About twice a year we make use of 'cheaper' breaks offered in various national newspapers. However,…read morehaving booked we were unsure that this particular break would go ahead due to the coronavirus pandemic. We had received notification that money would be refunded but that wasn't necessary as the village re-opened on out date. Albeit without swimming pool and entertainment. This didn't really bother us as, at our age, we are passed it.
On the day we were given a booking in time of 7.00 pm. Registration took ages but, again, blame the coronavirus.
OK, down to what the village offered during this pandemic. The shop was open, on time every morning for those things that had been forgotten and, of course, a newspaper. The bar was open during the day and evening. Those guys stuck strictly to the corona guidelines. It must have been difficult but they carried it through with a smile and a joke. One young lady gave us the easiest way to get into St Ives (parking is hopeless). Use the Park and ride train. Thank you for that tip.
As I have said they are the friendliest bunch of guys and gals. Even wished us a safe journey home. They deserve five stars.
Now down to the accommodation. As I said we have used the National Newspaper breaks many times using Hoseasons, Haven and Parkdean. This is the first time we have used John Fowler and it will be the last. I can only say that the 'cabin' was shabby. Clean and sanitised inside but cobwebs everywhere on the outside. Needed a good hosedown. Tiny TV on a table. Not that we watch much TV when away but if a family had children and the weather was bad they would'nt be too happy. New microwave, oven, cutlery and utensils. Hob was so old and difficult to cook by as it was either hot or cold. Rusty fridge. Seating cracked and smelly, Table seating dangerously rickety. Shower was more than adequate.
So, John Fowler you get one star. Thank your staff for making it two. They were the crowning glory to a crappy three nights.
