I was on a walk and saw that Redwood Roots was open in the evening hours (hard workin' ladies, a good sign) and asked for availability for a cut. I was calling around trying to find an appointment for a Brazilian wax, as I didn't want to wait until next week to get it done at my usual spot (yes, I already have an appointment booked, just not as soon as I'd like). Upon called the number listed here, specifically because it states that waxing is a service provided, I had the following (completely unprofessional) conversation happen: The person answering the phone did not state the name of their business or ask how they could help me. They simply yelled "Hello!?" Into the phone as if answering was an inconvenience. When I asked them if I had the correct number (as I had no frame of reference at all who I had called) and if this was in fact a hair and waxing salon they said "No, it's only a hair salon." Ok.... Figured I'd inform them that Yelp has one of their services listed as "waxing". Her response? "Well, what do you want waxed?" (Note, I am still being yelled at). I told her I was looking for a Brazilian wax, at which point this person thought it was appropriate and professional to LAUGH loudly into the phone as if I had just told and extremely funny joke and said "Good luck!" I asked, "I'm sorry, is there something funny about that?" Because I'm very confused at this point why this interaction is happening at all. She responds, "No one does that here, good luck!" Realistically there are plenty of places that do, and do a very good job, I was simply trying to see if I could get squeezed in sooner than my already scheduled appointment. If I could leave 0 stars I would, not only unprofessional but down right rude. Do not recommend. Wouldn't be surprised if this was someone working a "salon" out of their living room.

Street parking seems to be pretty crowded in this area. A friend and I went to Christine for a haircut and she did a marvelous job. Unfortunately they only accept cash or check. The staff was very friendly (and so were some of the other patrons!) There were a few elderly ladies in the building, having their hair cut by another stylist. Their discussion was quite interesting to listen to. I found out which doctor to go to if I need to have a colonoscopy done. Their reasoning behind their choice was that (apparently) the doctor is rather hot, but I assume he does a thorough job as well.

When I remembered I was going to get a haircut a few days later, instead of the original planned barber visit I decided to go to the place that had been so helpful earlier in the week. Melinda was competent, professional, asked questions and made suggestions, and gave me the best haircut and beard trim I'd had in a long time; and at a reasonable price!
