I went in for a cut since my hair had grown to the band of my pants and need to be raised a bit and my layers had grown out. My hair was lovely, but very grown out. The issue was really that it looked lifeless since the layers had all grown together. Since it was my first time at this salon, I brought in 6 pictures of me right after a haircut I liked (all 6 in which my hair is about belly button length) as well as my favorite hair product (a mid/long-length hair product). I told her my mom wanted a lock of hair as well while we're at it. She said okay and that she'd go get a ponytail for that. What I couldn't have known is that she got 2 ponytail holders, placed them a foot apart, and without any warning about the jaw-dropping act to come, sliced over 12 inches of ponytail off. Gone. I still have this horrible reminder in my possession. I only realized what happened when I reached my hand behind my head and didn't find hair where hair had just been. To this moment, I'm at a loss as to why anyone would slice a 12 inch ponytail off. It really only got worse from there. I specifically said many times that I have naturally curly hair and don't like them to show. I don't curl my hair- curls nowhere- no curls. We hadn't finished our cut when I'm not sure why but she went to wash my hair and then proceeded to curl the ends really horribly. I stopped her when I realized and asked for her please not to do that because I don't like that. She put a wet product in her hands and tried to pull out the curls which of course curls the ends more in curly hair. Although we hadn't finished a haircut prior to washing... it was not anything I'd given any okay to... she decided hey we're done voila! As I was leaving, I couldn't see the haircut because of all the fluffy curl (except that it was all gone- but what can be done about that now??) but I kept repeating that it felt like a lot of weight was at my neck. There's a lot of weight all sitting right on my neck. I got bustled out the door as there were people waiting and was told to try it and that we could trim it later. When I got to do my hair later as I normally would (and as it looked in all my pictures I'd taken in), there was none of the haircut I asked for. I asked for short layers in long hair and I had really what looked like not much shape at all in short hair. I had this he-man style hunchback -bulbous shape on my neck and really wasn't sure what to do at that point. 12 inches of my hair senselessly gone before the haircut even started. When I reached out to the salon and insisted it had to be someone else who might manipulate it into something wearable, I received a text- not asking me what happened- but telling me that I should let that person cut my hair again- the person who'd sliced well over half of my lovely hair off. I don't have anywhere near 12 inches of hair left. They did refund my money and I had it straightened and shaped elsewhere, but it's hideous, unmanageable, and uncomfortable 24 hours a day. I've never had short hair, I've never wanted short hair, and none of the hairstyles I enjoy wearing in my hair work. It's expensive to buy all of the things I suddenly needed- a new brush (mine were all 2.5 diameter brushes which are now a joke), tiny clips and ponytail holders, and hair scarves so I can see to get work done. I now have to go through a re-growth process and hope I can get my hair back which means more frequent haircuts, vitamins, and a new straightener that might be easier on my hair while I try to get length back. read more
