Colin did two awesome things for us: 1) Took on a pain-in-the-butt legal issue involving land and a psycho lady AFTER a previous attorney had charged us a great deal of money for absolutely no result, and both my husband and I had tried for months to deal with psycho lady ourselves in a reasonable manner with no result either; and 2) Not only drew up the appropriate paperwork and advised us properly on our screwed circumstances involving psycho lady simply not wanting to take our money for her interest in the land, but somehow got psycho lady to show up, take the money she was owed, and sign the paperwork so we could move on with our lives. This might all sound simple, but I assure you, this problem lasted for close to 2 years and cost us much time, money, and stress (try having psycho lady calling and texting you at all hours of the day and night). All this while I was going through breast cancer. If my hero Colin had not shown up and literally rescued us from our legal dilemma, I don't know what I would have done. Colin will be the one I will call if god forbid legal troubles should arise again. I most highly recommend you give him a call if you need legal help too. I was in search of an attorney to represent me in a personal business transaction. I was referred to this group by a trusted friend, also a prominent Austin attorney. She and her firm don't do contract law, so she was unable to help me. I found Hay Legal Group's "front door" demeanor to be off-putting. I called them directly. Instead of taking my information over the phone, the receptionist insisted I go to their website and fill out their contact form and their paralegal would be in touch. That's rude, and not very customer service oriented. If I call, don't send me to a website. In filling out their intake form, I was careful to be very specific and detailed in the scope of services and dates I needed. My request was succinct but factual. I got back a rather terse email from their executive assistant a little over an hour later. Without further explanation, Marci thanked me for my contact and referred me to another attorney outside their law firm. It turns out their referral was to an attorney who is a former partner of their law firm. One star for family loyalty, I guess. Overall, Hay Legal Group didn't leave a positive impression with this Yelper. I didn't get good vibes about doing business with this firm, short-lived though my experience may have been. According to their website, what I requested in terms of services was totally in their wheelhouse. Perhaps I was so specific that they knew they were unable to accommodate my request and didn't want to waste their time or mine. I will allow them that possibility, and give them another star. Still, they could have handled things more cordially and professionally and at least offered a reason for the redirection. In my opinion, they came off as cold, impersonal bots, pushing e-tasks from inbox to outbox. I can't speak to the value of their services since we weren't able to conduct any business beyond contact and client intake/rejection--unless, that is, if you consider that the value here was in not wasting my time. But they could have saved me even more time and effort filling out their form and waiting for an answerby just answering my question over the phone, after all. Learn to talk to a human, Hay Legal Group. Treat potential clients like you'd like to be treated. If you have to turn away clients, at least leave them with a good impression of your firm. Two stars for my experience and expectations. My advice is to keep looking. read more

I've had the pleasure of working with Hannah Myres and I've also sent referrals that have just raved and went on and on about how easy Hay Legal made things for them. You don't ever want to be caught in a situation dealing with liens on your next dream house that could become a nightmare and financially a burden later down the line. Choose Hay legal for your title insurance and go to bed with peace of mind that your house is your house and no one can take that away from you. I spoke with John on the phone. I had some general questions, such as "I'm interested in a real estate deal, does your firm help with this type of real estate deal?". He was very unhelpful, saying "I'll need you to sign a form before I give legal advice". I told him "I'm sorry, perhaps, you misunderstand, I'm not asking for advice I'm asking if Hay Compere is able or interested in helping draft contracts for my real estate deal". He said "I don't even know who you are"... I hardly knew how to respond. Maybe he's a good lawyer but he's not very inviting. read more

We used them as our title company, but I wouldn't use them again. They seem to be nice enough, but I was never able to get the escrow agent or her any of her assistants on the phone. Voicemails and emails just went unanswered, and the escrow agent's voice mailbox was full all week, so I couldn't even leave a message for her! read more

Very unprofessional, I spoke with Mrs hall about a lease agreement I had and she basically told me me that they refused to help me. I was living with a roommate who did drugs and who refused to stop. It was a horrible experience I called to have a conseltation with an attorney and the woman said she couldn't help me because I was un able to send her my lease agreement. I told her that I would deliver it because I couldn't send it any other way. I felt really misunderstood the entire phone call and belittled. read more

Patton Van Veckhoven was the fourth attorney I contacted after a long and frustrating trial of finding a knowledgeable condo HOA lawyer to help me with re-establishing a delinquent HOA in order to close on the sale of my condo. In speaking with the three previous attorneys before Patton, their lack of knowledge was pretty evident. I had done some research myself with the steps needed when I visited the State Comptroller's office so I knew when two of the attorneys misspoke. One actually admitted she did not know the filing procedures, and she was even recommended from one of the others. After speaking with Patton however, I felt immediate relief regarding his expertise on the subject. He outlined three simple steps, wrote agreements with the parties involved, and handled all the paperwork and filings. What I thought was going to be a horrendous task actually came out straightforward, and on time!! We were under a closing date targeted within 4 days, with the Labor Day holiday included. When I was running around on my own and trying to find the right legal help, I was given the impression that it would take weeks ... which would mean my closing would have been delayed by weeks, and so, of course, there was always the chance that the sale would be in jeopardy if we were not going to close on the targeted date. I am forever grateful for Patton's and Susie's outstanding help; they were very friendly, kept me abreast of updates, were very responsive and available to answer any of my questions. I felt that Patton's knowledge of the situation and his timely help really saved my closing. I dread to think of what would have happened if I did not have Patton's help.
