This shop has a fairy niche market. And by fairy niche, I mean incredibly niche. It's not everyday one finds oneself thinking "I really want something Irish".
Whilst it one held prime real estate on the top level of the Queen Victoria Building, the Irish Shop has relocated to Parramatta Rd, Stanmore - a location which would involve a 50% rent decrease (at least), but must also eliminate the potential to snag passers by.
But, when these guys do get customers, they provide extremely good customer service. And they are guaranteed to get my business year after year, as they are the only place in Australia (that I'm aware of) to stock my Mum's favourite perfume (Connemara). Last year, their stock was running low and whilst they did have the perfume, the gift box had suffered a minor sticky-tape related tear. Whilst I insisted this meant nothing to me and that it would probably suffer more tears in the journey from that shop to under the Christmas tree, the shopkeeper insisted that a gift should be pristine, and so to make up for it, he threw in their full tester bottle for free. "I hope this will be okay", he said apologetically.
This place sells Irish jewellery (a beautiful selection of Claddagh rings), books, cuff links, posters, linen, food, music, religious items, giftware (bookmarks, mugs, maps, I LOVE IRELAND car plates), family crests, art and St Pats paraphernalia. read more
