There was a group of lively people going in and out of the building. They offered to take our picture and they told us they were staying at the light house. STAYING!? Yes. Staying , as in sleeping in beds inside; using the facility ... SPENDING the night. Wow. I needed to find out how to do this. Later on I joined their email list... And forgot about it. Fast forward to last summer. I got an email at 9:03am from the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy informing me that next week- they had a cancellation and and opening for a single night's stay. That room was booked at 9:08! And my husband, the Fast n Furious franchise lover- the "I only tolerate nature walks" guy was, unbeknownst to him about to spend the night... in a light house. Begrudgingly. Drive up. Park in the small lot and walk though the fence which leads to a trail. The hike is short but time your arrival with the tide , or you may have to wade though some of the river water. The building is historic so History buffs would love it. The stairs have a pleasant creak to them. The living room has books about the area. The hall upstairs has a shelf with more books and games for Kids. No phones or televisions. Heaven. There is a room designated as a small Museum which documents the history Of the lighthouse. Our guest room was enough. We had two different window exposures, one of them looking right over the river. The bed was only a full size - a bit cramped for a big guy and his wife. But hey! I am sleeping in lighthouse sooo I don't care. There is a gracious innkeeper who lives onsite in a separated part of the house. The back deck is boat shaped and has a series of beautiful wood tables over looking the Hudson River. It was mid- afternoon and we had the place all to ourselves when we checked in. We had packed a lunch for the patio. The day was beautiful. When you sleep in a lighthouse you get a key. It gives you access to the house and the ladder which leads up to the actual light and the 360 degree views of the area. Nearing sunset, We climbed up and were able to look down at people who were on the deck. Some of them looked up at us confused as if wondering how we got up there? We had the key! It was a beautiful sunset. I stayed up In the glass enclosure until the light turned on. Since our room windows were huge and we left the shades up, I awoke at dawn and to the sound of the waves lapping outside. A few minutes later I heard voices and when I looked outside there were some fisherman passing very close to us in a small boat. So close I could have had a conversation with them from my window. The innkeeper cooked us a breakfast of French Toast with strawberries, eggs, juice and coffee. It was just all so pleasant and quaint that I didn't want it to end. We had to checkout two hours early because my husband had to get to work. Overall I loved every minute of it. I slept in a Lighthouse. I can't believe I got the chance.

For me,…read morethose opportunities are few and far between so when it happens, it leaves an impression that I'll carry and remember fondly for a long while. My darling boyfriend surprised me with an impromptu weekend trip to the beautiful Saugerties Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast a few weeks ago. He'd been stalking their website months prior, never finding any openings, but alas, thanks to a last minute cancellation and some impeccable timing, he was able to snag a night for us at this charming BB. The lighthouse only operates as a BB on Thurs-Sunday, and it's open all year round. Reservations must be made months in advance so if you want to visit during a particular season, I suggest to start your planning two full seasons prior. The drive up was scenic and lovely. We downloaded some podcasts and had goggle maps lead the way. We chose to avoid tolls and that increased our ETA by 15 minutes but it was great, and only took about 2.5 hours to get there! The lighthouse has a shared fridge for its guests so we brought food with us for the stay, not knowing what to expect, but it turned out not to be necessary because we found some really great farmers markets along the way, and bought more food than we needed. The lighthouse also has a grill that guests can use, as well as nearby restaurant options. Make sure you bring your rain boots if you plan to go with the restaurant option for dinner, though. The tide comes in when the sun goes down so you'll have to waddle through some shallow water along the route from the lighthouse to the parking lot. It's pretty amazing to see, so also make sure to bring your flashlight, too! We also saw huge, gigantic boats glide right by our room at all hours of the day. They were incredibly close, I felt like I could almost touch them from the window. And listening to the waves crashing down as I fell asleep was truly entrancing. Breakfast was amazing, too. The inn-keeper made us the most delicious French toast, yogurt with fresh organic strawberries and fresh tapped maple syrup with fresh squeezed orange juice. The bathroom was the only feature that I would change. Don't get me wrong, it's very clean and I love the products they use; all natural shampoos, soaps and conditioners, but they use stored rain water for the sink and showers, and don't have a flush toilet... But then again, maybe that's all part of the charm. I loved every minute I spent up here with my best friend.

From my first night there I was already wondering when we could come back. The house itself is lovely, and each room has a private porch or terrace. It's so peaceful and quiet and set back from the road by a long driveway, so it feels like a true retreat. We opted for the White Room, mainly for the king-size bed, and we loved it. Even though it was cold, we spent a good deal of time on the terrace just gazing at the mountain vista. I've been to yoga retreats where I didn't feel as serene and relaxed as I did on this trip. Also, if you have allergies, this is THE PLACE to book. I have really terrible allergies to dogs, cats, etc. and when I looked at the reviews for other Woodstock B&B's, almost all of them mentioned a proprietor's cats and/or dogs or being dog-friendly. I was so thrilled that this B&B is known for being hypoallergenic and not allowing pets. I knew I wouldn't have to deal with down pillows or comforters either, to which I'm also terribly allergic. The bed linens were clean without that antiseptic/bleach smell that's also an allergy trigger for me. I just felt super comfortable the whole time, which is so rare for me at any hotel or B&B. Carol, the owner, is absolutely lovely and a treat to talk to. I'd honestly love to spend more time with her and hear more about her life. And her assistant Tara (also lovely and a treat to talk to) made us a wonderful breakfast each morning, even picking up my requested goat cheese for my omelette! The drive into town is about 10 minutes or less, so you get the fun of being close to Woodstock with the serenity of a set-back farmhouse in Bearsville. We definitely want to come back in the summer when the saline pool is open!

The…read moreinn was clearly a motel in a previous life, as it had that lengthy structure with outdoor entrances to each room. The parking lot was gravel-based, so vehicles were parked a bit haphazardly, but the lot's spaciousness ensured that it was not really an issue. The hotel was right on the stream with a lovely grassy area dotted with Adirondack chairs, hammocks, and other ways to enjoy the view. The office was located right next to that little park and was also where the continental buffet breakfast was served. The small room had a great view of the water from its few tables. The breakfast options included various hot beverages, several types of milk, yogurt, berries, granola, pastries, breads, hard-boiled eggs, lox, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more. It was really the perfect few bites to start the day with energy and wellness. While the inn had a few larger cabins, many of the rooms were supposedly rather tiny, including ours. The room had a queen-sized bed, nightstand, wall-mounted television, and wooden desk with matching chair. There was a closet with some hanging and shelving space, as well as a hair dryer and coffeemaker. The room really left a lot to be desired from a space perspective, as it was hard to navigate. For instance, the room might have come with 2 luggage racks, but there was really only space for one. The bathroom was also tiny, and it was near impossible to use the toilet without sideswiping the pedestal sink on your way. The shower was a decent size at least. The bathroom came with fluffy towels and Aveda products, which were both appreciated. We also loved that the temperature and pressure of the water were phenomenal; in fact, the shower was like a fire hose! Though the room was small, it was SPOTLESS! Also, its individual heater packed a great deal of warmth. There was not an abundance of electrical outlets, but the alarm clock had one built in, as well as two USB ports. The extremely gracious staff had also left a binder of local recommendations for us on the table. The bed, however, was lumpy, and the pillows were cheap and uncomfortable. From a location standpoint, the inn was only a few blocks from either end of town, depending on which way you wanted to travel. The residential roads were very dark at night and many did not have sidewalks, so we definitely needed to be alert walking to and from the main drag, even though we knew the town was overly safe. The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream made up for its lack of amenities and small rooms with efficient, friendly service and clear dedication to guest satisfaction.

This…read moretime, I just stood in every room and contemplated how perfectly put together they were (English Arts & Crafts to the tasteful max!), how gorgeous the views were (Kaaterskill Clove) and how happy I was to be able to spend a few days there soaking up the mountain air. It is hard to believe this little piece of heaven is just 10 miles off the Thruway and near Hunter Mountain of all places. We stayed in Room 2, which has a private deck (facing the Clove and Sunrise) as well as a jetted tub. At $200 it was also pretty reasonable. We slept great in the queen-sized four-poster bed and very much enjoyed the free WiFi. The owners, Kathy and Sean are wonderful: the perfect balance of helpfulness and aloofness. This is the second B&B Kathy designed and she really did learn a lot from the experience. She is also an outstanding baker (and I know my baked goods)- we really enjoyed the breakfast! Sean was knowledgeable about local hiking routes and parks: he pointed us to the "secret" and refreshingly easy hike down to the top of Kaaterskill Falls (*exquisite* view) and then to the gorgeous all day hike up in North-South Lake State Park. The views of the Hudson Valley and then the mountains and lake were a revelation. Next time I will bring a picnic lunch and a six-pack to complete my idea of a perfect fall day. All in all it was a perfect weekend and I can't wait to go back!

There is absolutely no other place with better value. As seen in all other reviews, Barry could not be a better host. He gave us detailed recommendations on everything we asked for, and even called a bar, Helsinki, to check if there were any tables left as this place has minimal standing room (only he knew this as he is the expert on everything in town). Then, again we booked last-minute train tickets back home and gave him just 20 minutes notice. Barry insisted on making us breakfast-to-go and driving us to the train station there even though we had time to walk. In just 5 minutes, Barry made us the most savory yet simple sandwich (which was the topic of conversation for part of the train ride back.) His breakfast was the best meal we had during our entire weekend in Hudson - 100% fact. Eating breakfast outside on the porch was one of my favorite parts of the entire trip. Location is walking distance from the best shopping and food in Hudson, as well as Amtrak. If anyone else is looking, this is the only place I'd recommend.

When I checked in, I was told via text there is none of that because of the pandemic. We find that to be an excuse because we just left a B&B in Cold Spring that had everything! It's a bunch of nonsense, the owners could have baked and individually wrapped things. Just like the B&B in Cold Spring.... Oh wait, we were served a sit down breakfast. And coffee! What a concept. Check-in is at 3pm. I arrived at 1pm thinking I can get a few tips about the area. The door was locked so I rang the bell. I'm assuming its the owner who answered the door. I tell him I know I'm early, I'm looking for a few things to do locally. He said there is nothing here to show but I can send you a text? Ok.. The town of Rhinebeck is very cute, there are shops that are open while walking around. We had a glass of wine and some charcuterie while passing the time. Once it's 3pm, we were sent a text for the door code. Walking inside, The Gables Of Rhinebeck is a beautiful Bed & Breakfast. It also seems we are the only guests based on the parking lot out back. And the parking lot only has room for 3 cars? Our room is drop dead gorgeous. The bedding is adorned with a beautiful quilt. It's a suite so there is a nice sitting area. I walked downstairs to the empty parlor, grabbed two wine glasses and opened a bottle of wine that I brought from home. The bathroom, there was a lack of shelf space for our toiletries. Its a large space with a claw foot cast iron tub, very pretty. I had plans to sit outside after dinner and smoke a cigar. The lights weren't on, there is no one to ask and at that point, I really didn't care. I'm ready to leave and that is just a shame. It's not the feeling you want your guests to have when they leave. Do you agree? I asked about breakfast the next day in a text. Coffee? Oatmeal? Anything? Nothing I'm told in a text. The restaurant next door opens at 8am. Mention we're guests at The Gables Of Rhinebeck and well receive 20% off our bill. The restaurant at 8:50am was closed. At this point we jump in the car and leave. While I'm sitting down in another town, I text them saying the restaurant wasn't open at 8 or 8:30. They text back: OMG there is Bread Alone and so many other restaurants in the area that we could have chose. Overall, this was a sucky stay and I'm glad it was just for one night. They charged a premium price for the Bed but not the Breakfast?! And they weren't hospitable! Yeah OMG.

It is not only clean, but also has super cool decor inside and outside! Owners Rob and Robbie are the best. They are professional, very personable and are two seriously amazing cooks!! The breakfast was SO on point. They provide a very nice assortment of options, and you leave that breakfast table feeling quite happy and satisfied. I also like the fact that they have chickens laying the fresh eggs we ate each morning. That was a real treat. The surrounding area is beautiful and there are lots of resources at the Inn to guide you with things to do. I truly loved our stay, and will definitely stay again. I highly recommend the Inn at Sweet Water Farm.

The owners should be more forthcoming. Although the accommodations were extremely clean, the layout left a lot to be desired. As you enter the fist level, you encounter a vast, empty space that appears to be used for events, as evidenced a large folding table against one of the walls, and the patio lighting on the ceiling. The ONLY bathroom is also on this level. (Although nightlights are strategically placed, bathroom use in the middle of the night is at your own peril.) The extremely small shower would be a major challenge for anyone with claustrophobic issues. No vanity, just a sink. A small makeshift kitchen area with a small bar counter and a couple of stools sit right outside the bathroom. The "extremely narrow" spiral staircase leads upstairs to a sitting area and the bed. Although there is a safety disclaimer about mobility issues, children, and pets, the staircase is clearly NOT suitable for anyone of a robust nature. Although there was a TV, it was disconnected and on the floor. We had to move the desk and place the TV on it in order to see it. Oh, and no closets, just wardrobe racks. Fortunately, my husband and I are both agile seniors and our stay was only one night. For a longer stay, we assume the main house would be the way to go. The Barn Loft is better suited for youngsters who don't know any better or for private events.

From 3pm to 7pm snacks and La Colombe coffee beverages of all types are available with chocolates, cookies, dried fruits or nuts and candies. Coffee and biscotti are available from 7:30am till 10am in the morning. The staff is composed of four lovely women whose names all begin with the letter A. There are also s'more kits supplied to be made in multiple fire-pits at your leisure by the creek. Recommendations from dining, shopping, hikes or some great live music are given by this great staff. If you are looking for a relaxing stay at extremely reasonable rates that are less than two hours from New York City The Woodstock Way Hotel is the perfect choice.
