You get six well-sized samples sourced from around the world that shows the variety in flavor and helps you appreciate the blending process that goes into a chocolate. I whole-heartedly recommend the tasting either before or after the tour itself. The tour features what you would expect about the Hershey family and the company itself. I appreciated the treasure hunt sprinkled in for the kids to keep their interest. BTW, admission is free if you stay in the Hershey hotels, so keep that in mind when planning your trip. read more

This is a nice stop to make while you're here in Hershey! I wouldn't add extra time to my trip to come here, but it's great if you already have the time. The museum is nice but I enjoyed the additional experiences more. The museum cost me $16 and has some cool information about Milton Hershey's life. It has a few historical items, like Hershey's crib and his White Star ticket receipt. There are a few interactive exhibits that I think would keep a kid's attention. It mostly summarizes Hershey's time and his impact in the town he created. If I had limited time I would skip the museum and do the extra activities instead. The drinking chocolate tasting feels like a secret and was so fun! It cost me $13 and it comes with six different drinking chocolates from around the world. It's fun and delicious to try them all! I also did an experience in the Chocolate Lab. It cost $16 (although I got a combo museum- Chocolate Lab ticket for $28). You sit with your group at different tables and wear an apron and a hair net. You make a small chocolate item- we just poured chocolate into a mold and added sprinkles. Then the hosts give a great educational talk about how chocolate is made and answers questions. It's very informative and for the price I thought it was a steal! If you come, I would evaluate all of the options and don't feel like you have to do them all. My friends and I were looking to have as much of a chocolate experience as we could while in Hershey, and as such we carved out time to visit The Hershey Story. But what is the Hershey Story? In fact, its a museum highlighting the life of Milton Hershey (in the broadest sense). I'm a fan of museums, and it was a short drive from our hotel, so after lunch we decided to head over and check it out. The Hershey Story is spread over two floors - the majority of the museum is located on the second floor, with one exhibit, a gift shop, and a cafe located on the first. The content of the museum itself was pretty comprehensive, and there were several areas to interact with which I imagine is fun for kids (and for me). I enjoyed reading about the history of Hershey and the brand, specifically when it came to their marketing; those wrappers on display were a real throwback. We didn't partake in the cafe, but we did spend some time in the gift shop which had a great selection of merch. Overall, The Hershey Story was pretty good - kudos for a comprehensive museum that's easy to navigate; my only criticism is that there's not a lot here so even if you take your time you'll get through the museum relatively quickly. There are, however, several points of interests in the area which can easily fill up a day. Definitely worth a visit. read more

We visited this museum to learn about the history and story behind Milton Hershey, and it definitely delivered on that and way more. I highly recommend this place if you're interested in understanding how it all began. I especially loved how they made it both kid-friendly, with a fun treasure hunt, and adult-friendly, with engaging videos and interactive displays. The museum is conveniently located across from plenty of restaurants and coffee shops, so it's easy to make a day of it. If you're looking for a complete experience, definitely stop by. We also got a discount on our tour since we had visited the Hershey Butterfly Garden, so be sure to hold onto your receipt! There's plenty of parking if you're driving, the bathrooms are clean, and the staff members were all wonderful. You would think all the years that I lived in Pennsylvania I would have had the chance to visit here, it was only I moved out of state that I was able to give this place a visit. First, I have to say parking is a breeze. I pulled into the lot situated right next door and found a pretty good parking spot. Made my way inside and to the counter to purchase my ticket to view the exhibit. Once I bought my ticket I was told how best to go about the museum. The Hershey Story is nothing more than a museum on how Hershey built a chocolate empire and how the town sprung up around the factory. Upon checking in and purchasing admission you are given a token to go around the building you can go over to the kiosks and input your name to be tagged with your token. The token is used throughout the museum to play snippets at exhibits that give an explanation of what you are seeing. Starting upstairs you go through the start of the chocolate factory, after given a short synopsis at the beginning you are on your way. In the first area you hear about how Hershey had failed before coming to chocolate. You learn that once with chocolate the way the factory made the chocolate. Going through the upstairs portion, tapping your token along the way, you also get to explore different aspects of the town. Throughout there are little enclaves where you can view videos. Towards the end of the upstairs portion you get more history on the town and how Hershey was philanthropic. Focusing on making the community a better place. And at the end of the upstairs portion you are asked to deposit your token into an area that you feel was a highlight of community support. When you deposit your token the block of screens thanks you for your contribution. After the upstairs you welcomed to head downstairs to continue. On my way, I had an amazing conversation with one of the museum employees. It was an innocent conversation that turned to personal loos. It was kind of a healing experience for me. That employee was so empathetic and it was great to get some assuring words from someone you just met. Sometimes you have no idea when you might just need that. Once downstairs I ventured into the exhibit about sugar production in Cuba. Not only the production but how the town flourished with Hershey ramping up production. You get to see sugar in all states of the production. One of my favorite things was the microscope that showed you sugar magnified. Once through this area you have the option of going to the chocolate lab, if you purchased and open, or to the gift store. The gift store is exactly what you think it would be. Everything Hershey themed. Candles, postcards, Christmas ornaments, shirts, etc. Not bad for review 3,200. read more

This museum is executed in an engaging fashion. I'm generally not one for museums, unless they're interactive or the subject matter piques my interest. Initially, my thoughts were THAT'S A LOT of READING BEFORE I experienced the Hershey Story, which it is, but it's in a digestible format. I found the approach interesting. The museum begins the timeline of young Milton Hershey, an illustration of his family dynamics & the failures Hershey endured & learned from throughout his life. I think what makes his story appealing & somewhat relatable is that he wasn't born wealthy, & even against all odds & the naysayers (even his own father) he possessed the tenacity to overcome his obstacles. In addition, Hershey was a Philanthropist, his legacy even continues to this very day. It's pretty cool to see how the Hershey's product evolved, along with its advertising. Throughout the museum are displays of artifacts, personal items, the mechanisms/machines & vintage wrappers etc. You are given a token for your group upon admission payment. A personal touch is added when you enter your name at the kiosk near the desk. The museum starts on the second floor & loops around. There are a total of 5 kiosks throughout the museum in which you tap the token to hear four different history bites. Be sure to tap the token after each fact, to hear all four. A neat animation pops up at each kiosk & will say your name. You have options to design your own candy bar wrapper & have it emailed to you, press buttons and slide doors to reveal info, watch films, listen to recordings of people's testaments on the impact of Hershey on their lives. It's definitely a sensory experience. The bottom floor of the museum houses a souvenir shop, a rotating exhibit, the hot chocolate tastings & Lisa's Cafe which closes at 2pm. The museum itself is open 9-5. The hot chocolate tastings is an additional price & has different hours than the museum itself. It doesn't take very long. Duration varies on the individual's pace of tasting each of the six various countries' hot chocolate. It proceeds from bitter to most sweet. They also have a chocolate lab where you pour your own chocolate & decorate, however I didn't partake in this activity which is also an additional charge. This is a great rainy day activity. If you enjoy history or just learning about Hershey this is a perfect option. I'm not sure if younger kids or those with a short attention span would enjoy the museum as much, it could vary. They do have restrooms upstairs & downstairs. Towards the end of the exhibits upstairs is a cute photo op. If you need to leave the museum & want to come back the same day, I believe they allow it. Just be sure to consult with an employee at the desk & hold onto your token. We left for an escape room in Strasburg & came back the same day. Free parking is available behind the museum off N. Linden. They do offer military discounts, just be sure to clarify if they do only active duty or whether dependent discounts are permitted. read more

I love museums and those that tell a story. So much to do here. Chocolate tastings from around the world, chocolate lab - essentially hands on classes, and a whole lot of information. The Hershey's did wonders for the area and it was pleasant being able to step back into their world and see how the famous chocolate did just that - become famous. We arrived at 2pm and were able to do chocolate tasting right away. Unfortunately, the chocolate lab classes weee already booked up. I would certainly do this again if I were back in the area. As a chocolate lover, I really enjoyed learning about the history of Hershey. One of the older male staff members was especially kind. When my child accidentally put the interactive coin into the machine, my child was given a replacement, and my other child was able to keep one as well. It was a bonus for my children to use his EBT cards for free admission. The area featured charming streetlights designed like Hershey's Kisses. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping by. This museum was very clean and the staff were friendly. The tour is interactive which we didn't know until the end. The person we bought tickets from didn't tell us so that was really annoying. They give you these wooden chips to use and you're supposed to personalize it and put your name. It also sucked that the chocolate lab is for kids 5 and older. My son couldn't participate because he's only 3 so we didn't have my 5 year old daughter do it either. The chocolate tasting was good. They say it's for 2/3 people which is weird because they all come in little shot glasses that you have to share. The museum was very informative though and my kids had fun doing the scavenger hunt. We visited on a weekday late afternoon and had a great time. The short, but informative tour is well worth an hour to 90 minutes and if you can arrange a tasting it makes it even better. The story is very interactive and informative for people of any age. I would ay kids 10 or 11 and up would find it interesting. You will really want to have a half day to dedicate to walking around and reading and watching videos. The museum starts and ends on the second floor. I found it rather lame that we have to pay for a tasting ticket just to order and get a hot chocolate. This museum is not very big, as far as museums go. It is two levels of not only history of Hersey the company, and Hershey the man, but all Hersey the city. The lower level has an exhibit dedicated to Hershey's very interesting run in Cuba. There are some interactive exhibits in the museum such as a Hershey Kiss machine and a couple of movies playing on a loop. There is a free parking lot right next to the museum. I like the museum, but think it is a bit pricey for what you get. The museum has some tokens for kids that they can use on interactive kiosk throughout the museum that will give them a personalized experience. The museum is well organized and tidy. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I will admit that I learned a lot about Hershey that I did not know like their civil war that they had, where the name Kit Kat came from, and I loved learning about Hershey's history in Cuba. There is a magnifying machine, building blocks, and baseball display in this section. Who knew that Hershey created their own city called Central Hershey, located in Cuba. I think that it was taken from up under them by the Cuban government. There was defieneley something shady going on during its sale to say the least. There is a neat way that kids turn in their tokens. They pick one of four qualities that are on a kiosk and then their name pops up on a video board thanking them for selecting their respective selection. All in all, we spent about an hour there. The museum has a cafe that closes relatively early and of course a gift shop. I would. recommend checking this place out, but I would try to find some type of discount such as a Groupon or something. You will definitely walk away from here with a better knowledge of the city that you are in and the man and candy company that built it. read more

There is a lot to read with a few interactive displays. I enjoyed reading about the history of Hersey, however, my kids were definitely more bored with this activity. I am not sure it would have been worth the money unless you are very interested in the history of Hersey. read more

Please add the chocolate tasting flight for $13 because it was definitely worth it! They gave us an interactive token that puts our name and our color of choice on the interactive sections of the museum. We walked around and saw the museum of Hershey. I'm not a museum person so it was a little boring to me but it's something to do if its raining. They also have the chocolate lab where you can make your own chocolate. We didnt do it but its a chocolate making class for $45 minutes which seems pretty cool. It was a decent thing to do but if it wasnt raining I wouldnt really do or recommend. It wasnt that fun. They should make it better for kids with a play area or something. It could of been more fun. read more

This is truly one of the coolest Hershey experiences in this entire city as it has soo much chocolate history! Coming here I really didn't know what to expect but what I found was a ton of really cool interactive content along with sooo much Hershey's history making for a really fun learning experience. As if a cool museum type atmosphere wasn't enough they have the option to buy a chocolate flight which is a selection of different liquid chocolate samples from around the world each of which is totally yummy and soo different from each other! Currently during the month of February you can get in for a discount if you mention the word cheers when you purchase your tickets at the desk. I really loved this museum (and I'm not a museum kind of gal). This told the very inspiring story of Milton Hershey. It was interactive and informative without being overwhelming. The museum was very beautifully done with a huge mural greeting you as you entered. I also liked how they had a chocolate tasting around the world, a convenient cafe to sit and drink coffees and an additional art exhibit that changes. The Hershey Story is located on Chocolate Ave in downtown Hershey. A free parking garage sits in the back. When you enter you are given the option to purchase some add on like the chocolate tasting or chocolate lab. Lisa's café sits off to the side if you want to get something for breakfast or lunch. Once you purchase your tickets you are given a wooden coin to activate some of the exhibits where you will learn about certain attractions or even hear Milton Hershey's voice. Besides the chocolate lab and tasting areas the first floor has a painting of Milton Hershey speaking to families and one of the town itself. A special exhibit is on display here Mr. Hershey's Cuba where you can learn about the town Hershey, Cuba that specialized in sugar cane that was planted and harvested for the sweet confections we enjoy today. Upstairs you walk through interactive exhibits that showcase the life of Milton Hershey, a timeline of the history of Hershey's products from 1894 to the present time. Special exhibits worth noting are the Hershey's kiss machine which shows how Hershey's kisses were wrapped in the day, the conche machine used for mixing chocolate, and the glass torchiere which adorned to entry area to Mr. Hershey's mansion at High Point. Note: High Point tour admissions can be purchased from the Hershey story website (Reviewed separately) and I recommend that if you have the time to see it. Learn what it is like to promote Hershey's products using advertising with artwork on packages along with and emphasizing the health and purity benefits on his chocolate bars all through interactive displays. The latter portion focuses on Milton Hershey's influence on the town itself. The Milton Hershey school provides for children in a social and financial need. The original factory along with its silos and dual brown smokestacks with the name Hershey stenciled on them is showcased. The building where this museum is housed was once a dental office. Learn about the start of Mr. Reese with the peanut butter chocolate candy named for him. Milton Hershey left a legacy that is reflected in his support of public schools and churches during the depression. The Penn State Milton Hershey Medical center is named for him. See photos from the opening ceremony of the Hershey's kisses street lights. Allow 1 hour to 90 minutes if visiting the museum without the add ons. The gift shop has a good array of merchandise as well as Hershey's candy and Reese pieces. Hershey's was also featured in the Grinch movies and you can find some of those candies for sale here along with holiday ornaments. You are permitted to return same day if not able to finish the museum when you visit. Just hold onto your wooden token instead of depositing it at the end of the attraction. read more

I think this was a cute museum with a lot of displays that laid out information in an interesting way. It was visually appealing for kids and a lot of good facts for kids. I also added on the chocolate drinking sampler which was really interesting and worth trying. There are 6 cups from chocolate drinks from around the world and came with a fact sheet explaining the preferences around the world. Unfortunately, they only served it in samples, as I wanted a glass of java to go. They do have a small Starbucks-ish cafe if you are hungry. I also did a class, where they did information on s'mores, a little trivia game, and make your own s'mores bar. That was okay but probably more fun for kids. The experience + bar wasn't worth the price. The gift store had a lot of variety of items with Hershey names on it, but I couldn't find any souvenirs that said "Hershey Story Museum" that I was looking for. This was an amazing experience. Hershey was a wonderful human being and the whole town exists because of him. This museum is incredible. I will say though that my absolute favorite thing was doing the chocolate tastings from six different parts of the world. I would go back just to do this again. Younger children would not likely appreciate this museum but would love the Factory. People with an interest and adults will definitely love this museum. While in Hershey, we spent one morning at the Hershey Story Museum. What a gem. The museum does an incredible job of telling the story of this incredible man with a giving heart. The museum is a bit interactive, and has some wonderful timelines that help tell the story of what was happening in the country while Milton Hershey was building his business. There is also an exhibit downstairs after you finish the main museum upstairs that tells the story of Milton Hershey establishing the sugar cane business in Cuba and how he really helped the people of Cuba too. We had no idea of his history and were very impressed with the man and museum. The small gift shop also has some Hershey themed items that Chocolate World does not. Well worth the visit. read more

Enjoyed spending time here learning about the history of Hershey. Many interactive exhibits and areas for kids of all ages. The Cuba exhibit in the first floor offers hands on play areas for smaller kids - building blocks, microscope (to view rope used to transport chocolate), etc. The 2nd floor goes through the history of Hershey and they give you little wooden discs when you pay the entrance fee. These discs can be personalized with your name at the kiosk so you use them to touch various places throughout the tour to activate the audio. You turn these discs back in at the end. Our older kids enjoyed walking through the exhibit- much much younger kids may not enjoy it as much if their attention span isn't up for a museum or if they can't read whats in all the signs. Bottom Line: A nice museum that tells the story of Milton S. Hershey, his candy companies and the town he created. I traveled to Hershey for history so I was excited to visit The Hershey Story. The museum is organized chronologically starting with Hershey's childhood in the 1850s/1860s and ending with his current-day legacy like the Milton S. Hershey School and the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. There are lots of exhibits to help tell the store and some of them are interactive and technological-infused which I know the modern museum-goer generally appreciates. While I enjoyed the museum as a whole, a few of the most memorable exhibits are the conch machine, which to my surprise, was in working order with gears turning and everything. The machine fires up after a short video about how milk chocolate is made. I also really enjoyed watching movie clips about the history of the town of Hershey. I would have like to seem more artifacts in the museum. I can't help but wonder what happened to all of Hershey's stuff from his house and factory. A few more historical objects would have been nice but I really enjoyed what was there. The Hershey Story has a small café and gift shop. Wanting to know even more, I stopped in the gift shop to get a book or two but ended up leaving with Christmas ornaments instead. Nevertheless, the museum sparked my curiosity even more which I think is a hallmark of a great museum. Parking was conveniently located in an adjacent lot. read more

This place was so fun, maybe not a place for toddlers bc it's a museum. So it's lots of reading and not "kid friendly". My toddler had fun running around while the adults read everything lol. But I loved learning about Milton Hershey. There's a restaurant connected to it and the staff was not friendly there, but the food was amazing. The staff at the hershey story were great! Your appreciation for Hershey in its entirety is changed. The staff is so helpful in providing useful facts and answering as many questions as you have. I enjoyed the history behind Hershey and learned so many cool things. They have a tasting experience where you can sample multiple hot chocolates. I didn't do it because they use whole milk with no alternatives but , I definitely suggest going for the great experience. I had brought my guy here after buying a Groupon for both the museum and the chocolate tasting. I thought I had been here before but when we arrived- the building didn't look familiar to me after all- and I guess it was my first experience here as well. The building is huge but as soon as you step foot inside you are greeted by smiling faces. I gave them my groupon and then we were told where to go for the museum and the tasting. We decided to go upstairs to do the museum first then treat ourselves to the chocolate tasting once we were finished. The tour was started with an employee giving us a tip of what we will see and how long it will take. It took us about an hour to browse through the different pieces that related to Hershey Park and Milton S Hershey who started the business. The museum taught us how he originally had a Carmel factory and switched to chocolate once he didn't sell as much! It was interesting learning about how he made Hershey into a town of people who basically knew each other and worked at his factories. There were also some videos playing so we can sit and learn about how chocolate was made and their were machines that replicated making the chocolate. There were so many things to do and look at and I definitely learned a lot about Milton Hershey and his company. After we finished the museum self guided tour we went downstairs to the chocolate tasting and hadn't realized it was going to be a hot chocolate tasting that had cocoa beans from all different countries. The hot chocolate was a treat to end our trip here. On our way out my boo wanted to stop in and get some chocolate to take home- and I wanted to see what they had I can buy. If you are in Hershey and have even a remote interest in history, make sure you visit this museum. It is small, but packed with lots of great exhibits and information. When you enter, you are given a chip that activates various exhibits. Each one will tell you four to five different snippets of info and are only about 15 to 20 seconds each. I like this addiction for those that don't like to or can't read to still enjoy the museum. The museum progresses through telling Milton Hershey's story as a boy, starting out in sales, developing the chocolate, the factory, the town and the school. I know I learned a lot that I didn't know, especially that Milton Hershey was such a proponent of education. A favorite attraction was the Kiss making machine from years ago. You get to push a button and watch it in action. There is an apprentice kit you can buy for $3. Even though it is designed for kids, I definitely would have enjoyed filling it out in my own as an adult. Usually when you complete an activity the staff gives you the stamp/completion item, but because of covid precautions, you get a baggie filled with all of those items. In all, it took us around an hour to tour. It was included with our stay at the lodge, but is absolutely worth a visit even if you don't have free passes. There are add on attractions at the museum as well. You can sample drinking chocolates from around the world. We bought one tasting and split it among our family of four. We also took a chocolate class. They taught us about the history of cocoa/chocolate and where cocoa is usually grown, how it is grown and the various components that go into their chocolate. You also get to make your own small bars! Definitely recommend the class. Overall, a very enjoyable experience and something I'd visit again. read more

We went to Hershey Park the day before so the next day we decided to check out the town. We saw this museum when we were eating dinner the night before. So we got here early afternoon on a Saturday. Walked in and bought tickets for the museum you which is mostly upstairs. Not too busy either. They have lab courses available to make your own chocolate but that sells out quickly it seems. You need to try to get in for that a day before at least. It was me and my two kids who are 12 and 14. I really liked the museum. It was educational and entertaining. My kids got a little bored halfway through but they learned a lot and it was good family time without all of the gadgets. What my kids loved the most was tasting their chocolate drinks. We ordered a flight of 6 for about $12. We shared the whole flight with the three of us. If you have more people share with two flights. It was really neat. It was like a wine tasting but with chocolate. The service was great and well worth it. The kids will be talking about the tasting for years I think. Anyways a good place to go with your family while you are in Hershey. read more

This was a fun experience! It's great to see the story behind hershey and everything that was done to make dreams happen. The museum itself had a lot of interesting information and some hands on activities. It's very small, we walked through within 30-45 minutes. We were more excited for the chocolate tasting. If you aren't into museum stuff, do the tasting! (Full flight highly recommended and is fine for 2 people!) The chocolate that was given to us was delicious! Sadly to say compared to the other chocolates, hershey chocolate didn't taste great haha. read more

This was my first time coming to Hershey. The museum was lovely and I enjoyed learning about the history. Mostly, learning about Hershey in Cuba. There's a cute mural of Milton S. Hershey sitting down with children on the first floor. My niece and nephew took a picture right in front of it. I loved all the little exhibits. The employees were friendly. There's a cute gift shop on the first floor. read more
