5 star and the oysters 3 to 4 star. The oysters are priced top end - I wouldn't buy them again. On yet another night my wife had their sirloin steak (€28.5) with all the fixings and the steak and pepper sauce were really top notch. The skin on chips were done perfectly that night. I didn't manage to eat it all while to batter was crispy. We had excellent coffees two nights and truly delicious espresso martinis on our last night. The view outside was wild beauty; stunning. We would go back in a heart beat. They should address the poor to non existent WiFi. Seems if the weather is poor so is the WiFi. It's the west of Ireland folks so the risk of poor weather is September thru March annually. Yes I know when folks are dining they shouldn't be going on line but it's as essential as serving great food.

Pat Cohans is famous for the fight scene in the Oscar wining movie (1951) The Quite Man, staring John Wayne and Maureen O'hara. My wife who did all of the travel bookings is an old movie buff and put Cong on our travel itinerary. It was about 3:30 p.m. when we arrived in Cong after our morning visit to the Cliffs Of Moher. We had not eaten since breakfast and quickly made the short two block walk to Pat Cohans. We ordered the double burger with fries and a side order of onion rings. It was all good. Best onion rings I've had in a long, long time. The burgers were excellent. A few of you will pick up on this this statement, "where's the beef", well it was on our burgers. The beef patties were nice and thick. Great burgers! We had a nice late lunch, early dinner.
