Like the whole place, it's a bit ragged round the edges, a bit unkempt, like the disused old dockside warehouse buildings waiting, probably vainly, for a trendy arty community to go and revitalise them. But, in a funny sort of way, this is part of the charm of the place, it's seaside, but not upmarket, trendy or snooty, but down to earth (wind and sea), a place for everyone.

Alongside the harbour itself - which is reasonably small, holding around 50 boats is a purpose built lifeboat station, which is often open to the public to explore. 'Cosy Corner' is a green, park area, which has previously been home toa theatre, cinema, roller skating rink and ballroom. It is now quite scruffy and run-down, but is pleasant enough on a summers day. The Jennings Building, a grade II listed building which is Wales' oldest maritime warehouse, is currently home to the PADS Skate Boarding Centre, which can be visited for a few quid. There is a giant chess board area near the lifeboat station - but no pieces, so immagination is required! At the end of Porthcawl Pier there is a lighthouse, which is approximately 140 years old. The Pier and the area surrounding the harbour are popular spots for sea fishing. There is a small bait and tackle shop near the lifeboat station. A small Sidoli's cafe and ice cream shop stands near the harbour. There are one or two outside tables, but this mainly caters for take-away ice creams. You can sail on the historic ships the Waverley, the world's last sea-going paddle steamer, and the Balmoral from this area during the summer months.[3] The whole of the harbour quarter has been identified as an important area as part of the Porthcawl Regeneration Strategy. The Porthcawl Sea Festival, Summer Markets and Surf Cult Festival often focus on this area - and they are best enjoyed on busy, sunny summer days.

I have serious doubts over the Head, Mr Naish. Who was completely unable to spot a child with serious ADHD & Aspergers. Plus some 9 months after the child has left the school, Mr Nic Naish is still victimising the 10 year old child. He should be ashamed of himself, his staff and his Governors.

This is an amazing school! All the teachers here are so kind and helpful. They give give your child…read moreplenty of work to do and if they need help they with give them the support they need. The food is nice and a good price. The lunch and break times are a perfect opportunity to meet up with your friends and are the exact amount of time you need. In form in the morning their teachers play fun form games and encourage you to be yourself. In lesson time you have a range of subjects with lots of extordimary teachers who help you along your journey of fun from yr seven all the way to yr thirteen if you want to stay, I would definitely recommend this school.

Kids have been jumped outside of this school plenty of times. Teachers give out little work and have the right to embarrass you and treat you like you're nothing in front of class. Personally, I would NEVER recommend bringing your child here if you want to keep him safe.

Beautiful spot, just behind the car park for the sand dunes near Merthyr Mawr village - hidden up…read morethe bank and easily missed. Not really a castle but an old fortified manor house built around 14th century and abandoned in 19th century - (why would they do that?? A ye olde pad by one of the biggest sand dune playgrounds in Europe, where scenes from Lawrence of Arabia were filmed??). Anyway, they did leave it and it's now a bit of a ruin but just as fascinating - you can crawl through little crevices, pick your way up a dank staircase and peer into the gloom of the dark cellar room. Shame they've blocked off access to the uppermost walls, that was fun and nicely dangerous - you'll just have to be more inventive. (These health and safety people perhaps should be hung out to dry, maybe from a high window!) Lovely surrounds, green and brown and red woodlands, huge golden sand dunes - bring a picnic (and maybe a thermal blanket) for out door dining needs, excellent.
