Mr. Scott Silva came out and provided a bid on second floor apartment we were about to rent. It…read morerequired painting in all six rooms including kitchen and bath. Mr. Silva was prompt and gave good suggestions on the project which had not been done in years. He even gave a proposal and cost estimate on the spot which is one of the reason we selected him. However after that point things did not turn out as expected. He first had a problem with his crew which delayed the project by a couple of days the first week and then two more days lost the second week due to other emergency jobs. Then he had truck problems. He started complaining he was losing money on my job. In the start of the second week we saw the bathroom was in bad shape and need to be gutted around the tub and new mold resistant drywall installed with vinyl wall cover. He used regular drywall which I had to remove because it was not mold resistant. I even checked the label of the drywall and and it said USG Imperial drywall and the board was gray in color not green. But there is more we asked Mr. Silva if he could do the bathroom job and he said yes at $400.00 per bathroom for the first and second apartment. We asked him if we could pay for the second bathroom in 30 days on trade credit. However since he had the first bathroom completed he had not finished the original painting project. During the second week he had run out of paint and said he needed more money to buy the paint. We thought that since he was going to do two bathrooms with one on credit we could pay him the balance of the painting job. I even had him sign a note that said he received the final check but did not complete the painting job. Thinking this would cover me to have him come back and complete any work not done.Wrong move. After we spotted wrong drywall being used he ordered his men to stop work even though he said he would tear out the drywall and replace with mold resistant drywall. He then cashed check for the completed painted work even though it was not done. I tried to reach the contractor and his answering service said he is not able to receive calls at this time. I ended up having another contractor installed backerboard around the tub which better than green mold resistant drywall for the bathroom. I also finished the bathroom, completed the painting repaired the closets which were not done. So my suggestion is not to hire this contractor for any work. Also never pay this contractor or any other contractor in full until the work is done to your satisfaction. And third be careful about change orders and adding one job on top of another. Fourth look for the signs during the project and if they are negative stop the project and get someone else immediately.
