The Green Dragon Inn probably sounds familiar to you, because it's called the same thing as the pub in the Shire from the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit books and movies.
Even though this is a "theme" bar/pub, it actually is fantastic in the food and drinks you can get there!
Your visit to the Green Dragon Inn comes at the end of your tour of Hobbiton, and you will definitely have built up a little appetite for a snack or drink after all the walking around and viewing of amazing things.
The Inn itself is crafted to appear exactly as it looked in the films, so you will want to take a ton of photos here too. There is a giant carved bar with the namesake "green dragon" etched over it masterfully.
There's also a bar where you can see the actual barrels of ale that The Green Dragon Inn serves. It has adorable little details like copper kettles hanging from the ceiling and the little pewter cups you'll drink your ale out of!
They have a fireplace area to sit and warm up/ponder a few things as well, while you sip on your beverage. If you're in a larger party, there are several tables around the center of the inn with seating for all, also.
Your Hobbiton tour includes a drink from The Green Dragon Inn. They have a brewery specifically for Hobbiton called Southfarthing, and you can choose from two different (alcoholic) ales, an alcoholic cider, or (non-alcoholic) ginger beer - if you have children who want a drink too, or you don't drink alcohol yourself.
We had both the Sackville Cider and the Girdley Fine Grain Amber Ale.
-The Amber Ale was a darker and richer color that was very full in flavor with a little bit of caramel and herby taste to it. This was definitely refreshing after a long day of walking the Shire.
-The Cider was tart and crisp, with just the slightest amount of alcohol flavor (almost none!) so it was very refreshing to the palate.
There is also food for purchase at The Green Dragon Inn, and the food is excellent! We had a scone that was gigantic and came with a tangy jam, a hefty meat pie that was out-of-this-world delicious, and a dense little chocolate cake that was covered in crisscross white icing and almost tasted like a very fancy Oreo!
If you're already doing the Hobbiton tour and stopping for your Ale/drink at The Green Dragon Inn, I would definitely also grab some little bites to have with your drink, because everything there is soooo tasty. If I didn't live almost 8,000 miles away, I would be there every day! read more
