Santikos took over the Grand Theaters and set about ruining the movie experience. Prices are up but service is down. You stand in a concession line, pay for what you want, get your own candy (one wonders how much they lose in theft that way), pay the high prices and are gifted with empty containers for you to fight other patrons to fill your popcorn and your drinks. No one to purchase tickets from; you either do that online and pay extra fees or the kiosk at the theater. Oh and don't purchase a daquiri because Santikos cannot price in styrofoam into the $18 price for a daquiri, so your hand will freeze. We saw Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition recently at the Johnston Street location and the theater sounded like it had one front center working speaker set to LOW volume; you could easily have conversations with people next to you, even several seats away. Total garbage, especially for a music documentary. I guess they didn't expect many people, so screw those fans because I heard sound blasting out of other theaters. Don't waste your money or your time. Movies are much better and cheaper at home with surround sound and you'll get better service. read more

There is new management now and they are very rude . I will not go back which is fine with me there are other places to go to. Ever since new management has come in it has gone way down hill now when i go it almost fils like i am being inspected at the front door. I had a horrible experience at the movies today. First, I was denied bringing in a small (Ziplock sandwich) bag of vegan (oil free) popcorn in for my son with severe food allergies. I asked to speak with the manager and the woman (large person with purple hair) who decided my straw purse needed to be checked, informed me that she was the manager. I explained about his allergies and she said it didn't matter. I was meeting friends or I would have requested a refund due to her rude treatment. Besides this, the chairs in the theater were worn out at the head rest and just plain dirty. My son found food in the sides of his chair and my daughter's cup holder was filled with water. When the movie was over, we spoke to the man cleaning the theater. He was very nice and took care of the things he could considering the shabby condition of the theater. We then went to use the bathroom, two of the stalls were clogged and there was urine all over the floors. Considering this awful experience, I don't think I can ever go back to this theater. read more

Worst experience ever at a movie theater. Very very rude manger kicked me an my grandchildren out of a kids movie today because my 2 year old grandson was standing in between my legs and not in his seat. Not crying not making a peep. Manager told me "I kicked you out because you shouldn't have talked back to me". Wow. Who does this guy think he is? Happy thanksgiving to you too. Hope you are proud of yourself. We went to the movies to go see Bad Boys: Ride or Die. We got our tickets online and noticed that "The Grand" was under new management from a company called "Santikos". Thinking nothing of it, we booked our show time and our seats: Theater D, seats L9 and L10 since they were available. When we got there, it was apparent that the Theater was more worse for ware than the last time we went. Movie posters that were usually lit up and vibrant were soggy, torn, and sun bleached. We ordered some nachos when we walked in and what once was fresh nachos was now being served to us in a box. We also ordered a some soft drinks but when we went to the soft drink kiosks, 2 out of the 3 didnt serve ice and 1 out of the 3 didnt serve the drinks we wanted. So we had to bounce from one machine to get ice, then jump on another one to get drinks! Now that we had our drinks and our box nachos, we made our way to the theater which was a bit hard to find because the theater rooms didnt have pictures of the movies being played like they usually do. Just blank white screens. When we manage to locate our theater room, we made our way up the stairs to our chairs which were on the top row. But once we got there, one of out seats (L9) was completely gone! It just had a big white sheet where the seat should be that said "OUT OF ORDER" Now we're upset because we have to move down a seat but that meant that we were possibly sitting down in someone elses seat! Luckily no one got the next seat over. But it was just aggravating because the seat shouldn't have even been available for booking if it was "OUT OF ORDER". Now that we're situated, we open our nachos and they're stale! And the cheese came in a sealed cup but everything tasted so manufactured. Its hard to describe. It just wasnt fresh like it used to be. The movie itself was amazing! I recommend you see Bad Boys: Ride or Die but seeing it at the Grand kind of ruined the experience for me. Id really rather see it at an AMC theater. Im not sure if them being under new management has something to do with the lack of quality but they werent like this before the acquisition. So make of that what you will. Next time I want to get that movie experience, Ill probably look elsewhere because the Grand isnt what it use to be. read more

One thing to be aware of, is that there is a bar on premises. And, different people have different styles of watching movies. So, going later in the evening, that would be something to remember. Access to mixed drinks is a plus. And, concessions serves basic cheese and pepperoni pizza. The theater gets very dark once pictures start showing so watch your step when you make for the seats. I watched Barbie there, and the movie was very loud. But, that's the way of the world at cinemas. I was able to hear everything with my earplugs in. read more

Lafayette could use an AMC, or at least have the recliner chairs at this location of the Grand. Otherwise, this movie theatre is well kept. It's clean, the staff is really friendly. Lines for concessions aren't terribly long, nor the lines for tickets. The chairs are wide and leather, they rock but they don't recline. This particular location has 16 screens, and the other a bit smaller with only 14 screens. I tend to prefer this location. Overall, not many choices in Lafayette, so this is kind of what you get. Not terrible at all. read more

Just had the worst movie experience of my life. A huge family spent the whole time talking. Multiple customers complained and nothing was done. A worker even came in at one point, but he left shortly after. When he came in they were still talking, but he did nothing. It was a rated R movie and there were at least 6 children laughing and screaming the whole time. The parents did absolutely nothing. Other moviegoers even verbally told the family to be quiet and they only yelled back disrespectfully and in derogatory terms. I have had many great experiences here with my best friend. We go to that theater very often. This was absolutely ridiculous. We tried to call to report this incident to the manager of the establishment and the voicemail is apparently too full. I am so upset especially because it's my friend and I's first time going back to the movies since Covid. Not to mention I would have thoroughly enjoyed the movie had they not been there. This theatre is close to our house so it is very convenient for us. The parking lot is huge so even when there are a lot of people it is usually easy to find a spot. With that said, the parking lanes are quite narrow and very difficult to maneuver a large vehicle. If you have an option, take the smaller vehicle of the two that you have. There are mostly high school teenagers and perhaps young college students working here. They are all usually extremely friendly. The smell of popcorn permeates from the moment you walk in until you get out of the shower later that evening. I think snacks, drinks, etc. are generally very expensive at movie theaters everywhere and this one is no exception. Make sure you have sole extra cash for the kids if they are with you. read more

I am glad to be coming back here and love the changes and updates that were made during the long closure. For those who are not from Lafayette or aware, this was the site of "the" terrible tragedy in July 2015. Many of us weren't sure if the theatre would ever open again but I'm glad it did. So, as a note, any reviews you are reading that were before November of 2015 were done in the "old" theatre, not the newly renovated one. The place is renovated and they even have an area to grab yourself a nice alcoholic beverage. :) The theatre is clean, comfortable and safe. Comfortable seats that recline make this a great theater to catch that new flick. They offer you standard fare (popcorn, drinks, nachos) but also have chicken fingers, pizza and daiquiris. I asked about the nutritional value of the popcorn the other day and they don't have that information. Its bad, I know, but I wanted to know how bad. Awe well, a got a small popcorn a went on my way. Its a large theater with numerous screens (16?!) so options are aplenty. I have only been to two theaters in Lafayette (the only one was a grand also) and this seems to be the largest in town. Usually a pretty good theater. Problem, can't handle a group of teenage kids from a local group. Waited behind the man buying tickets for the whole group of kids. Only one working ticket booth. Then once inside, watched all those same rude kids cut the concession line, ugh. I guess my real problem is with this kids group leader for not buying tickets for the huge group early and not teaching them decent behavior in a public place. read more

I like many of the features of the new Grand 16 but I am not delighted with the leather seating. They are hot and uncomfortable during a long feature. I do like the fact that you can get the drinks of your choice as I am a diabetic and now have a larger range of sugar free drinks to chose from. I haven't been in the theatre yet with rude or obnoxious people and I like that. Sometimes the sound levels are a bit much too high though. read more

Where to start? First, I am hoping enough people will complain about the outrageous prices they charge at concessions. A Popcorn, Soda, Box of Raines cost me $27 on top of the $8.25 (yes that is for 1 Person) for the ticket. There is nothing special about your food so give us a break! I am on a fixed income and used to enjoy going to the movies 2 or 3 times month. Now if i want to see a new movie , which is rarely nowadays, i have to spend all my budgeted money in one day. It used to be that $100 = 2-3 movies( yes snack are optional). The theater was very clean but could use a spritz of air freshener to get the stale smell out. The previews were waaaaaay too loud. The movie volume was perfect but 3-5 times lower than the previews. I do not want to go deaf too! I am confined to a wheelchair and often take the bus to the movies by myself. However; when trying to get my snacks, if I buy them, to my seat I run into a problem. The ramps leading up to the screen room, which there are 2 of them, are extremely difficult to maneuver even with 2 free hands. There should be at least a small number of trays/containers which clip to wheelchairs that snap shut. And they should only be for wheelchair users. These trays/contaniers would allow for easy transporting of snacks to the screen room. Spilled my popcorn twice and the 1 person working concessions (playing on his phone) did not even flinch. He just turned around and, pretended like he was working. I get around pretty well and have my own way of doing things but, at least offering to help would have been nice. And honestly I probably would have told him thanks but, I can handle it. Bathrooms need working automatic hand dryers and towels. This theater had neither. I don't see the theater lasting much longer if they can't work with customers. I gave 3 stars because of the couldn't care less employe attitude. read more

There are not may theatre options in the area, but my experience was quite pleasant. The line was short and moved quickly at the ticket window. The ticket was a bit high at $9.75, but I guess that is the going rate. The theatre was clean and the temperature was comfortable. A small drink and a small popcorn cost me a little over $12. The seats don't recline and the restrooms don't have paper towels, but it was not a bad experience for an older theater in great condition. read more

So I go see "Mad Max: Fury Road" and I bring my MAN-BAG/Murse/Indiana Jones map bag/Satchel with me because I carry a lot of medicine with me as well as a daily planner, pens, wallet, candy, keys, lotion, phone, script for play, chapstick, passport, and any important documents I may need to have ON me at any point. So after paying $10.75 for the movie, I went to the concession stand and ordered my $15.00 popcorn and coke. Well the manager and this guy in a suit with a headpiece comes up to me and ask if I would check my bag into the office because I couldn't bring it into the theater with me. I said: "Wait...wait...wait....I can't part with this....It has ALL my medicine and my money...and...and...hold on...do y'all let women bring in their purses?" He said: "Yes...but they are women and it's their purse!" I instantly replied: "Well A. That is sexist. And B. This IS MY PURSE!" Then I walked away like I had my heels on. Assholes.
