Place is cute inside, service is a little slow and menu is small as well with barely any options and if they see you sharing or tasting off another persons plate in your party it's an additional $10. Was gonna order a steak but all steaks are market price so they choose what you pay. There is no salad or soup options.

My husband and I stopped at this yummy restaurant on our way through Battle Mountain , Nevada and loved it so much we stopped again on our way home. Both times we sat out on the cute patio as we were traveling with our dog, and dogs on a leash were permitted. The friendly waitress brought water for our dog and didn't hesitate to tell us her favorites on the menu. The restaurant was cutely decorated and we will be sure to go there again when traveling through the area. The portions were huge and food was reasonably priced. Most importantly the meals were amazing!

We stopped in Battle Mountain for gas and found this local restaurant for lunch. Walking in our first impression was how cute and nicely decorated it is giving it a nice ambiance for a lunch date or special occasion. We ordered the steak salad and the loaded steak fries. Both were excellent and served with perfect attention to detail. Our server, Lanaie, was friendly and prompt in attending to all our needs. We're looking forward to eating here again on our return drive.

    Cabbage Soup

First of all, I love my soups. I rate my food pretty strongly, and I gotta say, the cabbage soup is SUPERB. I drank at least 4 bowls of it with the bottomless soup and salad meal. Definitely ate my days worth of vegetables with the soup! The service is also just as good as the soup. A kind lady promptly took our orders and made sure to check on us and refill our drinks when needed. Couldn't have asked for more. The teriyaki chicken rice bowl was also pretty good. Our kind waitress even said it was one of her favorites! We also had the buffalo wings. It could have been a little bit crispier but wasn't too bad. Overall recommend based on the stuff we ordered.

I didn't realize I would be enjoying one of the best seafood meals ever. We started with the perfectly warmed French bread and butter. Crab croquettes perfectly blended and seasoned and fried to a golden crisp. The complimentary cabbage soup reminded me of a soup my Mom prepared growing up. Home cooked flavor! But our meals.... Wow! I had the most perfectly cooked halibut. It was light and tasty Hubby ordered the prime rib special which was thick and juicy and served with all the accompaniments. The flan was one of the best I've tasted. And I had to order the lemon blueberry marscarpone cake for the 6 hour drive home. I cannot remember the last time a meal evoked memories of childhood and thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of this basque restaurant. Well done! Superb!

The service was good, the food presentation was great and the serving sizes were amazing. It just lacked flavor. I had the lamb chops and my husband had the prime rib. They looked spectacular, but they just were lacking in flavor. I asked if it was served Basque style and was told yes, but it wasn't. No beans nor vegetables. Just very disappointed especially when the bill was $100 for 2 people and that was without any beverage nor dessert.

Worth Every Mile If…read moreyou're traveling through Winnemucca and don't stop at the Martin Hotel, you're missing one of the true gems of northern Nevada. This isn't fancy, pretentious dining. It's honest, family-style comfort food done exceptionally well, and you can feel the history the moment you walk through the door. The portions are enormous. My partner ordered a steak sandwich and honestly thought they had accidentally brought him two sandwiches because it was that big. Trust me--you are not leaving hungry. Now for my favorite part... I decided to be adventurous and ordered the sweetbreads. I'll admit it--I had absolutely no idea what sweetbreads were. I figured maybe it was some kind of bread with gravy. Nope. Turns out I had ordered a classic delicacy made from organ meat. My partner looked it up while I was halfway through eating it and told me exactly what I was eating. Did I stop? Absolutely not. It was damn good, and I'll wear that experience like a badge of honor from now on. Sometimes the best meals happen when you step outside your comfort zone. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly, the flavors were outstanding, and the family-style meal made the experience even better. The service was warm, welcoming, and exactly what you'd hope to find in a historic restaurant that's been serving travelers for generations. The Martin Hotel isn't just another place to eat. It's an experience. It's history. It's Nevada. And I can honestly say I'll be looking forward to my next trip through Winnemucca just so I have another excuse to eat here. Highly recommended. Five stars.

The service was good and all the employees were friendly. Dinner is served family style with your party along with other parties who are seated at your table. At first I was skeptical of this, but we actually had some really good conversations with two other couples at our table. You receive complimentary starters that will be passed from one end of the table to the other. The complimentary dishes were all really good and filling. We all ordered their dinner special which was a New York strip with mushrooms and garlic. We requested extra garlic, but the garlic was pretty much raw (should have been sautéed). The New York had way too much fat which was disappointing because it was only a 10 oz. I didn't try their bread pudding because I was so stuffed with all the sides I ate, but those at our table mentioned it was delicious. The complimentary glass of wine was a nice touch to start the evening. I ordered myself a Picon drink (I believe this is their signature drink) and it was really refreshing. Overall, I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try. I will definitely be a returning customer whenever I am either visiting or passing through Winnemuccca.

The taco salad was very nice with excellent shredded breast of chicken and a fresh taco shell bowl - lettuce was like it was picked out of the garden and just freshly washed & served (very fresh lettuce, which is always a bonus)! Prices are reasonable and location and parking is super easy. Service was rough this visit: 35 + min for a taco salad (they were very busy inside, but the patio was not even at 1/3 capacity, so for those of us sitting on the patio we would have no idea that the inside was super busy). Clearly experienced waitress was apologetic about the long wait when finally serving my lunch, but having waitressed for many of my earlier years, I would've liked to have heard that there was going to be a long wait when I sat down (she said unexpected busy Labor Day weekend); I would've liked the option to have opted out, as I was traveling and was looking for a quick meal break (just my opinion, but it's far better to lay out timing expectations from the onset so people can decide if they have the time to wait [then to apologize for them after the fact, when people are already frustrated and wondering why the wait felt unreasonable]). Although I wasn't as thrilled with my service experience this trip, I will continue to visit and next time just ask the question about timing ;)

I was kind of in the aisle and felt like I may be in the way of people and staff walking by, but it worked out ok. Despite it being busy, we were waited on quickly. My husband got the chili verde chimichanga with rice and beans. The food was fresh and the plates were hot. I really enjoyed my meal and liked the flavors of the shrimp and chicken topped with cheese and fresh mushrooms. I must have been hungry because I cleaned the plate. The beans were good, and had a sweeter flavor like I like. The rice was cooked well and did not have any undercooked crunchy bits. I would surely return again when I'm in the area.

I felt a sense of warmth and nostalgia and reverence for the history of the only watering hole... only business really, in this tiny town, 30 miles from a paved road. A group of friends and I went to Winnemucca to do some desert riding. I am a map nerd was scouting for rides and happened to find Midas Bighorn Saloon looking for destinations to ride to. The Yelp reviews were great so it seemed like it was worth the trip. Little did we know it was a little beyond the range of our side by sides for a round trip and there was no other gas around. We got to Midas with just barely over half a tank of fuel, not enough to get back to Winnemucca with a margin of comfort. We're welcomed into the bar by owner Paige and some locals. They were a little skeptical of us (rightly so) after they heard we were from California but after a few jokes I have never felt more welcome. Paige was a fantastic host full of wonderful history of Nevada gold mining (a career miner himself) as well as the history of Midas and the bar. My beer never ran dry and they were the coldest beers around. Paige heard about our adventure and offered to give us fuel if we returned with his cans full. Of course we did and brought more fuel for ourselves so we could comfortably get back to Winnemucca the second time. I can't recommend this place highly enough. I had a fantastic time. I only drank beer but Paige had a full bar. The artifacts on the wall could keep you busy for hours and there's a porch and patio if you want to sit outside. Bring your own food! As of our trip the kitchen was not open. The bathrooms are also nice and clean. There's a TouchTunes juke box on the wall and Paige can even accept credit cards. I will 100% be returning again and I've told everyone I know who does desert riding or overlanding to make Midas Bighorn Saloon a destination. Oh yea, the beer prices were fantastic!
