I seek out quilt stores for my wife any time we make a road trip and this store was the first of five, on a recent trip to southern Minnesota. (We live near Columbia, MO.) To the best of my knowledge, the wife found their prices to be competitive and we left with an armful of "stuff." You can become certified to use their longarm machine and machine quilt your own quilts. But, best of all, is the customer service. Each employee is truly knowledgeable and takes the time to ensure you are truly satisfied. There is a lovely assortment of high quality cottons in many colors and themes. What I especially love is that sometime quilt shops stick with very traditional fabrics. The Red Hen has a terrific assortment of traditional, modern, patriotic, etc. I fell in love with some bold, vibrant paisley fabric and already have plans for it. The prices are exceptional. There is nothing priced over $10.00 per yard.

Overall, I've brought in dozen of items - once they took about a dozen Wicker boxes and bags and some other items - and six months later I got $20. Recently I brought in brand new and greatly taken care of yard tools. Some of the limb and tree trimmers were even in the box. They're probably $50-$100 new. The next week when I stopped in and noticed they were all gone. I asked for my payout. It was $50. Should have done Facebook market. Either they were pricing in these items obscenely low (although when I look to ship the prices or normal and even high) or fill in the blank yourself. The next week, I took in 2 boxes and a suitcase o clothes... the lady wasn't working and the man took the entire thing, including $100 suitcase that I brought only for transportation, but they said he would take it. I stopped in a week later, and the lady is still not there. The man tells me those weren't the type of clothes they were looking for and they donated that them all to Goodwill but could not provide me the receipt of donation. I could've probably sold it overtime on Poshmark for hundreds of dollars. These people are the worst.

We attended her fajita class on Cinco de Mayo and learned how to make pineapple and aleppo pepper sorbet, marinated steak/chicken/veggies, flour tortillas and guacamole. The food was outstanding, Deb was a thorough teacher and the crowd was lovely (and encouraged to interact). Even if you live in downtown Des Moines, it's worth the drive! Deb, a former restaurant professional, says veggie-based dishes are her specialty, so we're looking forward to attending again for one of her salad or spiralized vegetable classes. Plan for about 2 or 2 1/2 hours per event.
