Great stop for lunch when passing through town. The Hereford Beef & Bacon Burger was delicious!

In the "busy" part of Otorohanga, we came here on the recommendation of our B&B host. It was quite crowded but they found a seat for us. Sort of a long wait before we ordered and then even longer before getting our food. Spaghetti Aglio e olio with prawns, squid, chili, olives, garlic and Parmesan. Carbonara includes chicken, bacon, white wine sauce, garlic, cream and Parmesan. Very well made from the noodles to the plump shrimp. An excellent choice all around. Weta Famous Chicken This is their signature dish - chicken breast poached in creamy white wine sauce, served with corn, carrots, and baby roasted potatoes. Parts of the chicken were somewhat dry, but the unique sauce (hints of mushroom, fennel and corn) helps keep it moist. Waratah Farms Pork Belly Locally raised pork in Waikato braised in house served with apple sauce, seasonal vegetables and cider jus. Normally with diced kumara (sweet potatoes) but they were out so replaced with a regular roasted potatoes. The pork skin is super thick, both crunchy and soft. Loved the small circles of apple compote surrounding the plate. There was a good service recovery moment when we had to wait to be seated after initially being denied accommodation. Food made up for much of the experience. That's all.

We got in late after doing the Caves and had the bar menu. Their food was AMAZING and the chef was super accommodating as we had someone in our party that had a few additional requests. The butter chicken pizza was hands down one of the best things I ate the entire holiday! We had the Milky Bar Pudding after which was absolutely incredible! 10,000% would stop here to experience their full menu if I was able to! To top it off our Waiter (Rana) was very kind and on top of taking care of us!

Maybe the barista/server was having an off day, but the guy was so rude. Ordered a macchiato/ americano, with eggs and sausage. The macchiato was abit on the really strong side asked for a bit more milk on the side. The guy totally got upset at the request. The young lady was friendly and had smiles. But the guy was rude and it just didn't make us want to be there. Had a few sips and called it a day.

On our way to Waitomo, I started to get the feel that there wouldn't be much once we arrived to our destination. So we decided to check out Otorohanga. By 5pm, I'd say that 98% of the shops and restaurants were closed. Which left us with Thirsty Weta. There were people inside, a good sign, we just wanted to get some food into our belly. No beers since we still had to drive a little bit more. Oh how I wish I could have had a beer. We ordered a pizza to share and some roti bread that was baked with olive oil and sea salt. Overall it was a decent meal. The weta is a bug that lives in this part of the country. They are big and look almost like a grasshopper. We found one in our hotel the next morning after eating at this bar. Hope it was a sign of good luck?

Amazing service with fun conversation and great travel tips! Shane was amazing! Will definitely make our way back here. Food and drinks were great and they even accommodated by pesce-vegan sister. Lol. We had the lamb Shank, salt and pepper squid and pan-fried snapper with beer battered french fries! So good!

    Green Mussels ...so good!

First of all...I don't know why this place only has 3.5 stars. We had a very good experience here. As my roommate and I walked in the door...we were promptly greeted and the staff were very friendly. We chatted for a bit with the waitress and she discussed the menu with us and specials. This place seems like the local spot in town. Very heart warming and they hold various events and games. I got a very tasty glass of prosecco. Then I ordered the Green Mussels!! Best decision ever. These Mussels are actually green like it states on the menu. They were the most meaty and tasting Mussels I have ever had. They were also very big. They were in garlic and wine sauce. I highly recommend getting these. The burger I ordered was pretty good. The mussel portion was very large...which I didn't expect...so I didn't have much appetite for the burger after. My roommate got the seafood pizza and says it was pretty good. We did not get dessert here. Overall the experience was good!

King Country Brewing Company pale ale

Stopped in here for lunch on the way back to Hamilton from Waitomo. There was a "craft brew" sign outside which hooked us. There restaurant itself has a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating. The servers were very friendly and attentive. My husband tried the King Country Brewing Company pale ale and cider. He liked them both and so did I. There were a few scattered televisions showing cricket World Cup games. We weren't hopeful for awesome food, figured it would be standard pub fare. And though some of the selections were standard, the quality actually surprised us. I had a warm couscous salad with roasted veggies and opted for the grilled chicken add-on. It was really tasty, with feta, roasted eggplant, kumara, parsnip and potatoes and gently wilted arugula. The serving was larger than I expected and plenty for a full meal. My husband had the Guinness beef pie with fries. We both put it as above average. There's something to be said for simple things made deliciously. Will definitely stop here again as the pickings in Otorohonga seem a little slim anyway.

Wets sirloin steak sandwich is delicious with fresh local greens and thick country fried. Fish and chips is meaty and less bread layered.

It's actually located in the old Gothenberg spot on Hood Street. When you walk in, you notice the same sense of style and aethetics that make Gothenberg so pleasant and enjoyable. Craft specializes in pizzas, sliders and beer. Now, the sign out front does actually say that, but if you are looking for something OTHER than those things, then move on. The menu is somewhat limited in that respect. However, in terms of the variety and quality of the pizza and sliders, you won't be left wanting. I came here without the kiddos and with my husband and in-laws, who were visiting from the States. My husband was very happy with the beer selection (I was the driver none for me that night). Though the food is pizza and burgers, you definitely are getting the upper-end version of these items (not typical pub-type fare). The flavor palate is interesting and tasty (and if you ever had the sliders at Gothenburg, you'd have a sense of what is on offer at Craft). The servers were great and friendly. It's wasn't too busy, but it was a Wednesday night. They have some lounge type indoor seating, and some "social" types of seating (e.g. long, high top tables, a high-top counter along the wall) and may well get crowded on a busier night. They have also maintained some of the outdoor seating that was there from Gothenburg as well. All in all, I'll be back again on a future date night. They might be perfectly happy to have your children there, but I don't intend to find out :)

The inside is pretty small and intimate and has romantic lighting and a cozy collection of tables and chairs. Our server was very friendly and helpful at pointing out the gluten free options on their menu. I had the pasta marinara with seafood which came out beautifully plated and tasted delicious. The husband enjoyed a nice crispy beer battered snapper and fries. We'd heard they have a great dessert menu but were honestly too full to try anything.
