7/2019 update: Not sure what's going on here, tons of turn over and definitely the quality of stylists has declined. We've gone back twice and tried 2 different stylists. This time I showed her pictures and my son came out 10 mins later with not the cut in the picture. My other sons cut looks really choppy, she took about 10 mins on it too, but I'm waiting to see how it is after it's washed and dried to decide if we need to go back. Really disappointed, I was hoping to find a good regular local spot. Took my 2 and 4 year olds here to fix my attempts to cut their hair Hannah was great with both of them, quick and easy and even styled it for boWe were in and out in a half hour. Doesn't hurt that it's in an old train station either, my guys thought that was pretty sweet. For under $40 for both (with tip) we will be regulars! read more

My husband has been here twice and both time has gotten a mediocre haircut. It lacks pride in the details, confidence is missing from the barber. The ambiance of the feel of the place is spot on, and the price matches the spot but not the cut. It worked in a pinch but he was expecting more. Still looking for a good barber. read more

I went here on Tuesday without an appointment as I was in from out of town. I do agree the listing says by appointment only, however the woman who was at the first chair by the door was so rude I am glad they didn't have time. She stated the next available appointment was Thursday. Her chair was empty, and nobody waiting. Maybe try, sir if you don't mind waiting another 5-10 min, so see if he shows, if not maybe I can fit you in. Or what time on Thursday would you like, I have 3 and 4:30 available. The best haircut in Ames, without a doubt. (Extremely) reasonable prices, excellent ambiance, friendly staff -- but truly the best haircut. If you're looking shaggy, don't bother with anywhere else. I've been coming here for two years, and I've never had a bad cut. I'm not really good at describing what I want, but Aiden and Troy always do a great job of taking my vague words and translating them into a killer haircut. These folks have a passion for men's hair. The place looked great and it's great that I can book online. I actually was able to get in because somebody canceled. I had some ideas of what I wanted and they also have input that would make the cut better for my hair. They also gave tips on styling. They do a hot razer neck shave and a brief shoulder massage as part of the cut. This is my new spot. The professionalism, the amazing cut I got, the services, and their knowledge is the best I've seen. read more

If anyone who follows my reviews knows, I don't give 5 star flattery very often. These guys and with the case of my "groomer" Hannah, deserve the five stars! I came here from the yelp.com reviews, because my usual guy in DSM is super busy now and I needed something before (or en route) to North Iowa for a few days. Anthony is great. I had been searching for a decent place to get my haircut in Ames for 3 years and the groom room finally had what I was looking for. Went there for the first time today, and it was the best experience I have ever had while getting a haircut. The employees take their time they really try hard to make your experience comfortable and enjoyable. The employees are all really friendly and knowledgeable. I had Jason cut my hair and he make me feel welcome and he continuously asked me questions to make sure the haircut was exactly what I wanted. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone in and around Ames. I will definitely be back when its time for another haircut! read more
