To start, our waitress Aphroditi was amazing, a real Greek lady with so much attention to an"every detail on our needs as first customers . Then, the food was super delicious (), I got the traditional moussaka, and my hubby got the octapothi ''tis skaras. Of course, our appetizers were the Taramasalata and Kamari Tiganito. To end this great experience, we got to share a kourambietges. This place has more than 5 starts, because this Aphroditi was on top all the time, despite so many more customers were in place. We had a lovely late lunch here. We sat outside and were able to enjoy a light breeze and some sunshine. All of our servers were quite friendly and attentive. We ordered their 4 dips & pita starter. It was delicious and we enjoyed the variety of dips. For meals my husband ordered their mixed seafood dish and I ordered a special which was chicken stuffed with a Greek cheese and spinach over Greek mashed potatoes. This is my all time favourite restaurant and the reason I have picked it to celebrate my birthday. The food and service are spectacular and never been disappointed. Pricing is on the high side if you are ordering meze but order a main and you are on track with majority of places, but a culinary delight. We started with the mixed dip platter, which was really nice. For main course I ordered the Traditional Moussaka, it was really nice and a good option that wasn't so meat focused (it had minced beef, but there is also a vegetarian version). When the time came to order dessert, we were so full that we couldn't fit anymore in - as a mega sweet tooth, I semi regret this and would love to go back just for dessert and coffee. Some vegan friends told me that the Greek on Halifax was extremely accommodating. What's one to do with news like this? Give it a go themselves. FOOD I phoned ahead to book a table and advised them that there would be two vegans. They said it wouldn't be a problem as the kitchen is quite adept at accommodating for special dietary requirements. They'd be able to throw together some dips, dolmathes and char-grilled vegetables: a veritable feast. That's indeed what we got. We started with melitzanosalata (roasted eggplant and garlic dip) with a julienne of carrot, cucumber and red capsicum. The melitzanosalata was smokey and moorish. The vegetable batons were a nice touch--they allowed the delicious aromatic flavour of the dip to shine. For main we were spoilt with a veganised fakés salata (a salad of lentil, red onion, beetroot, baby spinach and coriander, finished with a white balsamic dressing) and a char-grilled vegetable stack topped with beetroot-infused skordalia. The salad was refreshing and light, with a delicious breath of coriander and cumin. The vegetable stack was vibrant and substantial. Every component (zucchini, eggplant, pumpkin, capsicum and sweet corn) had been cooked with care. One of the waiters informed me that they are working on a vegan moussaka (using an almond milk based béchamel) which can be prepared with a few additional days notice. For this, I will be back for sure. 4.5/5 PRICE Shared appetisers and mains for two plus a good bottle of wine came to a none-to-shabby $90. For what we had, this represents tremendous value for money. 4/5 ATMOSPHERE / VENUE We sat outside, which was perfect on a balmy autumn night. It's an impressive space, what with the huge chimney stack in the background. In side it seems a little more shambolic, with rooms darting off in every direction. Came here for the first time for a meal with work friends. I was greeted straight away and made to feel really welcome when I was the first of my group to arrive. They have a lovely set of starters and nibbles, which I savoured as I waited for the rest of my group to arrive. The four island dips and bread was really nice with wine to start things off. For mains we all shared a meat platter and it was all cooked really well, the lamb chops were succulent and sausages pack with flavour. It all came on a bed of tasty rice. We also had a side of "Greek chips" these were nicely seasoned and made for a nice addition to the meal. The calamari was very tasty too. I liked the vibe of this place, it's great for a dinner date for two with cosy corner seating. They have lots of larger round tables for meals with friends. I have been wanting to dine here for a long time so when friends suggested a Friday night dinner here I was excited. Well I did enjoy the night but think the company outdid the food. The food was good - we shared multiple dishes which was ideal and allowed us to get a good variety. The menu is reasonable and tends to be meat heavy. The staff were friendly and also made the night enjoyable. Although I may sound negative I would recommend dining here and trying it out. One of the most disappointing experiences I've had. We had planned a nice night out to have dinner somewhere followed by a show in the city. We chose the Greek and also Mentioned we has a show to attend at 8:00 and were seated at 6:00. Ordered straight away and started to get very anxious when it was 7:15 and still had received our meal. I went in and asked if it would be much longer and was told "it's just coming out" it was still another 5-10 minutes and was warm at best and underwhelming in size for a platter. The whole time we were waiting for it to come out the waitress sounded like she was dying, sneezing and having a coughing fit which didn't really add to our romantic evening out. Won't be back there. The Greek does amazing coffee. I go there all the time when I'm sick of having my daily Cibo fix. The food is interesting. It is all Greek, so you have to step a bit out of your comfort zone and try something different. One of my favourite dishes is their haloumi. It's not like the usual chewy, squeaky haloumi you buy in the shops. It is soft and almost falls apart in your mouth. I have not tried many of their other dishes but they have a great range of tapas and almost every meat and seafood dish you could think of. Yes it does cost quite a bit. Tapas are about $15 and mains go up to about $30. It is very good quality food though, using some of the best ingredients. This makes cashing out the extra money more worthwhile. The Greek has a very nice outdoor area. Quite a few tables are under large umbrellas to shade you from the sun or rain. In winter there are also heaters to keep you that bit warmer. The interior is really pretty and quite classy; a lot of wood is used. The service is great, very personal and friendly. Every time I walk in, they greet me and have a chat. If you plan on going in for dinner with a group I would definitely recommend booking, there is not heaps of space for large tables. read more

My wife disagrees the coffee was too hot, but she's pregnant and occasionally leaves the car keys in the fridge soooo..... Longish wait time for food. Serving staff pleasant but seem to be inexperienced. Expensive for what it is. Verdict, whilst the bacon was nice, we wouldn't go there again Probably not the worst place on Adelaide (hence 2 stars instead of only 1). The Greek is unashamedly my first choice for Greek food in Adelaide. If I could think of any bad side to the experiences I've had there, I'd put them down here, but there have been none. It is, however, relegated to my 'special occasions' list - they say you get what you pay for, and The Greek lives up to that rule - you pay for great food. Do not miss their grilled saganaki - it is to die for - and the true value here is in dining with friends and getting a couple of platters - you need enough people so you can share at least two platters, to get one seafood and one meat - otherwise the decision is just simply too hard :) Book ahead. The Greek gets REALLY busy sometimes, even for lunch during the week. Business types - the meal you buy your client here will definitely help seal that deal. Top notch food. read more

I have always enjoyed going to the Greek, however the service our table of 3 received on Saturday night was terrible! The food was nice but when you are paying in excess of $200+ for food and drinks, the service should match that price. We sat alfresco and while the place was packed, the wait staff only seemed to service inside diners. We arrived for our booking at 8pm and sat for 20 minutes before we finally managed to catch a waiters attention to order drinks, another 15 minutes passed before we actually got our drinks. Food took an hour to come out. By then the place was almost empty. The wait staff did not clean our table between entree and main or offer another round of drinks! I had to go up to the front counter twice to get some service and was told to sit back down because they offered table service! What a joke! One waitress in particular was very rude and it is because of the very poor service that I will not go back to this restaurant again. read more

Haloumi is not a food group. I'm just putting that out there. It really isn't. Many men might think it is, and they might think they can eat their own bodyweight in it, maybe with a nice beer chaser or five, but it's not a sensible representation of all the food groups. So maybe it'd be wise if men weren't encouraged to visit the Greek on Halifax unsupervised, because the haloumi cheese is awesome. Completely awesome. We ordered two serves and ate them both. And then there was some other kind of haloumi-like cheese so we ate two serves of that too. Okay, there were nine of us. But both cheeses were so good, I was surprised there wasn't a little pile of dead fried-cheese-eating-men cadavers just piled up by the door, where the umbrellas would be on a rainy day. Other things about the Greek probably also attract men, fried-cheese-eating or otherwise, and women, cheese-proclivities-aside, in droves. This is a cheerful, family place. It has family vibe, and the food is fresh, simple and tasty. The waitstaff are charming, and overall there's a happy sense that the Greek team love their work, love meeting customers, and love feeding people. If that's their passion, and they happen to be approaching with more of that cheese, or maybe the meatballs or the calamari, it'd be churlish to deny them their joy. Just say yes. For me, I'm not so sure the moussakas hit the mark, but maybe that's just the weather on the day. Wasn't a lasagne-like dish topped with mash kind of day. I'll have to go back again, just to be sure. The nice thing is, I know it won't break the bank, I know I'll feel welcome, and I know I'll be looking to find out what that other cheese is called. And really, they've done me a favour. I can never eat supermarket haloumi again. So dosing up at the Greek is a healthy fried-cheese-eating decision. Phew. read more

I really really want to love this place... It's got a great vibe and is buzzing most nights of the week.. I've given it 4 stars this time but we only ordered coffee and desert.. The desert we ordered was no longer available so we chose the GALACTOBOURIKO which was devine & inhaled within seconds!! the coffee was hot & delicious .. Other than our first desert option not being available, my only negative was the time it took.. Just for desert it took a while for our order to be taken (10-15mins)then again another wait for our desert to arrive (15mins).. It was a week night & restuarant was about half full, we had got there after the dinner rush so most tables were either finishing their meals, having desert or leaving.. Am hoping it was just a once off and when we go back for a meal soon - will update the review ;) read more

My favorite Greek restaurant. Like the lamb souvlaki which comes with rice. Huge portion. Good place to celebrate a birthday. The retsina wine is lovely. Enjoyed breakfast here on Friday morning and was really impressed. The food was great, not pretentious and was a good size at a reasonable price. Nice quiet street atmosphere and the staff were very pleasant. I had the Galliko Proino which i guess was their version of Eggs Bennedict and it was delicious. My wife had the Halifax Scramble which she said was also delicious and quite substantial for her. For those looking for a slightly off the crowded path breakfast place then this is for you. The Greek has great food and excellent friendly staff and service. I do find it very pricey though so only go on special occasions. I find it best to order one menu item at a time because the food does get cold very quickly. As another reviewer mentioned the cream kataifi is delicious. I have tried many others and this is the best by far. I was told it is made lovingly by their grandmother. I can tell when it's been made by someone else. She has a real skill and talent for flavour. While I find the food expensive I can't help but grab a kataifi when ever I'm in the vicinity. The Revani Greek Orange Semolina cake is awesome too and I don't even like orange cakes. read more

This used to be our go to place for weekend breaky.. but alas no more. Menu has been severely cut back and missing classics like Halifax scramble, my all time favourite. Even the standard cooked breakfast is now limited to just egg & bacon .. no options for tomato, mushrooms, haloumi, spinach etc. The marvellous whole grain sourdough bread was also absent. Unfortunately this now makes breakfast pretty average, so we'll be heading back to our other favs like Rosie's & Queen Street. Such a pity. read more

No, not the guy from season two of The Wire (I hope someone gets this). The one 'On Halifax' .The purveyor of Geek cuisine in Adelaide. The one that's won millions of award for quite simply being the best. You can't miss it, considering the gigantic red brink chimney jutting out the top. It's a great place, service is amiable and expedient. There is a nice selection of wines to pursue over and all very reasonable in price. The food, flippin' fantastic. I scanned over the menu and the 'Collosus' struck my eye. What I got was a exquisite place of lamb yiros, sovlaki, laoukaniko (sausague) served of a bed of rice. I'm not particularity fond of Greek food normally, or am in extremely dislike of either. I have to say I was extremely satisfied after dining here. Hadn't been to the Greek for several years so popped in after some hectic Rundle Mall shopping action on Saturday for a late lunch. We were promptly seated and given menus and decided on a few of the Mezze plates - the calamari (a test of a true Greek restaurant), the chick pea fritters, the mussels from the specials menu and the taramasalata with pita bread. Unfortunately we forgot to ask for it to come out in stages so everything arrived at once about ten minutes after ordering. The dip and pita bread was yummy, the bread so light and delicious. The calamari very lightly cooked and tender (yes it passed the test), the mussels were plentiful and garlicky as expected, the chick pea fritters (can't remember what they were actually called) were soft and moist. Why didn't the Greek get more stars? One or two little things, one was the food was just a little salty, the other reason was after we were served our food, the two staff members forgot we were there! It took ages for us to get a refill of our drinks, the guy behind the bar more interested in the Lycra clad cyclist who had popped in for a real Greek coffee. Other than that, still great food, maybe just cut down a smidge on the salt or alternatively keep the drinks coming!! read more
