We came for Avatar the Last Airbender concert and it was really pretty inside. The amount of seats kind of surpassed my expectations from how small the entrance looked from the outside. They serve soda from the Polar brand because, hello you're in Worcester, home of Polar. Popcorn is alright, it's not popped fresh like some theaters, but rather, prepackaged. Bar drink menu was decent. Staff is decent. The stage was smaller than I expected. Parking is terrible though. When you go to a packed concert like this, all the streets are filled and even the parking garage nearby is filled from top to bottom. Best to go early to find parking even if it's not good. read more

This is a classic and beautiful theater, built between 1902 and 1904 in the Renaissance style. It's been modernized and updated with $32 million in restorations, and I think the theater looks great. A few years ago, I enjoyed a guided tour of the theater, which provided a great background if its rich history highlighting the entertainment offered from vaudeville to contemporary performances. This evening's show was the comedic performance of Clue! I've also seen Jerry Seinfeld, Swan Lake, and many other great performances here. The tours are offered periodically, and they have a very active event calendar, you can check it out on their website https://thehanovertheatre.org/event/ for upcoming events. Compared to Broadway's theaters, the comfortable seats offer palatial legroom, and the Hanover seats 2,300 people, almost 20% larger than the largest theater on Broadway. The theater offers attendees beautiful architectural details, a seven-foot-tall chandelier and the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ with 2,495 pipes (no I didn't count those). Less opulant than I am used to. Beautiful chandelier but is missing the fancy feeling of heading to the theatre based on my home theatre. It was raining, they were very slow getting people in the door. Although they did pop up two small tents to try and save people in the rain. Even getting out, I am not sure why bottlenecking happens here. I am used to easy movement before and after shows. What's up Worcester? Either way, clean theatre. We saw Beetlejuice at The Hanover on January 3, 2024. The venue is gorgeous, beautifully restored. The seats on orchestra right row H are very comfortable, and well spaced! Tall people don't feel as though our knees are tucked under our chins. The venue is immaculate! Lighting was gorgeously done! Sound was ok. I wear bilateral hearing aids so expected to miss a few lines here and there. But, my 20 yo told me she couldn't hear some of the dialogue every now and then. I would still recommend the venue! Parking nearby was plentiful and inexpensive! $7.42 for four hours!! read more

Had the worst experience last night at the Hanover to see the Australian Pink Floyd Experience as I bought row A tix seats 5 & 7 & we couldn't even see the whole stage only half of it & couldn't see 2 of the musicians at all ! Was very disappointed & said that on a survey that Hanover sent earlier. After this experience I will never again see a show there ! The band & music were great but the seating & view left both of us disgusted as we couldn't see half the stage & show ! Shame on you Hanover for getting greedy & selling those worthless tickets & will never again support you ! I know benefactors that belong to there & reached out & they couldn't believe it. Beautiful theater. Old school. beautifully maintained. Smallish. I don't think there is a lousy seat in the house. Parking is really easy and convenient. The Federal Place garage is across the street. And an open lot on Myrtle Street, right behind the theatre. Both lots were $15 (November'19). Pretty easy access from I-290. I did have a bit of trouble finding tickets. I went to see Dance Theatre of Harlem. Which was sponsored by Music Worcester. So I could not find any information about the performance on the Hanover Theatre web site. So a more inclusive website would make this even better. read more

We've always had the best time going here. It's hard to believe that this place is in Worcester. The building is absolutely beautiful and parking has never been a problem. The shows can be expensive but worth the price. I remember when it used to be a movie theater, this is so much better. If you ever need something to do plan ahead and see a show. Just saw "To Kill a Mockingbird". Who at this venue thinks it is a great idea to serve snacks, cookies, in cellophane? All I could hear throughout the entire dramatic play was the rustling. Almost as annoying as the ushers on their phones constantly. What a shame, it's a beautiful venue. read more

Visited the Hanover, and it's just a beautiful venue. So lovely and small enough where every seat is a good one. Some issues -- the bar lines are ridiculously long. I was planning to grab a drink, but decided not to, as I'd miss the beginning of the show. Also, the concession stand leaves EVERYTHING to be desired. There were no choices in food or drink. The snacks were so limited and all sweet (cookies, whoopie pies, etc) from a local bakery. Can you not even grab a value pack of bags of chips? Perhaps a popcorn machine? I had no idea if the show had an opening act (which I tried several time to find out from the venue to no avail), so I came early. Well, that meant I skipped dinner, but figured there'd be something to snack on there. Wrong. Aside from all this, the staff were friendly, and I'd go to another show here -- just better prepared! read more

Gorgeous theater and like many things in Worcester - so accessible. Right downtown with a parking garage across the street. When you buy tickets online you can even pre-pay for your parking pass. These are the things you care about when shlepping wiggly children across the street! I have only been to family/kid-centric performances and they have all been well worth the money: Daniel Tiger Live!, Nutcracker, Disney Junior Dance Party. Staff and volunteers are helpful and sweet. Theater is well-kept and the bathrooms are clean. Bring cash if you plan to buy (GIANT!!!) cookies or whoopie pies. A real gem in Worcester. We are lucky to have it! read more

Nice theater ... but the show selection is a little blah. And I really take issue with the fact they charge $7 - $10 per ticket for 'handling charges' and $2 each ticket for some kind of 'restoration fee'. Its not like they use ticketmaster ... they have their own ticketing section on their website. It seems strange to me that they would charge such a high handling fee for tickets purchased over the website and picked up at the box office instead of being mailed. There is virtually no handling that needs to be done of these tickets. The theater itself looks brand new inside. But is kind of similar to any other theater of its kind I have been to. Also, it is not at all handicap/elderly friendly. Would only go to a show here if it was amazing. Most of the shows are overpriced lecturers or off-broadway productions of broadway type shows. Or Vegas acts who are touring off-Vegas. Meh seems about right. read more

Can't believe they closed the parking lot behind the theatre for their new entity on Franklin st. That's where people that are elderly and with handicaps park. Went to the parking garage they recommend and had to park on the top floor as it was full. Took the elevator to main level and discovered only two pay to park kiosks. We left the show Annie at intermission so we could get out before every one trying to pay and garage before floors 1-5 would leave. So disappointed about the lot being closed to the hanover patrons for something they just opened. read more

The Hanover is just as awesome as any theatre in Boston! It's close to home and plenty of parking. The shows are always top notch! The only complaint I have is the seats! I am only 5'5" and it is not comfortable at all in those seats. My knees touch the seat in front of me, which is fine if nobody is sitting next to you or in front of you. If you are any taller I wouldn't even bother going. read more

Saw the Donna Summer show at the theater. Seats were spacious (2nd row balcony). Smaller theater - great seats. Cheaper than Broadway or Boston. There is a parking garage right across the street. Not a lot of places to eat, but we had a delicious ramen bowl at Chachu ramen. Upscale restaurant with a bar. The neighborhood is in transition, look forward to attending more events in the future. read more

Did someone say Theater in Worcester??? Can you flippin' believe it?? Did someone say free parking and plenty of it too?? OMG Broadway shows here?? Yup you can cause I went there to see Chicago and it was awesome! The theater is gorgeous! It was redone to the max and this theater can outshine some of the ones in Boston...easily. Sorry Boston, only my little opinion... We parked over at the Seven Hills Plaza and since the businesses are only opened during the day and during the week, it was all free and was only 1 block from the theater. Once inside, the staff was friendly, helpful and they all smiled and talked to you. There were 2 bars, one on the first level and another on the 2nd level that overlooked the first level. Light and airy decor, gorgeous chandeliers and beautiful carpeting. Very plush with understated class. Our seats were in the balcony and we could see pretty well. The sound system was great, heard everything and no bouncing off the walls and no reverberations. The seats were comfy and roomy. It was a little warm up there but not horrible either. Al in all a great experience and I'm sooo happy that I can go to a show and I don't have to travel to NYC or Boston and pay outrageous prices for anything and be home in 10 minutes. How can you beat that? My only wish is that some of the local restaurants should stay open for people coming out. They are missing a gold mine here. We had to drive all the way to Park Ave to get something to eat. Not good people. read more

We've seen two shows at the Hanover Theater. The first was a matinee performance of Movin' Out in November of 2008. We saw it from the main floor, our seats were in the right center, just under the balcony. The show was good. There were two pianos and a band playing Billy Joel music, with incredible sound in the theater. The performers were good, and the seats were good. We decided we'd be back. This June, we went to see an evening performance of Chicago. We sat in the balcony this time, left center, row M, just above the mid-point in the balcony. The sound in the balcony was pretty bad, the speakers were not pointed toward the balcony, so much of the performance was just the orchestra, with feint vocals. We still had a good time, since we knew the show, and could mentally sing along. The other problem we had with the balcony was the heat. The temperature outside was in the low 70's, so it wasn't that warm, but the AC couldn't keep up inside. The theater is very nice, it's either been well taken care of or renovated, or both. They have bars on two floors, and both times we've been there, they've had what seems to be homemade treats for sale. The parking in the area is easy to get to, the garage across the street from the theater charges $10 for parking during the show. So, one very good experience, one so-so. We'll probably go back again, but not sit in the balcony next time. read more

After a charity event that I attended here was ending, the curator over heard a group of us taking about the unusual painting of Washington to stage left of the organ. (Its George Washington posed next to just a huge horses ass) He started cracking us up with stories and interesting antidotes about the place. We all really enjoyed his stories and the time he took to really cap of a great event in this beautiful space. The place was clean and well maintained but, I'm giving this place 5 stars because when the staff of any place is passionate and knowledgeable and makes the extra effort to share that with its patrons, nothing makes me happier than to select that 5 star option, and to encourage you to consider this beautiful venue for your next event. read more

I have gone to charitable concert and a musical in the last 2 weeks, great for a night out with the wife. The inside of the building is beautiful and all of the seats seem to have a good view of the stage. You can buy top level seats for as little as 10$ per ticket depending on the show, and there is a parking garage across the street for $10. Easy to get to and get to your seat. My interaction with the ticketing office was also positive. Only complaint is the rows are not evenly spaced and some rows do not have enough leg room. read more

The reopening of the Hanover Theatre is a great addition to the nightlife/cultural scene in Worcester--it actually gives me motivation to make the drive out there for a night out. I've seen a couple of shows here so far and have enjoyed my experience immensely each time. Ticket prices are a little more reasonable than they are for the Boston theatres and parking is way cheaper. Don't bother paying for the garage parking across the street; metered parking is plentiful in the area if you're willing to walk a few blocks. There's a big municipal lot near the library with metered parking and I assure you, it's not a scary walk to the theatre. Some people have this notion that Worcester is one giant cesspool of a city with thugs waiting to mug you at every turn and it just isn't true. Getting back to the theatre, the Hanover hosts a variety of shows, including touring Broadway companies, concerts, and local college productions. The building is beautiful inside and out with white columns and lots of marble. The actual theatre isn't overly ornate, but understated and classy. I'll second what Eric T. says about there being a lot of leg room. I'm a big guy as well, and at other theatres, I am usually having to constantly shift in my seat to remain comfortable, but at the Hanover I don't have any trouble sitting still through a 2-3 hour production. So anyways, the best part of the Hanover is if you live in central/western MA, now you, too, can go see professional theatrical productions in a magnificent venue without the hassle of driving or taking the T into Boston. A welcome and much needed addition to Massachusetts' second largest city. read more

The Hanover is a really beautiful theater right downtown in worcester. They have great shows including musicians, musicals, and game/TV shows (dancing with the stars!). Parking is ample and is $10 at the garage across the street. Easy in/ easy out. There are 2 bars and also on the first floor they always have a local bistro selling cookies, sandwiches and pastries. The food is good, reasonably priced, and local. However, you can't take food into the theater with you. They also have coffee and hot chocolate. The shows are top notch. The seats are comfy. Broadway theater in Worcester? Check. The newly renovated Hanover Theater for the Performing Arts bring Broadway to wormtown while also featuring such upcoming acts as BB King and George Carlin. The former movie theater has been beautifully renovated and bears a resemblance to such grand halls as the Opera House and Colonial Theater in Boston. I just saw Stomp there with the folks and can honestly saw the Hanover is a top notch theater. It doesn't have the character of neighboring Mechanics Hall but it's a great venue to see a show. Well done Worcester. The AC works (if anything a bit too much), the bath rooms are spacious, and our balcony seats had plenty of leg room. read more

Just visited the Hanover to see Neil Young's solo show and was very impressed with the venue. We had no problems parking on a side street about a quarter mile away and were impressed by how well done the restorations were. It's not quite as elaborate as the Wang (not much is) but it was very nicely done and Neil sounded great (no echos or dead zones.) They had beer on sale for $5 (not bad considering what you pay at Fenway or any similar location in Boston) and well-placed facilities so you never had to miss much of the show. I was very impressed and will keep an eye on their bookings to find another excuse to visit. My only complaint (and the only reason this in not a five-star review) is that the seats are at bit cramped for a 6'3 guy like myself. That could have been fixed when it was restored and only cost the a seat per row at best. read more

We went to see Last Comic Standing here this past weekend. The theatre was quite beautiful inside, much larger than it looks from the outside. Very classic looking and well kept. Gorgeous detailing on the ceiling, brilliant chandeliers hanging, comfy seats, classic decor. The ushers and staff were very professional, smartly dressed and very helpful with a smile on their face. A very big thumbs up for the staff. We parked for free at the Library (as it was after hours, its usually cheap metered parking during daytime hours) which is just a few minutes walk around the block - some people were paying $5 for 'event parking' at the Social security office/funeral home which is directly across the street - so save yourself a few bucks for drinks inside. We had seats for the upper balcony, section 300 - all I will say is never ever again lol. We could barely see the stage from where we were, especially with people sitting in front of you (some with big heads, others with big up-hairdos :)). As it was a comedy show, seeing wasn't of the utmost importance as long as you could hear the jokes. But it was a real bummer not to be able to see the stage/comic more than 70% of the time. I read in another review that there was enough space in the rows to walk through without others having to stand up - hmmm, that must've been in the lower levels because up in the sky, I mean balcony, that certainly wasn't the case. There was barely enough room without your knees up against the chair in front of you. It certainly discouraged us from getting any drinks (or using the restrooms) during the show as everyone would have to get up for you to go out. All in all, a good experience there. I would advice not to buy upper balcony seats. If you cannot afford the lower level, the loge seemed like it would be an okay view. Happy Broadway-ing folks. read more
