The Tulsa Oddities and Curiosities had a bit more vendors and show guests this year. So the whole atmosphere did not dissapoint the dark hobby enthusiasts one bit. Dressing up and hanging out is encouraged. 2025 was in the mirth books for sure. I recommend checking out the antique and unique booths next time!!

Line for beverages was a 30 minute wait at minimum up to an hour in line, but I believe they will adjust for that next year. Irish clubs (including Irish Setter Club, how cute those guys were!!) had booths, travel agents with trip to Ireland, a few fun venders. One amazing vender was an artist who made sulpture from Limestone. How amazing he was! Man he was out of sight!!

i love that the mayfest event website described its 3rd weekend festivities of the new event every…read moreweekend format as showcasing local artists at the mother road market, and then when you arrive, there is no blocked off section with flashing lights or sign saying "here is local artist showcase", so there is a aspect of attendants setting the theme, which i'd interpreted as akin to "where is local art?" nonetheless, in the mix of restaurants, franchise branches and standalones alike, artisan stands, and even mini golf, all ongoing at the motherroad market, was a scattering showcase of local artists, in multiple mediums, including a cutout painting for taking photographs, drawing prints, and books. the cutout painting outside the northside entrance was so hilarious to me, getting a picture was no question. then, playing the waldoesque game of "where is the local art?" while appreciating the artistry of the gathering space and people around me, i'd located prints drawn of local landmarks and venues, both at an artisan booth on the gathering space southside and route 66 gift shop on the northside, that were quite appealing to me. and last but definitely not least, i came across a table booth for a book signing by the author of 'broke out of prison,' a book i'd saw previously from a social media post, and in addition to at the book signing table, also saw at least one copy for purchase at the motherroad route 66 gift shop. the author also had on display a daily devotional, and though i'm confident both books represent the calming, assuring energy the author effuses in real life, the latter may be a connecting read for some whom the title 'i broke out of prison' is unsettling. however, regardless if you can afford to buy a drawing print or book copy, the event is worth going to checkout the offerings local artists are displaying. further, the monthlong mayfest festival still has one more weekend, including a leadup tailgate event at the expo square sagenet center next saturday night, featuring musical guests, followed by the 'centennial cruise concert' downtown on sunday, 8am to noon, concluding the celebratory festival.

From being a consumer to being part of it, Mayfest has always given me a great experience. No matter how many times I come throughout the weekend, let alone visiting, I always got to have the Fried Pickles. Sometimes they're dill pickle chips, sometimes they're spears (I like the dill pickle chips more). I often do the same with Funnel Cakes & this year, I switched it up & got a Deep Fried Twinkie. I can't stop thinking about it. Mayfest is very local driven. It gives local artists (art + music) the opportunity to showcase their creations to a massive crowds. Installations, vendors, seminars, art galleries, multiple stages hosting musicians + DJs... A nice chunk of Guthrie Green (Downtown) is very active for the weekend. I enjoy it all every visit.

This visit was on New Year's Eve and the perk was open parking and it was easy to stroll through the lights. This free event is a great way to get you in the holiday spirit. It is typically packed with lots of people checking out the lights. There are a lot of different displays and options to buy popcorn or a warm drink or jump on a carriage ride. Some of the light displays are synced to music which is fun to watch.

However, over the last several years, I've seen that focus change. The back driveline that connects the two sides without going through a parking lot, is no longer light up. Most of the back buildings and none of the back trees are lit up either. Across 71st street, the student housing and student stores are light up anymore either. Sad. They have put more lights and started LED productions with LED lights on the west lawn. They've added so much over there that's it's almost a bit cluttered. This is where the bulk of the people visit. Lots of walkways and trails to walk under lights and decorations. Other than the parts left out that used to be a part of the show, it's still a nice place to visit and make a tradition for Christmas.

i'd arrived early saturday after noon out front of the sagenet center, known to most locals with…read morewhom i've spoken as the expo, for a trading card convention transpiring most of the day last saturday and again for most of the day last sunday. and although i was without cards to trade or sell and money for entry or purchases, i'd received an assortment of candies and other various sweet snacks, with which i'd stood near the front exit of the expo and offered to passersby leaving the convention. and while nobody took the offer, and i did not actually go into the convention, i'm nevertheless grateful for multiple reasons, including seeing up close subtle renovations to the front entrance of the expo that streamline dropoffs, pickups, and tourism of the golden driller statue standing near the building entrance. further, in considering for a couple minutes or so whether to check if there was a charge entry, since of course i'm too proud to look back at the flyer lol, i'd seen a memorial plaque regarding the hosting of the international petroleum exposition in 1971 at the expo, then called by another name and having since received moderately significant renovations. although i've seen the picture of the plaque before in a book about petroleum oil history in tulsa, as well as nearing cities, i'd not previously had a opportunity to commit to memory its precise location by the expo entrance, nor the preceding historical marker for which it serves at numerous expo events, including the home & garden show and tulsa state fair. lastly, i'll add that i saw advertisement while in route for the boat & rv show during the coming weekend, and after leaving the event last saturday, saw 5 baseball cards in the nearing lortondale neighborhood, so please hit me here, (539) 525-5464, if you are trying to locate a baseball card or cards near that area, about e 31st & s yale.

I went to the first year of the Center of the Universe Festival. This was the first year of the…read morefestival and admission was free. You could pay for a VIP ticket and get closer if you wanted. It seemed worth the price too. Seemed like the entire city of Tulsa was there. The entire Brady downtown area was packed full of people. The acts that were chosen were on the level just above what you'd see at Orange Peel. So not too shabby in my opinion. The set up was pretty excellent for the first year too. It was very organized and I had no problem getting the information that I needed. The atmosphere was excellent. All the different venues had slightly different vibes. I had a great time bouncing from stage to stage. I wish I could have gone this year, but things got in the way. I'm very excited to see where this event is headed. Great job Tulsa!

Tulsa's finally becoming cool…read more I went to both nights of the festival to see OneRepublic and Neon Trees perform. It was crowded, but not so crowded that you were rubbing up against everyone else's sweaty bodies. Lots of bars, restaurants, and shops open late with added local vendors and food trucks. A great event for friends or families. Props to the city for having a fun, free music festival that I could see growing bigger and better in the future.

WOAH! Pictures do…read morenot do this justice. This piece of art is stunning. It is also the largest bronze sculpture in the world, coming in at 60ft tall and weighing 30 tons. Truly breathtaking.

Located right at the entrance to Oral Roberts University, the sculpture is absolutely massive--60…read morefeet tall and made of bronze, with an incredible level of detail. The hands are cast in a gesture of prayer, fingers gently interlaced, and they sit in a beautifully landscaped area with benches and open space for reflection. One hand was actually modeled after Oral Roberts himself and the other from his son, which makes it feel all the more personal and symbolic. Even our kids were impressed, and they don't always get excited about statues! It's also completely free and easy to access, with parking close by and no crowds when we visited. Definitely one of the more unique and spiritual landmarks we've seen on our trip. Whether you're on a Route 66 journey, exploring Tulsa, or just looking for something different and meaningful, the Praying Hands is a must-see. Quiet, grand, and deeply moving.
