I love Iowa Quilt Block! The owner, Shelley, and all staff are kind and knowledgeable. I purchased several machines from the Iowa Quilt Block. The staff provided expert education to assist me in the understanding and use of my machines. I also attended many great classes there in sewing and in embroidery. I recently became certified in the use of longarm and can go into the shop and longarm my own quilts at a reasonable cost!! My favorite quilt shop at a nice, central metro area location! They have a nice selection of fabric, patterns, and notions for quilting and embroidery. I purchased my Bernina embroidery machine from them and they constantly have classes offered to help newbies and the more experienced get the most out of their machine. They have serviced and updated my machine a couple of times and I'll never have it done anywhere else! read more

The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The fabrics are of very good quality and the prices are comparable to other quilt/fabric stores. In the DesMoines area this is by far my favorite place to shop for fabric. read more

This place is the epitome of quilt/fabric store for me. I've been coming here since I was a lil baby thanks to my mom, the quilter. It's small and lacks the inventory of a place like Jo Ann or Hancock Fabrics, but the staff really is great and always has been. They do a lot of parties and workshops also. Have purchased several sewing machines here. The owner has always been very nice and helpful. They now a service man there that fixes machines like no other. He is very precise and persistent. He doesn't quit until your machine runs perfect. Now that is great customer service!!! And very hard to find these days. read more

I just went in and no one greeted me, asked if I needed help or even welcomed me into the store. They could have said that they were busy and said they would be with me in a moment. I lingered looking at machine for a few minutes, long enough that any salesman worth their salt would have pounced! I mean,they sell Berninas and I'm in the market to buy soon. Just doing research. Will look elsewhere. read more

I just upgraded my machine at the Iowa Quilt Block. The staff was friendly and helpful. There's a real family atmosphere. Some of the old reviews here need to be disregarded as there is a new owner that's been there a little over a year I believe. The old reviews that refer to rude/lazy and unhelpful staff doesn't apply to the new owners group in my opinion. Give them another try! read more

I have taken machines in there to get serviced MULTIPLE times, and have never been impressed. First of all, if they quote you a week-add four weeks on to that, because thats how fast they get things done. Second, the times that I have called for a progress report they have lied to me and told me that they will get it done within the day-also the customer service is lacking with how they approach their customers. I work for a business that relies on our machines (which they are aware of) and it really puts us out a lot when they hold onto our machines for so long! If you can I would take your machines to get serviced elsewhere, the only reason I have to take ours there is because we lose a warranty when someone else services them! read more
