Popping up just in time for summer, Fat Fish fills a hole that was all but tailored to them. Here is a nice shady spot for take away fish and chips in Annandale, that means the residents of this little village don't have to travel to Balmain or Glebe for good fish and chips and allows for them to shop local - an important factor for this village community. Fat Fish has a great range of salads (at least 12 different options) and prices are fair - fish and one salad for $10; fish, chips and salad for $11.50. You get a decent serving for your money, and not only is your fillet of fish large (I wish I could catch fish that big) but it is cooked to perfection - moist, softly flakey and delicious. Their menu also has a couple of good burgers and seafood packs, as well as offering grilled baby octopus, sushi and killpatrick and mornay oysters (4 for $10), but the pre-cheesed/baconed display of these oysters turned me off. They also sell fresh fish for you to cook yourself and they use only 100% cholesterol free Australian vegetable oil. There's a subtle mariner theme to this shop, with painted wooden boards hung on the wall. A couple of basic white tables are dotted inside and out the front of the shop, surrounded by stocky wooden stools. It's not a dine-in experience, but they're providing you with the option if you want it.
