Rang up before hand as my mother needs to use a wheel chair wanted to make sure of access. Told to pop in when we arrived and they would open a fire exit to help access to the dining room. Duly arrived, very friendly staff let us in and we had a table very close to the entrance which meant we were not having to manoeuvre around the tables. Choice of two menus, Sunday lunch, 3 course for £16.95 or A la Carte. We went for the Sunday lunch option. Ham Hock salad starter, Roast pork with trimmings and a very tasty and light baileys cheese cake. all in all a nice meal, pork a little dry but couple with excellent and attentive service would go back.

Staff are so friendly although a little slow (they were also dealing with several other big groups of diners as well). Food is delicious - massive portions at reasonable prices. They have just moved over to their winter menu so there was lots of yummy hearty food to choose from including pheasant, venison stew, game pie and rabbit. They also have a good wine selection with varying prices and good local beer choices. I can recommend the venison stew which comes with yummy dumplings and sweet potato mash. They also bring well cooked, buttery veg to the table for everyone to share. To start I recommend the meat plank to share with someone; pigs in blankets, pork pie, scotch eggs with homemade piccalilli and homemade brown sauce. If no one wants to share I'd recommend the scotch egg (or a plank to yourself!). Can't wait to go back when I next visit my friends.

Lovely friendly atmosphere, we got a warm welcome when we arrived. They do a good range of food served Mon-Sat 12pm -8pm and Sunday Lunch 12pm - 3pm. I have not tried a Sunday lunch yet but have been midweek when the food was lovely, generous portions! I thought the cost of the main meals were very good and were what I expect from a local pub. Talking to the lady behind the bar she informed us that they have just added some B&B accommodation, this will come in handy for relatives visiting us from Yorkshire, a bit different from the usual premier inn. The pub itself has a very nice lounge, very relaxing with fireplace. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant and this has a warm atmosphere. There is a separate bar area which also has a nice feel to it. I will come back here again, and although I do not live in Ellington, i wish this was my local! Plenty of parking outside the pub. There is a bar area, and a room off to the side with leather chairs and sofas and a TV. At the other end of the pub there is an extensive dining area and the pub does seem heavily geared towards dining. We had just popped in for a beer and there was Black Sheep and Old Speckled Hen on both of which were very pleasant. The staff were welcoming and friendly and we spent a relaxing and very enjoyable hour there.

The pub itself seems to have various events on nearly every night of the week for the locals, they are doing a fabulous job!
