Most staff members are friendly and helpful. Management is easy to deal with. Staffers in the lumber department have done an excellent job cutting plywood sheets and linear lumber. In the appliance section, management has been more helpful than salespersons in working with me on prices. I got a great deal when I bought 3 appliances there 2 years ago. Bought a brand new Samsung Bespoke refrigerator in July - freezer didn't work - called service desk they said to unplug it and plug it back in - still didn't work - but Home Depot only backs it for 48 hours then you are on your own with Samsung. Still hasn't been resolved - $2800 brand new appliance that doesn't work. Home Depot just takes your money - doesn't care about service. Bravo. Bought a kitchen (14K) about a year ago, it was a Thomasville product. I bought the "Quick Ship" which are cabinets and trim already made and, on a shelf somewhere. They call this a "Special Order" like they have to make it up just for you. I have been working on this total remodel 2500+ sqft home for almost a year now. The cabinets were installed months ago but not the crown molding. I am now at my trim out stage and as I was putting up crown when I noticed I had an 8'-3" run. Well, come to find out that they don't have over 8' lengths in the "quick ship". I was not told about this flaw by designer. The designer also told me some people don't mind seems. Well, I do! I burned through 2- 8's at $103 each which is highway robbery as it is, and now I have to eat the whole 8 pieces (over $800) because they won't take them back. They could easily just take back (all in original packing) and refund me. Put it back on their shelf and wait for the next guy! I offered to eat half but to no avail. HD has huge mark-up on their moldings, go to Menards, more selection and cheaper! I don't blame manager at all, but I do blame designer and Thomasville "Quick Ship" policies on returns. read more

I read the previous review with a really poor rating, so I had to write mine. I had to purchase fixtures, flooring, etc. for a bathroom I was having remodeled. I went to numerous stores (Lowes, Menards, and Home Depot) from Rockford, to DeKalb, to LaSalle-Peru. I ended up with the most help and the best deals at The Home Depot. They were exceedingly helpful and nothing but courteous. They did a nice price match on my flooring. It was a great experience. They also had a shower that nobody else had and my contractor has purchased 3 more of them for his clients. I had a list of what I needed to purchase for the job because I am A) a bargain hunter and B) too picky for someone else to pick out my stuff. read more

When did writing a check for purchases become such a bad thing? I made a $4400.00 purchase yesterday at the Home Depot in Peru and noticed that 2 of the items I purchased, a washer and dryer, were higher than the price I saw on the price card. So I thought ok, I'll get a store credit and use it to come back for a refrigerator. Upon dealing with their customer service, I had 4 or more people tell me, "You write a check, we write a check." And it was not the statement, but how they said it. It was as though they were saying how dare you write us a check. So the way they handle refunds is by writing you a check and mailing it to you which could take 2 weeks for you to receive it. And rather than give me a refund for the difference, they refunded the entire sale price of the 2 items in the amount of $2200. So now, I not only needed to cover the $4400 check I wrote, but I needed to cover the $1900 for the correct items that I needed to purchase. Now I'm out $6,300! To do this simple transaction took over 2-1/2 hours! The head manager of the store was this woman who acted as though she owned the store, except an owner would know better than to treat a customer the way she treated me. She was rude, never smiled or apologized and said, "next time be careful to pick the right items"! There were 2 set of items which were exactly the same items, but slightly different in color and located on either side of the aisles. If they were side by side, I would have noticed the difference. I saw the price on the set I wanted and when I said I wanted this set, located opposite each other, I thought they were exactly the same, not realizing the difference in the color. I went back to the salesperson (who was genuinely nice and understanding) and told him I wanted to cancel the entire order. This store lost $4400 over a $300 refund! Would you want someone like that manager running your store? I would rather pay more money elsewhere than to ever deal with Home Depot in Peru again! read more

One of the worst customer service experiences even had in a retail store. I purchased a line of husky complete to boxes (the premium one) with a 5 year warranty. After one year box locking system on one of them has failed and locking box or drawers detent is useless. After calling and dealing with Home-depot customer care in Atlanta, was informed to bring complete box into store under warranty and will be replaced. I loaded the entire box up and drove 35min to the store where I purchased it and got to store and store manager stated I needed an R/A#. Got to store and they assumed I just needed a a part I stated no the entire locking system and drawer detents are damaged the box is under a 5 year warranty and completely worthless warranty is of no use. This box was for use in my home garage not a commercial environment. My business uses Snapon and I honestly understand now why people don't buy the cheap crap. I purchased it assuming I would get good service by bring it back to the store being it has a 5 year warranty. Nope after several hours on the phone with several departments nothing resolved. Never again will I buy a 5 lbs bag of dirt from Home Depot. read more
