This it the place you want to stay at particularly if you are looking for a quiet restful retreat. The dining room was closed for evening meals due to Covid. I erred and chose to go to Whycomough to eat. It was a drive and just about every eating establishment was closed. We would have fared better heading to Inverness. The breakfast in the morning was so very good. Fresh local fruit, the best coffee and homemade whole wheat pancakes with real maple syrup and butter. Quiet! The home is deep in from the road so there is absolutely no traffic. The walls between the rooms and floor are completely soundproof. Our hostess advised us that if we needed them in the evening we would have to phone. Their room was directly below us but there just is no noise transmission. If you are taking the ferry to Newfoundland I suggest you consider this place.

This room has a bath tub as well as a separate shower, and the room smells pleasantly like a faint touch of pine from the wood panels on the walls. Our hosts were quiet but friendly, not a chatty bunch like some B&Bs where we have stayed. Down by the water is a great strandkorb, imported from Germany, where you and your partner can sit with a beer or glass of wine and look at the water to relaaaax. There is no swimming in the water (too rocky), but it's still lovely to explore and take photos, watch the wildlife, and breath the fresh air. The only downside to the stay was that you had to pay an extra charge for breakfast. Granted, the breakfast was delightful, but it pushed our stay into a slightly more expensive zone than we had wanted.

The other guests we met were great. We appreciated the fridge space for our stuff, and being able to make and eat our supper in the house, which others were also doing. Perfect for visiting the area and great value. It was nice not having rooms stuffed with bric a brac or so many decorations there are no free surfaces to put your stuff. Owner was returned our call promptly and answered questions and was there to greet us on arrival, although that was not necessary. The place is self explanatory.

My travelling companion has ben to a few, and she was keen to show me how a B&B outperformed a motel, especially like the one we had stayed in the night before in Baddeck, Cape Breton. This is a no-frills B&B. As in, I made a reservation on the phone, and got the room number. When we arrived, there was a table with registration cards to fill out. No owner in sight. We actually mistook another guest for the owner, as she was the only person around! There was a sheet of paper with the needed instructions, the wifi password, and the owners cell number. So he seemed reachable if needed. We found our room, mostly thanks to the numbers being on the keys we found on the dresser in the room. The keys had little lights attached to them, which was a nice touch. We used them coming back from the beach that night, after dark. We went out for dinner, and must've missed the owner at that time. We chatted to another few guests in the common room that night, and discovered that breakfast was not served at any particular time, as it was a cereal and milk affair that could b found in the fridge. Tea and fruit were in a bowl, and on the counter nearby. The good is that the beds were comfortable and clean, the water was hot, and the towels were pristine. Looks like renovations occurred in our bathroom, the tiles were lovely. The B&B is also very close to the beach with a nice boardwalk, and also very close to a golf course. The next morning, we departed after helping ourselves to the cereal and tea, never having seen the owner. This B&B is a good place if you are looking for basic accommodation with no frills, and hot breakfast isn't a big deal to you. The price was comparable to an old motel we had stayed at the night before in the area, tho the decor here was much better! The owner was cheerful on the phone, and other guest reported seeing him, so perhaps we were just unlucky. No other guests reported any hot breakfast, however.

Situated in between New Glasgow and Antigonish NS. Very easy to find, you can see their red roof from a distance as you approach it! We traveled with our 4 year old son, the inn is perfect for families. They have 3 very personable dogs, a pack of alpaca's, a coop full of chickens, and a donkey named Danny. Beautiful property that has access to the beach, what a coast line! Stunning sunset views over the water, and the star gazing at night was beyond great. A very short ride down the road brings you to Arisaig Provincial Park, where you can walk along the beach and see fossils. We stopped as we were leaving Nova Scotia, Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail on our way back to the states. A good stopping off point for a similar road trip. Also close to Pictou and the PEI ferry. The innkeepers Josie and Jim are wonderful people with a gem of a home. Cannot recommend their hospitality enough!

Upon entering the door my heart must have sank looking at the old house. I though this is going to be a long night. The welcome was warm and friendly and John was funny. Which was a relief. He showed us the bedroom which seemed older. But as we settled we came to grips that this must be a century home. The hardwood floors, the ceiling, the crown moulding, the railings outside, the bathroom. It can be a museum. The bed was OK, but the room had character. Overlooking the river and some side small rooms also rented by the same folks. Please refer to the pictures to believe it. The living room (parlour then) was amazing. They have pictures of the original owners. The house built more than 130 years ago!! We also told the host that we were vegetarian no eggs and a vegan. The host still made amazing breakfast for us. My family stayed in a unit in the house so I can only speak for it, but it was so adorable! The floors were a little creaky and I don't think soundproofing was fantastic, but the furnishings were old-school and very cute. The slanted ceiling, old wooden wardrobe, pictures and quilts, lacy curtains, and the washroom (with a shower and a separate old-style bathtub) had an adorable antique vibe. The size of the room was standard, but the washroom was quite roomy. I personally loved it! I believe it was a heritage house. It also had an amazing view of the harbour. Unfortunately we got in late and it faced west so we couldn't see sunrise, but I imagine sunset would've been spectacular! We also had breakfast there. If you're looking for fast grab-and-go this probably isn't the place (although I'm sure you can make arrangements), since there was just a couple as staff. However, the service was great and they were super attentive. The food was home-style and made on the spot to order, and coffee is freshly ground coffee beans pressed. It was a relaxing meal overlooking the beautiful view of the water. Would recommend a stay here :)

A Warm Welcome to Baddeck - We'll Be Back!…read more After six mornings of B&B/hotel breakfasts on our Nova Scotia stay, we were happy to choose a self-catering option in Baddeck, giving us the flexibility to eat on our own schedule and grab a bite to eat in the town. Willie's The Worn Doorstep was just what we wanted, and then more. Our suite was more of an apartment with the choice of two queen beds, a fairly large living room area with a kitchenette and verandah. Our room faced away from the street, and it was quiet with no traffic noise.The suite was clean, bright, nicely furnished, with comfortable beds, and a short stroll into town, making it an easy recommendation for others. We also sat upstairs on the roof deck, to enjoy the July weather and the views. But what made The Worn Doorstep an extra special stay for us was the kindness and hospitality of Willie and Gina. We were given a warm Scottish welcome (genuine - Willie is a Glaswegian, transplanted to Canada many years ago). Willie was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Baddeck, gave lots of advice when we asked for local information, and shared many entertaining and interesting stories. Will return for more!

Because of tire issues, we arrived very late - after 8 p.m. Lyne stayed and greeted us on arrival. She was pleasant, accommodating, and recommended a place that would be open for dinner late (places are not open very late). The room was beautiful and nicely appointed. It was a pretty small room, but it made good use of space. It was very clean. The bed was very comfortable with nice, soft linens. There was also good temperature control and the room was quiet. The room also had a nice balcony that would be nice to view sunsets. There was plenty of parking and the access in the back made it real easy to unload/load the car. You order breakfast when you check-in. The breakfast was pretty good and very filling which was good as we headed out on the Cabot Trail. Very nice B&B.

Cape Breton is absolutely beautiful in the fall with all of the deciduous trees changing colour! This B&B was absolutely what we were looking for in a weekend away. The rooms have all been uniquely decorated and are named to match their motif: The conservatory room, Rose cottage, the African room and the Russian room. The later was the room we chose and it was a-mazing! This was my first experience with a king size bed and I was in heaven. A family of four could sleep quite comfortably in a bed that size, just sayin'. The Russian room also overlooks a lake in the backyard and has a massive tub complete with jets! (woooo ahhhh...) My affinity for lime green and purple was happily met in the massive headboard and general design of this room as well. I recall the breakfast we had the next morning being delicious also. Definitely avail yourself of this B&B if you head up to do the Cabot Trail this fall! With such a mild autumn so far, you're bound to still catch some of the natural beauty of the trees changing colour. Our B&B proprietors had a wealth of information on the walks and hikes in their area as well. Be forewarned: There is a tiny little $5 ferry barge that you have to get on in order to start the Cabot Trail. We weren't told about this and as a result drove around for an hour trying to find another road... there is no other road. Get on the ferry.
