The Grand Theatre in Swansea has to be visited just for it's wonderful interior let alone great productions. The Grand has hosted some fantastic shows, as well as concerts and also has an Art Wing which as well as hosting some great exhibitions has lunchtime performances and a Comedy Club on a regular basis. Acoustics are great in the theatre and even up in the eaves of the Upper Circle performances are clear to hear. There are a few restricted view seats but they are generally sold at lower prices and having sat in one a couple of times, only slightly restricted for most performances. read more

I have a deep-seated love of the Grand Theatre as to me, it always seemed like an enormous hub of the arts and for a while, the ultimate stage on which to perform. It's an old, slightly falling apart Victorian theatre - you know the kind, gilding throughout, red velvet seats (bit shabby though, now), stalls, circle, upper circle Now that I'm a super mega star in London, Swansea Grand Theatre seems to be a quaint relic. The programming here is not great, big touring musicals and big name comedians mostly - as well as the panto of course. Which Neighbours star will feature this year? There is an Arts Wing upstairs which allows for slightly more interesting studio performances of smaller shows. Another strong memory for me was ballet classes here on a saturday morning - entering through stage door and scrambling through all the back passages, past dressing rooms and stage exits to get to the dance studios. Felt very showbiz as a kid. The Footlights cafe bar downstairs is alright, but because the theatre is located right in the middle of the city centre, you can find lots of places to enjoy a pre/post show drink/bite. read more

What a great little theatre! We've been here a few times, notably to see a live performance of 'Just a Minute' with Nicholas Parsons and Paul Merton; a production of 'An Inspector Calls', and 'Julian Clary' on tour! Since 1897, this theatre has been providing the public with a broad range of cultural, artistic and general entertainment events. The Grand theatre is an excellent place to visit if you havent before now. There is a pay and display car park close by. We have been a great many times over the years and have always enjoyed. One of my favorite performances here was 'the woman in black' It is always worth considering a visit her as an alternative to the cinema as you really get a far better exerience. There is always plenty of literature about as too future performances and it is always better to book far in advance. I took my partner to see the ballet last valentines in Swansea Grant Theatre. We were sitting on the top seats and it was rather like sitting in someones lap, there was not much leg room at all. The performance itself was great and the view of the ballet was fine. The music from the orchestra sounded good in the theatre because it is quite small. I was surprised to see it hadn't changed since i went there as a child to see the pantomine. There are new theatres such as the one in Cardiff and this one is starting to look a bit second rate. Let's hope it will be renovated soon before it is too late. read more

A splendid place to enjoy a night out at the Theatre. The Grand is a really lovely, traditional theatre. I've seen many shows within it's walls and always find it a great place to visit. you can park across the road in the pay and display although it does get busy around showtime. The accoustics in the theatre are excellent. There's not that much legroom but I'm not very tall so it doesn't really bother me. There is a lovely bar to enjoy an interval tipple or an after show drink. There are some real characters amongst its barflies. read more

Have enjoyed many a show at the Grand over the years. Saw David Essex last Dec. - what a show, fantastic! He really knows how to entertain an audience and still sounds the same. Got all the women (and one man!) in the front rows off their seats and shouting for him! If you enjoy ballet, go and see Ballet Russe, the theatre's resident ballet company. Full of enthusiasm, energy and grace - a treat every time! The theatre is beginning to look a little shabby in places (could do with new seats) but personally I think it all adds to the ambience and doesn't distract from the enjoyment of the evening at all. read more

I went to see my first live opera in the Grand this year with my eldest daughter; A marvellous experience. My wife and I are going to see Mal Pope and the Jacks on 4th November and are really looking forward to it. The Grand is a comfortable and exciting venue that we have visited whenever we can. It offers a wide range of entertainment from professional entertainers, concerts etc. to great shows put on by local amateur groups. The facilities for disabled people seem good too. read more

Over the years the Grand theatre has played host to the great musicals and plays of this country but in recent years it has lost it's sparkle. With the draw of the Wales millennium centre in Cardiff in direct competition with the Grand , the management have seemed not to have been able to draw the big plays to the city. Inside the theatre the seats are adequate but are in need of replacing it does feel like you are on top of the next person's lap. whilst there is little leg room which some people may find problematic. If you suffer from vertigo or are uneasy with heights I certainly would avoid booking seats in the upper two circles. Don't forget to ask for concessions if you are entitled to them sometimes when booking they are not always offered. read more

Wonderful theatre, we are regular visitors, however, this years pantomime leaves a lot to be desired, poor Dame, poor acting, and not suitable for children under 7 as parts of it can be scary. In previous years the pantomime has made children laugh and interact, not the case this year. Disappointing and frankly shabby read more
