It is so pretty in the summer when it is adorned with flowers that you just can't help but want to stop off there as you're passing through :-) Inside it is rather more modern than you might expect and quite smart for a pub. There is a bar area, and a room off to the side with leather chairs and sofas and a TV. At the other end of the pub there is an extensive dining area and the pub does seem heavily geared towards dining. We had just popped in for a beer and there was Black Sheep and Old Speckled Hen on both of which were very pleasant. The staff were welcoming and friendly and we spent a relaxing and very enjoyable hour there.

They stock a complete array of local ales and if you look on the ceiling you will find all the different locally brewed brands they have had. The food is great, never had a meal we could complain about, lovely baked goats cheese starter, seafood broth, and of course, all locally caught. Recommended with a great and very brisk walk along the sands with views of Dunstanburgh castle. Fantastic photo opportunities abound here. In fact I hate to give this little place away, but don't worry you don't stand a chance of getting booked in anywhere around here, everyone else has discovered it well before we did.

I have not tried a Sunday lunch yet but have been midweek when the food was lovely, generous portions! I thought the cost of the main meals were very good and were what I expect from a local pub. Talking to the lady behind the bar she informed us that they have just added some B&B accommodation, this will come in handy for relatives visiting us from Yorkshire, a bit different from the usual premier inn. The pub itself has a very nice lounge, very relaxing with fireplace. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant and this has a warm atmosphere. There is a separate bar area which also has a nice feel to it. I will come back here again, and although I do not live in Ellington, i wish this was my local! Plenty of parking outside the pub. It is a hotel and the reception is inside the pub so it is open all day which is unusual for many of the village pubs in this area. They serve food from noon till 3pm and 6pm till 9pm but we didn't dine so I can't comment on the quality of the food. There were three or four local beers on including Secret Kingdom and Coast to Coast from Hadrian's Border Brewery as well as the usual lagers etc. There is a pool table, and we enjoy a game, but on each occasion that we were in it was totally monopolised by the landlord and staff. I'm sure we could have put our 50p on the table but I don't think we'd have been too popular! :-) The pub is dog friendly and has a beer garden to the rear which would be a nice place to while away an hour on a sunny day. Reasonable little pub really, I'd have given it four stars if we'd been able to play pool! :-)

The Alnwick IPA is a smashing pint, so much so we'll be making sure we visit again for another one before we return home later this week. I spotted a separate dining room to the rear of the pub and a glance at the specials board revealed some locally inspired choices including Craster kipper cake and also scallops. Open all day from noon with food served noon till 3pm and 6pm till 8.30pm when we visited in October. Pleasant enough pub really, I kind of wish you could give half stars really though as 3.5 stars feels right for here.
